This is pretty sad, this comic kinda implies that the turtles couldn’t really die until they completed their destinies, which means that his brothers are dead because they completed theirs at young ages.
@@Christodophilus I think it's because he's MIkey. He could always depend on the others and just punch and kick. He was never the leader, never wanted to be the leader, wasn't the smartest. He NEEDS their guidance and does this by "asking" them what would they do. In order to ask them he has to keep them alive and accessible. I don't see Leo or Donatello doing this the way Mikey is. Maybe Ralph Also Mikey is the prefect turtle to show the effects PTSD has on a personality

Certainly a vehicle to raise awareness of PTSD. Maybe that's where they were always intending to go with this series, and why they promoted it as separate to the others? I've just seen them use physically mutilated (should have died) turtles before, and somehow they defy the odds to come back as a group. The thing that makes them special - the mutagen, is always their wildcard, played at the end. I would be legitimately surprised if that doesn't happen in this series - to bring the group back together again. Given they have set it up to BE a stand alone series though, I shouldn't be surprised if they break completely with the old formula. I'm dying to know how this series will end, which is a sign of good storytelling.
@@Christodophilus I don't at this point subscribe to the destiny thing (it may very well be a theme but I think at this point it is assumed and romanticized) I think he needs to think like the other turtles to accomplish his mission. Instead of just "thinking how they would think" he brings them with him so they can make suggestions to him. He doesn't want to learn form them ,which he did... he wants them apart of his team, apart of his life. Which is why he argues with them on missions and when alone. He is like Batman, he didn't process grief the right way and what fans see is something glorified when it should be a sign of a downward spiral.

Not gonna lie... growing up with TMNT, Last Ronin is pretty sad. It's the same feel I got with Old Man Logan. To see a world where the heroes are gone and the last ones are barely even a fraction of themselves.

It has been said that Mikey was always the most talented so we haven't completely lost him. It takes talent to take on the attributes of your three older brothers and be damn near as good or even better than they are at their own game.

Mikey in the last comic was basically trying to be raph. Full on assault. Strike first plan later style. We see raph die with that mindset in this comic. I think mikey is going to embody his brothers in some way throughout the series.
Lol no. This is how I see it. Leo was the leader of them and at one point actually joined shredder and eventually comes back but sees himself as a failure for it, because he let his brothers down. Donnie's head is always in some tech and strayed away from hard martial training a long time ago. Then Ralph, the hothead. Great martial artist, just doesn't think. Then leaves Mikey. Master Sprinter said himself Mikey had the most potential of the 4 brothers. Hence why he gave him the nunchucks, to have him concentrate, since it is one of the hardest martial arts weapons to master. And as brandon said above, Mikey would try just not put a whole lot of effort in since he was so easy going. Just had to take his family to die for him to become serious. Lol Mikey is the perfect balance though.
In the last issue, once the story is ended, it should end with a panel of him finally eating pizza, because he finally feels at peace, and it reminds him of the days of his youth with his family, with a smile, and a tear, it ends.

Then a close up of the chemical going down the sewer, dripping and getting in contact with 4 small turtles that just happened to pass by it, a rat not so far sees the chemical in the small turtles and goes to help them trying to clean them up, but as it tries to clean it, it's getting also exposed... And that's how daredevil and the ninja turtles are born
Factually speaking, you're right. I expected it too, but I didn't think he'd be the first. I thought it would Leonardo, then Raphael. Leonardo taking the role of a leader to make sure everyone is safe, then ultimately go down first. After which, Raphael, filled with rage, would take the fight to the foot's doorstep and then we get the same thing we get in this issue of the comic. Also, I feel like in the first issue, Michelangelo's being the Last Ronin was hinted when there was a statement saying that he still can't drive or something like that, which to me felt like a reference to the 2007 TMNT movie, when Donatello says to Michelangelo, "Nice try, Mikey. I don't even trust you with a driver's license."
I half agree with that, Leo is the one to make the sacrifice play, but since he's the best of them he'll probably be the last to die. In issue 1 he was my first guess for who Ronin was and Mikey was my third. This series is showing me a Michelangelo I didn't think could exist.
Not live action, animated series like 6 episode and hour or more apiece. Rated R on Netflix or HBOMAX. This is an awesome story. I can wait for issue 3.
Not going to lie. I'm glad they did mikey as the only last ronin. He has always been my favorite, the goofball attitude and care free nature of him was amazing and now that he is the last one he is all about bringing vengeance to his family. It's amazing

