Walther P99 Final Edition - Walther Says Goodbye to One of the Best Guns Ever Made

  • ‪@Waltherarms‬ has decided to end production of the P99 AS and as a final tribute has produced the "Final Edition" pistol. The P99, In my opinion, is one of the best and most advanced handguns ever made. Think about it - the design of the P99 is 26 years old. It brought to market so many features that today we consider "normal". It is this design that gave birth to the ultra successful Canik line of handguns. No collection is complete without a P99 AS. Just my opinion. What are your thoughts on the P99 AS? I look forward to your comments.

    Breaks my heart to see a pistol this good being put out to pasture for something like the PDP. They should have updated the P99, move the decocker to a different spot to make way for a red dot. The PDP sucks as far as im concerned. I know im probably in the minority. But the P99 was a masterpiece. Da/sa and AS striker design. Truly one of a kind.

      @NitroNinja324 I have used the PDP. 3 times actually. Range rentals. I don't have a preference between striker or hammer fired. I just found the recoil of the PDP to be out of line for a 9mm. In my hands, it flips like a subcompact 40 cal. Maybe worse than that. Not sure why that is, but i can run many other pistols very flat. I will say that it is very comfortable in the hand and the PDP pro has the cleanest striker fired trigger I've ever felt. The slide serrations are fantastic. But that ridiculous recoil for a 9mm turned me off to it.

    As a collector of over 100 handguns several being Walther, I have to say I am greatly disappointed in this one. I picked it up from my FFL last weekend expecting perfection and that’s hardly what I got. Below the trigger guard was a big cast mark blemish that is discolored and scratched. Also, the hard case looks like somebody dragged it across a half mile long gravel parking lot. I contacted Walther with these issues and they told me it is a “normal casting mark”. Really? This is the first time I’m seeing this defect on any of my polymer guns. You won’t find any of these “normal casting marks” on any H&K or even a Glock so give it a rest Walther. As for the case, they told me these are stored in the warehouse stacked so some of them will exhibit marks. So they did nothing and wanted to know nothing. Not what I was expecting from a company like this. I’m greatly disappointed.

    This P99 AS Final Edition was my first polymer frame, striker fire handgun. I never thought I'd ever appreciate the feel of a plastic handgun, too light or too passive,...I'm set in my ways, with that mentality of 1971-73 207th MP days cocked and locked with my M1911A1 under cover,... After reading a short review in Guns and Ammo. Then researching this weapon as a well respected, 4 decade long service revolver (throw in the James Bond element.) I did MORE research on the Walther history. It was then when I felt a real appreciation for the German engineering and feel of this handgun. So I bought it. I love this handgun and I really love the AS trigger system. It's really genius as a tactile feel of an automatic trigger action. Once you try it, you understand the beauty in the design and action. Sure wish I knew how many were manufactured.

    Disappointed that this pistol will be retired. I acquired a Walther P99 (Gen 1, hump in the trigger guard) in 2021. This weapon, very ingenious in its mechanism, managed to mix a DA/SA with a firing pin system. Very clever !

    Ironically I like everything about these but the antistress mode. Having a da/sa mode that is also sometimes in basically HK LEM mode is too much for me.

  • @johnchristopher20
    @johnchristopher20 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The P99 not only corrected Glock’s shortcomings, it provided a striker version of HK’s hammer fired LEM system. Ignorance and Smith & Wesson’s treachery hobbled it. If you don’t have one, never try one or you will realize what you missed out on.

    The only disappointing thing I find on the Final Edition is that they didn't use the extended ambidextrous slide catch/release and night sights on the elusive "Defense Kit" version. It would've been nice to also include the other backstraps and a third magazine. Maybe I'm just nitpicking, but considering this is my favorite pistol of all time, if Walther is gonna make a fancy Final Edition or whatnot for like 800 bucks, I expect a little more from them. I would be just as happy with a regular second generation P99 as the Final Edition.

    I will sell my PDP 4" Compact to thin my herd, because the P99 Final Edition I just purchased is just too many in the collection. I will not sell my G17L or G40. Love 6.02" barrels. Any way, the P99 AS FEd. will keep my PDP, WMP, PPQ M2 .22 company. Golden age of polymer indeed.
    Oh yea, 4 H&Ks is not enough also 🤣✌️
    AND, the Sig P226 Elite I just purchased is phenomenal but the low budget case is a brand disgrace given Sig's in store premium displays . Back to metal pistols after selling my CZ's.
    Sig Sauer HQ is just a 58 min car ride from me here in New Hampshire.
