Hitting the ball with a fully extended arm improved my game so much. I used to hit it at head level like I was throwing a ball. But imagining that I had to reach the ceiling to hit the ball allowed me to actually spike for the first time.
@@kindplanet1 that’s just personal preference. If you watch the difference between Ishikawa’s serves from team Japan and Allen from team Brazil. @@Sulfat_lol I concur, but I can’t help but doing it as a lot of my jump being able to hit the height necessary depends on my arms lol. I should exercise more…
It's not only about reaching higher or not. It's about the finger positioning. You shouldn't just raise the hands to block, but you should try to get your thumbs almost parallel to each other. It's better to block stronger spikes and it's more unlikely to hit your block and pass through it.
Probably multiple reasons. You don’t push over the net enough so it leaves your face open, pushing over the net as shown in the video protects your face so you will most likely not get hit. Maybe you just don’t believe that you’ll get that kill block every time and that’s a mental challenge that you have to overcome. Not sure quite what the problem is but I hope this helps :)
Just JUMP! If you’re scared the ball will hit ur face you can move your shoulders closer to ur face (which helps with covering more area with blocking).
Stand a bit further from the net maybe, I tend to get a bit scared when I don’t think the hitter is going to get it over the net and im gonna get face slapped by the ball through the net.
@@Syleion Generally that’ll mean, at least in my experience, that you need to work on how you hold your hands/arms when blocking. Similar to a dig, the tension you hold in your arms plays a large role in how the ball will move after making contact with you arms. Higher tension=harder surface= greater bounce. You can also go over it in slow motion: check how much time he spent with his hands away from the net vs the 2nd take. It might still look quick, but he takes the better part of half of his air time with an ''open net'' and the ball would be flying even he makes contact. The timing is therfore much more difficult.

The second one reaches the top of the net faster unlike the first one which throws the arms back then to the net.
Also I think the first one is more tiring to keep doing in a match as one probably does it like 40 times at least