@@vaporouselm9932 raph is a savage but he would've eventually been overpowered by sheer numbers. It was probably only rage that carried him as far as he went. If four mutant ninja turtles couldn't crush the foot and had to call a truce with them, it is highly unlikely that one mutant ninja turtle could've destroyed them all. But I feel the place where you're coming from.
What got me most was that, this was the only real way he'd go out. Raph was always the one that would recklessly go out and charge into battle. I think it was either Leo or Splinter that told him that his recklessness is what would get him killed one day. But this was a blend of everything he's learned up till now: patience, savagery, tact, ruthlessness, inner harmony, and recklessness. This was THE way for him to go out

Splinter was always on him not to let his anger get the better of him. Splinter being on death's door was just too much for him. And really how else would Raph have gone out than his temper pushing him to make a mistake and meeting a violent end? I'm hoping the future entries to this series cover each of the turtles on how their biggest character traits were their down fall. Raph was always angry so that get's him kill. Leo was always the leader so sacrificing himself will probably get him killed. Donnie overthinking things and succumbing to inaction will probably get him killed. And finally Mikey being a joker might be the twist to the story that allows him to win in the end. This story is great so far, I can't wait for the final hardback edition with the whole series.
They touched on Raphael’s continued mutation in the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series where he is bigger and stronger in an episode set in the future.

Her final blow was cheap, considering it took a whole army to slow him down, first. That's how she got the upper hand. Using an army to weaken him. If Raph was thinking straight though, he should've dragged her to the bottom, until she drowned. He had the weight and speed to drag her down, without Karai being able to reach for anything.

Actually raph is always pretty short. The original mirage comics he was the shortest 3 inches shorter than mikey. 2012 2nd shortest. Idw he's the same height as mikey. The only version where raph is the biggest is the bay turtles and rottmnt.
Don't get it twisted Michaelangelo was said to have the most potential for improvement because of his lazy nature he gets left behind in skill by leonardo and Raphael I do believe in the future he's the 2nd best fighter on team because he can beat raph in training. To my comic knowledge he's beaten Raphael in training but never beaten leonardo.
Just stated a feat since the 2003 show was based on the mirage comics. My favorite show is the 2012 series but I agree to stop saying mikey survived because he's the "best" he's not. As teenagers he's the 3rd best fighter. We all know the other turtles would die to protect him because he's the youngest.
I will say it was sad seeing Raphael dye and knowing how it happened, but the action and writing were brilliant. It shows the true Raphael, what he does with his actions and what choices he makes. Him going all out on the foot clan was just done good, it just showed how one of them changes when something horrible happens
Agreed. I hated Bay's manuscript, but those turtles (design wise) were the best in my opinion. They looked like they could take on an army of modern day soldiers - not the power-ranger stunt doubles, of choreographed dancers. I loved the original turtle movies, for the era they were made - I was the target audience, after all. But move their evolution a decade or two later, and their mutation would have to adapt to a more violent world.

I'm one of four brothers. We were born in the 80s and raised in the 90s loving the turtles. We are close in age and naturally trained in martial arts together. We each identify with a different turtle. I always felt close to Raf. I can't get through an issue without weaping. This is amazing to read but heart wrenching to see my idols falling. The echoes of my worst fears on paper. What a great series and how lucky are we to get it!
Having Mikey snap at Raph is some serious shit. As he always backed him and eased the tension. What must be a killer is how often Mikey was told he was the most talented if only he put more effort into training then having fun. So glad someone made this series. Would love a continuation, Mikey on his own. Finding/training up others. PS: Raph and Leo had epic and fitting deaths but why does Donnie always get the shaft q_q
If you think about it. Having Mikey the last one alive makes a lot of sense. From being a carefree happy go lucky jokester. To cold blooded filled with malice and hell bent on revenge.
It is their sister karai, not Electra though her suit here is similar to Electra.karai is the daughter of the master splinter who was adopted by shredder because of jealousy and the wife of splinter got killed in a fire during their duel.

