This video is a year old but I'll tell you what it's very informative and I appreciate you posting it making my job so much easier keep posting good content man thanks
I have powerstop on my 2008 Dually and my wife's 2012 Ram 4x4 and I used the carbon Fiber Ceramic . On my truck I used Detroit Axle rotors drilled and slotted on my wifes I used the PowerStop drilled and slotted and red calipers all 4 wheels . They are amazing you will like the stopping power . You always make good choices. Also the Dakota is just crazy !!!
I changed my brakes for the first time after watching your videos. I’m in ma and I had to beat the snot out of my rotors to get them off lol. Must be nice to live in ca lol. Thanks for posting this video.
Easy way is to press on the brake pedal with the rotor loose (no nuts holding) before you undo the caliper bolts. It will break the bond between the hub and the rotors and make it easier to remove.
You had the wheels off, best time to clean the whole wheel so you had a clean slate to tell the difference if they still got dusty or not. I will be doing my brakes shortly so nice refresher course..
Awesome video, thanks for the refresher. Like what you did to paint the discs before install to avoid that aweful rust. I was chuckling while watching the rotor come off lol, first time I've seen a dodge disc come off without a sledge hammer :)
Your rear brake video was very informative. Youve done a great job explaining the process. Never thought to use that slot to compress the pistons. Growing up dad showed me to use a C clamp to push them back in. Jeez what a lot of hassle. Well i guess its never too late to learn something new. Only took 40 yrs. Hahahaaha
Never put any, always made sure they were toyt as a toyger , never had one back out or come loose. The small caliper bolts on the other hand, they need some blue locktite as I've had them come loose and actually lost one once. You can't tighten those too much, they will strip.
I know this is anold post and I hope you will replay, But i was wondering if you still recommend those pads and rotors? I have never changed these before but your video makes it easier ty.
I like the idea of painting the rotor hub to prevent rust. Especially living in the North. Do you paint the inside of the hub also, or just the exterior?
Found it funny you mention using the recommended grease/lubricant is somewhat of a controversy. Noticed you didn't use any, LOL everyone has their little quirks. Seen ya use a pry bar/screwdriver to retract the calipers, never seen that before, always used a C-clamp but your way works in that scenario. Definitely can cut/turn those rotors, they look exactly like yours....
thanks much.. i just needed to know if there was some kind of dealer reset procedure needed after changing pads, of if the removal of the discs is as needlessly tough as is is on my last pickup, a 2008 gmc canyon,in which you have to remove the spindle and the 4x4 axle nut to remove the spindle to get the spindle off , because the discs are bolted to the REAR of the spindles... i am on vacation on the east shore and my ram only has 17k miles on it. but on the way here, i noticed my brakes pulling to one side, and i looked thru my mag wheel spokes and my rotor is gouged, so i need to put brakes & rotors on the front.. thank goodness i carry a complete set of sockets and wrenches... looks like i just need a 21 mm socket to get the caliper bracket off to change the rotors.... i may just throw a cheap set of new pads on just to get home and replace the pads and rotors with premium ceramic ones when i get home.. i like the tip about painting the rotors.. thanks
I’m a little confused about retracting the piston. It looks simple but I didn’t get a good look at exactly what you did there. Are you pushing it down or pulling it in a direction?
He's prying on the inner portion of the old brake pads backing plate, as to not nick the pistons. That's just to get enough room to pop the caliper off to get the pads. You still need to fully retract them with an old pad and a piston retracting tool before reinstalling the caliper
Question I have a 2017 rebel and it has the air ride and it I adjust it’s self, is there something or a settings were I could turn off. If anyone could help me out, I tried looking for a video of a brake job
Great video!! I just started experiencing a soft pedel with my sport. Only has 120,000 km for a 2014 but a lot of loaded driving. Do recommend doing front and rear at the sae time or can I get away with just the front for now? Thanks again for all your hard work and vidoes Bro! Fan from Edmonton, Alberta.
HI, I know it's only been a few months since you replaced the brakes. I have a 2019 RAM 1500 2wd Big Horn Classic and it has 43k on it and the brake dust is out of control. Would you recommend replacing them right now? Thanks, Phil
You pull it out and clean the pin and caliper guide, all the old grease and rust if any. Use new grease and make sure the rubber boots have no tears in them allowing water in. They sell replacement pins if yours is rusted beyond use. To clean the hole, you can use a drill bit the same size and do it nice and slow not to remove any metal.
Hey just so you know you’re supposed to cracked a bleeder when you push the pistons back in so you don’t push old fluid back through the ABS control module.
It's a good thing to do, but not a must do if your vehicle is fairly new. If you have rusted brake lines, or older car, then it would be the smart thing to do.
No, you just open the bleeder as you’re pushing the piston back in so the fluid goes out the bleeder not back through the ABS control module. But you could change the fluid at the same time if you really wanted to.
Couldn’t get my rotor off no matter what I did so I decided just to change the pads. Then couldn’t get the caliper back on after the new pads were in. WTH
SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST EVIDENTLY,I WOULDA HAD THAT DAKOTA RUNNING VERY FIRST AS PEOPLE WAIT,AN WAIT,AN WOULDA MADE A SHORT VIDEO...BUT, CARRY ON...................

So dang simple it’s crazy how much shops charge for a break change I’m in the wrong business 😂😂😂
I think they get paid for coffee breaks too LOL
@@arnoldsaunders5748 😂😂😂😂 smoke breaks too
They charge more when you have a Kit Kat rather than a break.
Thank you for the added content to the RAM library.

