  • This year my pantry challenge video looks a little different. I go through a bunch of ways I (and you) can use up the things in your pantry and freezer.

Experation dates on white rice are fictional. It does not contain fats (as brown rice does), so it doesnt go rancid, contains almost no vitamins that could deteriate, the minerals stay stable, and there is no bacterial growth when stored dry. You can eat it years later and there isn´t even a change in taste or texture. The most important thing about rice is, once it is cooked, the leftovers schould be stored in the fridge (max of two days) or freezer as soon as possible. Starches like rice and pasta have bacterias on the surface that survive cooking temperatures and once they are moist they start to multiply and can cause food poisoning. 😊

I was so glad to see this "challenge" video where you use groceries that you already had. Most challengers, whose videos I've seen, have gone to a grocery store in December and made a huge haul to last them for two months. Other challengers have canned a hundred jars of food. I don't see how those can be considered challenges when they were planned ahead of time.

Rice an wheat and dry beans will stay longer if store in the right buckets. If you live in a basement just watch for mice if you don't have food in buckets they love cereal noodles an anything they can get hold of.

Zucchini and pumpkin muffins and cookies are also a good way to use them up and use them for meals instead of just snacks.

Could use the jam mixed in as a salad dressing flavoring

I am doing the pantry challenge too! My 2nd year filming for my channel but have been doing for several years. I think I am going thru March with mine, I have soooo much home canned that I need to get thru before next gardening season. Great video 💜

@@leahirvine3522 I do give them as gifts as many as I can! Most people want my Herbs, Seasoning Blends and My Flavored butters. Other than my mom the canned stuff stays in my home

Do you have any ideas on what I can do with canned ravioli? My kids used to love them and now they don’t like them as much but I really don’t want to waste them

I think baking them in a casserole dish with some fresh cheese and maybe breadcrumbs on top might make them taste good! I found this recipe for a bake too. 😊www.sizzlingeats.com/chef-boyardee-cheesy-ravioli-bake/
