I was a snobby 11 year old diesel fan in 1981 and I was only interested in Deltics, until I went to Dobwalls and I had to admit it was ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.

Don and I first heard about this when a few years ago I got the HST Far West video from Video 125. We instantly loved it. We looked it up and found it was closed already. We were really disapointed.

I loved that place and will always have a special place in my heart. My mum used to live in Dobwalls in the early 80s and worked at the railway alternating between the art gallery and selling ice creams. Depending when in 1986 this was filmed, I might not have even been born as I was born in July '86!! Those steam whistles were the soundtrack to my childhood as I spent many a day at the railway!!

Thanks very much for your message.
Unfortunately I don't remember the exact date, but we think it was probably a summer Bank Holiday.
We had a Cornetto, but your Mum may have been a bit too busy to have served us that day! It was a great day out - also including a trip to Keith Fordyce's Torbay Aircraft Museum, and a slate cavern and waterfall! A busy day out from our home in North Devon. The locomotives and intertwined layouts were truly magnificent
I was so sad when it was dismantled and everything sold.
      Best wishes, Peter T

i thought that it was some very nice footage of the now closed Dobwalls railway, me and my brother Tim spent some happy summers there back when we was little boys as we used to live not far from it in Cornwall.

Thanks very much. Very pleased to hear you liked it - despite the pretty poor quality from early VHS!

@@petertucker7952 our Mum would ask the drivers of the steam engines if we could sit in the tender so she could take our photo after we had a ride on the train. they was always very kind and polite when she asked them and did not mind us doing that so long as we did not touch anything that was hot

I remember this magnificent miniature railway well. I have recently found some photos I took when I visited with my family in 1983. Lovely to watch your video. Thank you. Hugh F

Hi Hugh, thanks very much for your comment - much appreciated.
Sorry about the poor quality: very early VHS recorder; very heavy, and the batteries didn't last long. The locos and layout were spectacular. Such a shame the railway was dismantled, and sold off.
      Thanks agaim. Cheers. Peter T