Thank you so much going to be doing this in the next week to my truck
Hell yeah 💪
Always good to get a refresh as it isn’t an every day thing to change break hardware
Thx
I like the Akebono ceramic pads I put on my Magnum.
Awesome video, thanks for the refresher.

Keep it going, my dude. Your vids are fire!!!
Thanks victor!
Awesome video, very descriptive and quick. 🙌🏾🙏🏾
Thanks for the vid. Just did my truck, which was my first time doing breaks. Very helpful and informative. Thanks again
Always looks so nice with new hardware
I’m so glad I found your channel.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge bro
well done, your videos are the best i've seen on the subjects you cover
Glad you like them! 💪

This video helped me alot, thanks.
Thanks John. The caliper bracket mounting bolts require locktite on our Ram's. And have a hefty torque spec. Food good reason I guess.

You made that look super easy.
😏👌🏽 now this is what I call a quick brake
I like the idea of painting the rotor hub to prevent rust. Especially living in the North. Do you paint the inside of the hub also, or just the exterior?
What kind of paint did you use?
I was today years old when I learned to pry the old brake pad in to compress the piston verses using that cheap parts store tool.
Nobody cuts/turns rotors anymore. It isn't worth the time to do it as the price of new ones is cheaper than what a shop will charge to do it.
I saw a video where the guy took the top off the brake fluid reservoir but you didn't.
Is removing the brake fluid reservoir required?
Than you for this video 💪
Thank you for what you do man
Excellent video!! Thank you!!
You are welcome!
thanks much..

Well done young man, thankyou!
Do you have to undo the cap on the break reservoir before you start?
Any idea if the 378mm rotors and calipers off the Laramie fit the Express?
It does help to open brake filler reservoir under hood to allow pressure to escape from squeezing caliper.
Agreed.
Very informative video..good job bro 😎👍
Should of painted the calipers while you had them off 🤘🤘
I always look forward to your videos, even if it's just a short video on changing brake pads.
Get the old rotors turned and use for spares.
I'm changing mine soon, I'm from nova scotiA, and have a 2019 classic, mine will prob, not slide off that easy ahah, we have salt here
Hey what’s up
Did you know you can go on your stereo menu and select brake service so you don’t damage your pistons it relieves the pressure I believe
On a 2019 and 2021
I do in on my Sony Walkman...🤣
No lubricant on the back of the brake pads?
I thought you would have went with EBC brakes but these are a great choice as well
What kind of paint did you use for the center of the rotors?
Awesome vids man
Thanks Justin!
Awesome vid buddy

Thank you for the video I forgot how to put the pad hardware on and you nailed it I hit a oh shit moment and thanks for your help
Love the ram content
So you don't really need a C-clamp to chsnge brakes?
Do you open the brake reservoir cap when you pump the brakes? Or you dont have to?
You should, it relieves pressure and makes prying open the pistons easier
Question I have a 2017 rebel and it has the air ride and it I adjust it’s self, is there something or a settings were I could turn off. If anyone could help me out, I tried looking for a video of a brake job

Piece of cake 👌

Yeah I would definitely switch to the power stop pads I linked! There is minimal brake dust now! 💪
@@BoostedMotorsports cool thanks
What year? My ram is a 2019.
Wow, you must be using a new camera or go pro? Looks like 4K quality!!!
I thought Powerstop had a coating on the rotors so they don't rust, not to sure. I've had my drilled and slotted on for 4 years haven't seen any rust.
Thanks for making it simple. Do you think the rotor and pad set up, that you chose, would be good for a 2500 for off-road? Thanks.
What should I do if one of the slide pins doesn’t move at all it does not move as freely as the top.
God dam . Saved my asssss
You forgot to mention to remove the cover on the brake fluid master cylinder first!
Hey just so you know you’re supposed to cracked a bleeder when you push the pistons back in so you don’t push old fluid back through the ABS control module.
It's a good thing to do, but not a must do if your vehicle is fairly new. If you have rusted brake lines, or older car, then it would be the smart thing to do.
what do you mean crack the bleeder? do you want to drain the old fluid first? im about to do mine, its a 2011
No, you just open the bleeder as you’re pushing the piston back in so the fluid goes out the bleeder not back through the ABS control module. But you could change the fluid at the same time if you really wanted to.
What year is the truck in this video
4th gen Ram, 2010-2018 including the Classic line 2019-on
Put grease on the ears of the pads before and after installing clips.
Wheres all the rust??? Salty winter roads in Ontario Canada makes every bolt a nightmare to undo.
Spray you vehicles with Crown or Rust check and you won't have these problems.
Should've painted that caliper
Couldn’t get my rotor off no matter what I did so I decided just to change the pads. Then couldn’t get the caliper back on after the new pads were in. WTH
Hellcat swap Honda Civic?
Shocked that you didn't paint the calipers 😉
Haha soon! Got too many things to do currently 😂
Must be nice to work on cars with no rust. That dosnt happen in ny
SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST EVIDENTLY,I WOULDA HAD THAT DAKOTA RUNNING VERY FIRST AS PEOPLE WAIT,AN WAIT,AN WOULDA MADE A SHORT VIDEO...BUT, CARRY ON...................
Did you lift with the lower control arms?
Probably should’ve checked your hub @ the same time, no ?
That one spray...... "Alright.....
Man should've got ya some slotted and drilled rotors for front and back.
They don't do much beyond looking cool and maybe wearing pads out faster. Not on a road driven truck anyway.
You left out removing the caliper. Mine is loose but won't come out. 🤷♂
Also you left out getting the lock washer off the stud.
That Is a wear sensor. Not an absolute sensor.
ABS
he make it look so easy, but I bet is not.
Thanks… I came here to see how those clips went on and you disappointed
