    This is reminding me of our trip to Greece. We had the most delicious, wholesome food while there. Simple ingredients but the best quality cooked expertly. I will try a couple of these recipes this week. I had the best roast chicken with potatoes of my life in Nafplion and the best moussaka in Hydra. I still dream about the food. I want to visit Crete next time we go to Greece.

    Thanks! I wanted to eat keto, but I can't afford it. Now Thomas de Lauer his channel is advocating Mediterranean, but he didn't mention what to eat.
    So I came here via him. 😊

    So special 🥰 Thank you for sharing!
    Just read an article in The Guardian about how many of the olive trees in the Mediterranean are suffering due to the climate & eco crisis. Just think of the ramifications 🧐😔
    My family & I are eating goat more often. Have you come across any goat recipes on your sojourns?
    My mum (who is sadly no longer with us) often cooked my siblings & me delectable, tender lamb brains for breakfast. I’ve yet to do the same for my family - perhaps it’s time to give it a try.

    • @Mediterraneanliving
      @Mediterraneanliving  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't cook goat often so really don't have any good recipes. I would check out Diane Kochilas' site, I bet she has some.

      Thank you for introducing me to Diane Kochilas! I’ve found one goat recipe - Lemony Braised Goat w/ blackened garlic & white wine 😋 Also, she has some lovely lamb recipes which could easily be interchanged with goat. 🪷

    In the Mediterranean Diet, do people living on Crete and Ikaria use white rice, white pasta and white bread, or do they use whole grains? I once made whole wheat bread (spelt) but it was very bitter. Nutritionists say whole grains are good, others say white.

    • @Mediterraneanliving
      @Mediterraneanliving  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is a great question. Generally, they eat semolina pasta which has a lower glycemic index than something like bread and their bread tends to be white, but still a heartier grain is used. They also tend to eat sourdough bread.

    • @ironjohn
      @ironjohn 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Mediterraneanliving Is spelled bread, which is 70% wholemeal spelled flour and 30% white flour, suitable?

  • @ironjohn

    Is it possible to eat margarine, butter and cold meats in this diet or is it not customary to eat such things there?
    Also, in what quantity can you eat these?

    • @Mediterraneanliving
      @Mediterraneanliving  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      So, margarine is not eaten anywhere in the Mediterranean and I try to stay away from it as well. Butter is eaten in different quantities in different regions of the Mediterranean. Olive oil is almost the main source of fat though. Cold meats are eaten especially in Spain, France and Italy, but they are usually in another dish and always served with lots of vegetables
