I'm doing a pantry challenge too! I got a super great ham deal during the holiday season. I have made it a point to add ham to my menu once a week to put it to good use. Tonight was crockpot Ham Potato Cheddar soup with Kale since I am also trying to get through my potatoes as well.
Great use for that!! I don't like how I feel when I eat ham so it's hard to put it in the meal plan for more than a special holiday. But soup is a GREAT IDEA. I used the ham bone for bean soup during our snow week here recently!
@@DosieDough a ham bone is perfect for bean soup! If you have sensitivities to ham, I've seen recipes like Loaded baked potato soup with similar ingredients and no ham. Looks perfect for these rainy days!
Kale is soooooo good in soups, especially a creamy one or chunky veg/bean/tomato based stew.. Big bags of fresh greens are often available on a managers special so I buy and put in the freezer for soups or steamed. It's always a good find!
When we do a "pantry" challenge, rather, mostly a freezer challenge, I use what we have. I'm a widow and my son (lives in an attached apt) share the grocery budget and cooking because it saves money. Fortunately, just like his Dad, every single time I cook, he always thanks me, and always says "this looks good! " before he even taste it. He never, ever complains if we have chicken or pork in different dishes for 5 days, though I try not to do that. I made a creamy garbanzo soup that was good but not a repeat. Rather than tossing it, I portioned it, 1 c each, for the freezer. I've used it in cream of broccoli and even clam chowder and they both were delicious.
I was having such an issue with not rotating through food as I am just me. I bought an inexpensive FoodSaver rip off off of Amazon and it's saved me a bundle. A couple of your ground beef would be in better shape if you had one too and they aren't real expensive. Not judging just a suggestion of what helped me
I love a pantry challenge! When you have meat that your family doesn't like as much, like those sausages, can you cut them into small pieces and put them in chili or something similar? I've successfully done that a time or two but sometimes they're onto me. 😉
@@savvysaute6578 It might surprise some, but in your house you can do exactly as you choose when you do a pantry/freezer challenge, and when you don't. I wouldn't do the same as you, and you wouldn't do the same as me and neither one of us cares! 🙂 We eat mostly low carb but I like your channel. I can easily make a low carb substitution, if I want, or not. I'm going to start buying fresh cilantro ... why I didn't before I'll never know. How do you keep it fresh?
@@tamaraliscia3408 haha we all have our own preferences! I keep cilantro longer by putting in a mason jar or glass with water in the fridge (like a vase of flowers)
@@savvysaute6578 Thank you! Indeed we do have our own preferences. I post my opinions, which are not, "she should do/cook/buy X". Your house, your family=your choices, not mine. You're a savvy shopper and good cook and one of my favorites! I had an idea that may or may not be of interest ... I agree with your little that some mint ice cream products are "too spicy". Do you bake? If you melt those ice cream bars (use like milk or cream), mix with other ingredients, could you make chocolate mint brownies, cream pie or a sort of cheesecake?
I am looking forward to seeing the meals you create! I always enjoy your videos.
Thank you! ❤️❤️
You’ve got a lot of food. You’re very blessed ❤
Yes we are!!

I’m doing a pantry challenge too. I’m also doing WW at the same time. Super challenging! Love this video
Nutritional goals definitely up the challenge! Good luck!

lol they can catch on! I ended up donating these but maybe a gumbo would have worked well!
Also homemade cat an dog food
It's not cheating to buy meat on special like that - it's just smart!
Hah thanks!!
👍👍👍👏👏👏
Looks like you dont need to buy anything except milk, eggs, bread, cheese for month's
Maybe vegetables, too. She has enough meat for months but not much in the vegetable category.
@@tamaraliscia3408 absolutely! And we definitely don’t want to eat pork multiple times a week either.

I'm new to your Channel just a thought why not do a food swap with family and friends that way you will all have different variety
That is such a great idea!! Thank you for sharing! ❤️❤️❤️
She isn't a fan of frozen salmon, as is. However, it is really good in fish chowder...think clam chowder but with fish.
I have never thought of that! Thank you ❤️
Low spend challenge. No more than $10 / person / week for February. Food only. You game ?
$160 would be a BIG DEAL for my family but I'd love to get close!
@DosieDough with all you have already I have every confidence you could do it!
Hand me your pantry :)