I kinda expect it though, he's the youngest of the 4. It wasn't rare in these kind of stories, where the youngest eventually had to carry the burden of the older one. Making him grow up. Like you know, he is like, the goofball in the team, free nature and all. he diidn't had leadership skill and serious like Leo, who is the oldest. he's not as strong as Raphael. And he's not as smart as Donatello. Yet he's the only one who survived. Because in the end, he's the one who's gonna do everything despite his lack of traits out of his older brother. That like, the ultimate final push to make him grow-up. I would be surprised if it was Mikey who didn't survived and one of his older brother who is the last ronin.
I honestly just want a Casey Jones issue or solo story. Him beating the crap of criminals and foot soldiers would be awesome. I mean imagine they show Casey's struggle to keep up with the turtles and trying to fight other stronger mutants, aliens and ghosts.
I haven’t read a Turtles comic in over 30 years and I might just have to pick up this series. Having the original guys back doing the book is very nice.

Reminds me of the original charmed TV show. The youngest sister was bubbly goofy and care free till her oldest sister died then she took her training more seriously and dropped the goofiness

For me I always knew Ralph would be the first to die it's just how he would go down. He would make sure to kill as many of them as possible but Ralph should have listened to his brother to stay with the team. It was a epic death tho, sad to see him go but at least it was how he wanted. I pretty much knew it would out of Mikey or Leo to be the last of the turtle's 🐢 to be left alive. Seeing that it's Mikey that is the last Ronin means a really big battle happen which only Casey, April and Mikey survived with Leo and Donatello staying behind to let the others escape.
Being Raphael was my turtle growing up, I almost knew immediately he was going to be the first to go. Come on...the first movie he spent half the time in a bathtub cuz he never thought first and went on emotion. But hell, going out avenging Splinter is the way Raph would have gone had the story never stopped. Freaking A +++++!

You right the Raid Director would be amazing and intense and Del Toro would be Visually Stunning. Del Toro should do this as a Netflix Mini Series but swap episodes with the Raid Director as far as episodes containing fights. The intimacy and empathy of the Story is begging on the soul. This would be a Masterpiece.

Man I'm 38 now, but that was such a great unbelievably awesome story I've always loved the turtles growing up toys comic books cartoons all of it but that was really epic to know that Mikey was the last one keep this line of stories coming and I'll keep watching dude fucking awesome!

Mikey has the brains of Doni, skill of Leo, and the strength of Ralph but we lost Mikey.

Hard to match let alone beat hard charging an army of the foot while shrugging off getting stabbed and shot with arrows.
I'm scared that donatello or even Leonardo cracks after losing so much and takes their own life. Its kind of hinted at in a few scenes

Also, I feel like in the first issue, Michelangelo's being the Last Ronin was hinted when there was a statement saying that he still can't drive or something like that, which to me felt like a reference to the 2007 TMNT movie, when Donatello says to Michelangelo, "Nice try, Mikey. I don't even trust you with a driver's license."
I half agree with that, Leo is the one to make the sacrifice play, but since he's the best of them he'll probably be the last to die. In issue 1 he was my first guess for who Ronin was and Mikey was my third. This series is showing me a Michelangelo I didn't think could exist.

This is how I see it. Leo was the leader of them and at one point actually joined shredder and eventually comes back but sees himself as a failure for it. Donnie's head is always in some tech and strayed away from hard martial training a long time ago. Then Ralph, the hothead. Great martial artist, just doesn't think. Then leaves Mikey. Master Sprinter said himself Mikey had the most potential of the 4 brothers. Hence why he gave him the nunchucks, to have him concentrate, since it is one of the hardest martial arts weapons to master. And as brandon said above, Mikey would try just not put a whole lot of effort in since he was so easy going. Just had to take his family to die for him to become serious. Lol

If four mutant ninja turtles couldn't crush the foot and had to call a truce with them, it is highly unlikely that one mutant ninja turtle could've destroyed them all. What got me most was that, this was the only real way he'd go out. Raph was always the one that would recklessly go out and charge into battle. I think it was either Leo or Splinter that told him that his recklessness is what would get him killed one day.
But this was a blend of everything he's learned up till now: patience, savagery, tact, ruthlessness, inner harmony, and recklessness. This was THE way for him to go out
What hits worse for me is he was stabbed with his own blade... had he not had that dagger on his thigh for Karai to grab, he would've won....

