StG44 with Original Matching Scope!

  • Many design platforms today owe their origins to the German StG-44. Birthed during World War 2 by Huge Schmeisser, the select-fire Sturmgewehr utilized an intermediate 7.92x33 Kurz cartridge which allowed for a smaller overall profile, was more appropriate for the common distances of engagement, and provided more controllable recoil. Stamped parts made production inexpensive and quick. The StG44 quickly made their mark on the Eastern front where it was found to be accurate, offered more range than the MP40, more CQB potential than the Kar 98k, and could still lay down suppressive full-auto fire.
This particular example is in extraordinary condition, with 90% of its original World War 2 combination phosphate & blued finish and all matching numbers, right down to the RARE ZF4 scope. STG44 were not chosen for sniper or DMR duty, but this scope clearly indicates that such things were once strongly considered by Mauser, enough to warrant a scope specially calibrated for the 8mm Kurz cartridge.

The two versions of the Sturmgewehr that you mention,"H" and "W", were not both designed by Hugo Schmeisser. H was the designation for the Haenel design whose design team was led by Hugo Schmeisser. W was the designation for the Walther design based on work done by Karl Brauning. Reference "Sturmgewehr!" The AK47 was infact NOT an STG44 direct ripoff, with some knowledge regarding the firearm you can actually see that the Gas,Locking is from the M1 Garand (If you read Kalashnikovs book you would see this stated) and also the Bolt is essentially an upside down M1 Garand bolt.
The very concept of an automatic easy to make and powerful assault rifle was taken from STG44 by Mr Mikhail Kalashnikovs but it was only to a certain extent to be more specific it is more the aesthetics (Iron sights, Wood stock)

The ZF4 scopes and scope mounts were never widely used in the field. Their use was abandoned after trials proved that the accuracy using the scope was far below expectations. The fact that many MP-44/StG-44's still had scope mounts on their receivers was either due to the Germans not wanting to make another design change to the production line to remove it, or the expectation that the mounts could later be used with vampir infrared night vision, if vampir would be made in numbers great enough to be widely issued for the rifles. TH-cam videographers need to delve deeper into research so they don't present a false impression, such as the use of ZF4's in field service on the MP-43/44/StG-44 series of rifles.

I wish I had the disposable income to throw at something like this. I'll likely never have the privilege of owning such a remarkable piece of history.

Hmm, you seem to have the larger details right. But, in describing as to why they called it a MP43 (and later revisions MP44), didn't change the way it was used on the eastern front. Essentially what the weapon did was make a single rifle-man equal to an entire German doctrine rifleman squad. Which was (I may be off on the exact numbers) 2-4 bolt-action Kar98K equipped riflemen and one 2 - 4 man (depending on how much ammo and replacement barrels was being lugged around with a MG42. Or if, if it was (according to Hitler, the superior weapon because milled) half-manufacture version that Rheinmetall wanted to replace universally with the 42 but was never allowed meaning every one of these meant one MG42 worth of resources and three MG42 worth of the factory manhours were wasted i.e. one 34 means one 42 never made, the MG34 and its assorted support tripod which, reaaally isn't a fucking universal MG even if they used it as such. That is you force multiplied a single rifleman with the capacity of an entire fucking squad which has a MG in it. That has to be a hundred-fold increase.
The doctrine was the same. It was not used as an Machinepistol. Despite the designation to fool psychotic nazi leadership. Self-loading on assault. Fully auto only when switching to the role of the MG42. Either suppressive fire from a lightly fortified or at least conceiled position to enable controlled retreat when facing too much offensive heat from the enemy or when defending a position.
And the ability to switch between these literally by just flipping a switch, not by screaming for the MG34 guys to get their gun operational and crossing your fingers, when you needed to stop an assault or switch to retreating to a more favorable position, is what made it possible to stem the tide of running-and-gunning russians with no training and a couple of drums for their SMG, told to run until shot dead or survive alive to Berlin, extremely effectively.
The russians had far less in form of rifleman support that was effective on the combat ranges, due to their really not being such a thing as a "Russian Riflemanship School". The vast majority of soldiers barely knew how to operate a bolt and fire somewhere towards the enemy a unaimed shot. They didn't know how sights worked, so the prefferred method was to throw them at the Germans with SMGs.
The Germans on the otherhand were very capable riflemen every one of them, so, you know. This thing being a self-loader, easy to reacquire a sight after a shot or after some experience, literally not loosing it at all, as opposed to fully powered self-loading german rifles and their kick, or the time needed to reciprocate a K98 bolt, made the STG44 even more combat effective for assault than previous weapons and the devastation at range to Soviets with no mine stompers or mobile armor to throw at the coming germans... well. Were up shit creek with out a paddle when a single STG44 equipped guy was doing the assault.
And the SMG guys easily shocked by if getting close, that a self-loader switches to full-auto and is effective at suppressive fire before they can get a bead on him at the SMGs range. That was also a fun thing surely.
