Chris, you can buy a rebuild kit with new diaphragms, gaskets, and rivets from Zip-corvette. The screw is used to adjust for max loudness. You can't tune them or adjust the note. The problem I had was the point contacts were too corroded even after filing the surfaces. The pot metal housings also started to corrode away. I wasted a lot of time and then just bought new ones after all.
+Rob M I seen that kit it's like $55.. I don't think trying to rebuild them would be worth it mainly because how hard it is to get the rivets out... but if you had special brackets you would have to rebuild them I guess..
So fortunate my 72 Nova was well kept and a zero rust car looks and operates as show room. My horn was being intermittent and removed horn relay and a point file in solenoid contacts and she works as new. The dash and steering wheel are perfect. A bit of normal hand wear on horn center surround but some careful black paint and looks original. Seat belt buzzer and all electrics operate as intended. Horn is very loud but must be very well hidden I’ve never seen it.
i did see another you tube video you grind off rivits and pull it apart clean it ,, and use screws and nuts and black sealer ,, you can pull them apart,, i did not know you can adjust them like your doing very imformative
Very informative video! I've never played around with the Delco-Remy horns but I do play around with the newer Fiamm horns. I've noticed that when you tune the screw, if you turn it clockwise, the sound gets higher, if you turn it counter-clockwise, it gets lower. But if you go too far out of range on either side, all you get is a boof sound like it's trying to do something, but it won't. The first one that sounded during your test though sounded sickly still. I'm not sure if it was the high or low since it didn't make a consistent sound. The one that sounded a second after sounded great though so that was a good horn for sure. The art of tuning can be quite frustrating though. I finally have a good pair of Italian made Fiamms that sound really good but I noticed some of the older Fiamm horns have almost no play in the tuning at all where there newer ones do, you could literally turn the screw twice around and it would still work but some only let you turn them 1/4 of a turn before it stops working correctly. Definitely hard to test though when you have neighbors that might not want to hear you honking all day long. lol
You can buy some very nice quality and really inexpensive replacement after-market horns from Harbor Freight and they have all kinds, even Air Horns too. :)

I bought 2 replacement horns for my 67 Riviera in 2024. My Riv has male connectors, 1 for each horn. The replacements have a double pin type connector. They are wired together. How do I attach the 2 leads from the Riv, to the new horns? Thank you in advance.
Thanks Chris - you always dig into it which is great for all of us! Question: Is a horn relay necessary at all? Take a 76 basic jeep, it has a non-functioning horn relay, one ignition hot wire, one ground and one to factory horn. Why couldn't I just have an 'ignition on' hot wire, a ground and a wire to horn and then the horn button contact complete the circuit? (This may not even need a ground, I don't know...). Seems like this would make it a stand alone setup, no relay. I've never known the actual reason for a horn relay when it is the horn contact (horn button pushed) that completes the circuit anyway. It is the switch, so why an added relay switch?
you need it because the horn uses a lot of amps and you can heat things up.. you can use a regular 4 pin relay from auto parts but factory relays have a buss bar on them. not sure on older jeeps. I have a horn relay video… if yours looks like that you might need to get another one.. if it is stand alone you can use any relay.. maybe I need to make a video on that

I want to make sure I get the right kit for mine...maybe the parts work in many models...ive got my original but doesnt say DELCO MORAINE on it but don't care....just want to make original one work well....sent you a PM.....tc great videos....
my dam horn only works when I run a ground wire to the brass on the turn signal switch. until I saw 3:35. I remember when I was putting the car together I painted the bottom of the steering collumn. not the rag joint but the part of the column where it makes contact with the rag joint. so I may have to sand it down. on my 64 chevelle ss
Thanks for getting back chris...i just saw another video of urs wer u cover what i was asking it was an external regular ...thankz for ur videos i just send it to my bro he has a 69 chevelle that he just got n some1 chop n rig all the wiring up from the front to the dash ur videos are life saver n there refreshing my memory i use to know all this stuff...had a 70 el camino..N 66 chevy truck in H.Sch..class of 88. Now i work on heavy equipment n its all computure ..once again thankzz for putting up ur videos n taking time to do it...keep up the good wrk..n b safe...

After watching this and noting the comments I think I will simply replace the horns for new and shelve the OEM units - thanks for a concise video.

you can.. but only on super rare expensive car would you go through the trouble...