Splinter was always on him not to let his anger get the better of him. Splinter being on death's door was just too much for him. And really how else would Raph have gone out than his temper pushing him to make a mistake and meeting a violent end?
I'm hoping the future entries to this series cover each of the turtles on how their biggest character traits were their down fall. Raph was always angry so that get's him kill. Leo was always the leader so sacrificing himself will probably get him killed. Donnie overthinking things and succumbing to inaction will probably get him killed. And finally Mikey being a joker might be the twist to the story that allows him to win in the end.
This story is great so far, I can't wait for the final hardback edition with the whole series.
They touched on Raphael’s continued mutation in the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series where he is bigger and stronger in an episode set in the future.

Her final blow was cheap, considering it took a whole army to slow him down, first. That's how she got the upper hand. Using an army to weaken him. If Raph was thinking straight though, he should've dragged her to the bottom, until she drowned. He had the weight and speed to drag her down, without Karai being able to reach for anything.
But it looked like he got her as well, because Raph stabbed her in the back with a knife, and she appears to be in a coma.

Actually raph is always pretty short. The original mirage comics he was the shortest 3 inches shorter than mikey. 2012 2nd shortest. Idw he's the same height as mikey. The only version where raph is the biggest is the bay turtles and rottmnt.

Don't get it twisted Michaelangelo was said to have the most potential for improvement because of his lazy nature he gets left behind in skill by leonardo and Raphael I do believe in the future he's the 2nd best fighter on team because he can beat raph in training. To my comic knowledge he's beaten Raphael in training but never beaten leonardo.
Just stated a feat since the 2003 show was based on the mirage comics. My favorite show is the 2012 series but I agree to stop saying mikey survived because he's the "best" he's not. As teenagers he's the 3rd best fighter. We all know the other turtles would die to protect him because he's the youngest.
I will say it was sad seeing Raphael dye and knowing how it happened, but the action and writing were brilliant. It shows the true Raphael, what he does with his actions and what choices he makes. Him going all out on the foot clan was just done good, it just showed how one of them changes when something horrible happens

Agreed. I hated Bay's manuscript, but those turtles (design wise) were the best in my opinion. They looked like they could take on an army of modern day soldiers - not the power-ranger stunt doubles, of choreographed dancers. I loved the original turtle movies, for the era they were made - I was the target audience, after all. But move their evolution a decade or two later, and their mutation would have to adapt to a more violent world.

It's one of my fastest.... But really was anxious how the plots events will turn out. Now I can sleep happily.
I'm one of four brothers. We were born in the 80s and raised in the 90s loving the turtles. We are close in age and naturally trained in martial arts together. We each identify with a different turtle. I always felt close to Raf. I can't get through an issue without weaping. This is amazing to read but heart wrenching to see my idols falling. The echoes of my worst fears on paper. What a great series and how lucky are we to get it!

I kinda expect it though, he's the youngest of the 4. It wasn't rare in these kind of stories, where the youngest eventually had to carry the burden of the older one. Making him grow up. Like you know, he is like, the goofball in the team, free nature and all. he diidn't had leadership skill and serious like Leo, who is the oldest. he's not as strong as Raphael. And he's not as smart as Donatello. Yet he's the only one who survived. Because in the end, he's the one who's gonna do everything despite his lack of traits out of his older brother. That like, the ultimate final push to make him grow-up.
I would be surprised if it was Mikey who didn't survived and one of his older brother who is the last ronin.

For me I always knew Ralph would be the first to die it's just how he would go down. He would make sure to kill as many of them as possible but Ralph should have listened to his brother to stay with the team. It was a epic death tho, sad to see him go but at least it was how he wanted. I pretty much knew it would out of Mikey or Leo to be the last of the turtle's 🐢 to be left alive. Seeing that it's Mikey that is the last Ronin means a really big battle happen which only Casey, April and Mikey survived with Leo and Donatello staying behind to let the others escape.
Being Raphael was my turtle growing up, I almost knew immediately he was going to be the first to go. Come on...the first movie he spent half the time in a bathtub cuz he never thought first and went on emotion. But hell, going out avenging Splinter is the way Raph would have gone had the story never stopped. Freaking A +++++!

You right the Raid Director would be amazing and intense and Del Toro would be Visually Stunning. Del Toro should do this as a Netflix Mini Series but swap episodes with the Raid Director as far as episodes containing fights. The intimacy and empathy of the Story is begging on the soul.

Man I'm 38 now, but that was such a great unbelievably awesome story I've always loved the turtles growing up toys comic books cartoons all of it but that was really epic to know that Mikey was the last one keep this line of stories coming and I'll keep watching dude fucking awesome!
