Great content as usual, and I'm completely at one with you in regard to the continued snubbing of Kubrick by the academy. There will be Oscar winning films that will be forgotten while his films will continue to be viewed and discussed. I'm possibly one of your very oldest subscribers, but I was fortunate enough to see 2001 on its original release in Cinerama, and seeing it completely fresh was an incredible experience, and even though Cinerama has gone, it still retains its power. We'd have to mention Hitchcock's lack of Oscars too, of course.
Regarding A Man for All Seasons, I too found it a little stodgy when I first saw it, but have since come to appreciate it more when you see people in power going along with whatever seems advantageous to their popular standing rather than taking principled stances. Paul Schofield gives a mesmerising performance.

Other than Rebecca winning the big BP and Psycho being nominated a few times yeah he really has never got much attention from the academy. Kubrick I guess makes more sense as his films are more arty and marmite but Hitchcock makes the exact kind of films that the Oscars usually dig so I don’t understand! I mean, no wins for Vertigo come on!!

Great video! I really like seeing your perspective on these movies and bringing up trivia about the different years. This also really pushed me to check out Sidney Poitier's work, something I've been meaning to do but haven't yet.

Thank you! Make sure to check out A Raisin In The Sun, it’s one of my favourites.

Just stumbled across your channel and I'm so grateful I did! I watched the whole Oscar series in a night and it has really helped get me out of a "movie funk." Really appreciate the way you thoughtfully examine the films, even when you dislike them. It makes your commentary so engaging, even when I feel very differently as with, say, "All About Eve." Eager to hear more but perfectly happy to wait. Thanks for the great work!

Stanley Kubrick was nominated for 13 Oscars. 5 for writing. 3 best pictures. 4 best directors. And he was the one who won that special effects Oscar for 2001, his only win.

There was also a tie for best actor way back in 1931! So it's happened twice. Basically no chance of it happening ever again now with so many voting members in the academy, but I guess there was a chance then. Also, you said 2001's nomination was the only nomination a Kubrick film would ever get- maybe you meant win? Thankfully there were more nominations!

Wow don’t know how I could’ve missed that I use the Oscar website for most of my information. Either way thanks for letting me know very interesting. Also yes I did mean win. CRIMINAL!

Come on mate three for three!! Loving these. This is my favourite of your three lists, if you just put midnight cowboy up a bit it’s be almost faultless, good stuff. I’ve seen Nuremberg (and absolutely loved it, not surprised by its BP nomination). The other two I’ll put on my list thanks.

For the man of all season, I think the way you view tge film could depend on context of politics where you live in. In my country, there are still similar things going on about people speaking against monarchy and get arrested and judge by corrupted court same as in the film. So even though I'm not buying the Christian and marriage stuffs in the movie, I still think the core about standing by your principal still resonates with many people in the current time.
