Agreed. This channel has gone down hill. I unsubscribed a year ago, too much “im mark bell and you are not, meatheadmillioniare, dlb is natty, how to skwaat” got old really quick. So many people left super training i can see why
That should happen when you do your warmups. You will expend unnecessary energy unpacking heavy wt. The key is to get a good liftoff. when I used to compete I usually always had a liftoff from the same people I trained with.
@@hawg427 I set the height at a level where I'm only lifting it up an inch. I've tried the handoff and it always a shock to receive the bar over my chest. It's like I'm realizing how heavy it is. When I unrack it myself I don't have that problem.
Well deadboy600, I trump David's State record with 7 World Records and 13 National records and a #1 ranking by powerliftingwatch in the over 50 SHW Raw Bench for the last 3 years!!!. LOL!!! Sorry I could not resist that. No offence David. It is a preference thing. Bottom line. Just like how some people love suicide grip and some people cringe when they see it. Some people have a wide grip and some people have a very narrow grip. Hand offs are the same way. Personal preference. I love them. Well not LOVE them, but I do prefer them.
Im no powerlifter but never liked liftoffs. I train alone and allways unrack myself it lets me know if its to heay. If I cant unrack it no way I could bench it. Really useful to see why you guys arch your backs. I dont do it never will but I understand why now.
Bryce was my volleyball coach in High School. Now he's one of the most useful tools I have as I'm getting really into power lifting. Pretty remarkable that he was as active coaching as he was while he was still training for competitions. Didn't appreciate it fully until now. Had to have made recovery tougher to be coaching a team sport full time.
Good to know, the barbell is generally SW at eyes to nose level . my coach always says the barbell is just above your eyes, which I always feel uncomfortable .
I only self unrack when I do not have someone to lift off for me when I go heavy. It sames a small amount of strength for the press to have assistance. Makes a difference between 6 reps of 500lbs or 7 reps sometimes. I have just gotten used to different types of lift offs. I even have people have to do one side then the other when I am in the 550s and 560s. When I self unrack I move up slightly on the bench to save my labrums. I tore a labrum going from too far back when self unracking. I do balls of my feet only and never do flat foot. It works for me. 7 raw World Bench records in the last 3 years and 13 National records, I must be doing something right. just saying. I am used to light lift offs, heavy lift offs, one side at a time lift offs. The benefit of saving that small amount of strength is well worth it for me to have a lift off.
Haven’t watched a Mark Bell video since Bryce Lewis was there years ago. Basically the only well educated lifter with real info on his channel. Also someone you know who doesn’t fucking drugs.
Fuck ya! I havnt done my first competition yet but i generally unrack myself as well. Didnt know you can do it in competition too! Thats awesome im going to shoot for this!
Maybe not legal in comp. But I lift my butt off the bench and as I set my butt down the bar unracks almost by itself and comes into possition with out doing anything with the arms or shoulders.
yeh its way easier to unrack with ass off the bench, probably because you can arch more so you're pushing the weight more perpendicular to your body, rather than out and up
today i was benching. but i couldn't unrack the weight weird enough. i did the same weight 2 days after and it was easy and all i did 3x5 and then drop sets. maybe it was a lack of recovery? i lowered the weight since i could not unrack it, droped like 20kilos and did triples with a challenging rep
Very informative! I always self lift(though my numbers are very much a beginner's). I've always read that your eyes should be below the bar though so my unracking tends to give me a couple more inches in to the press position, I think I will have to give this a try with having the bar lower down. Can you think of any reason why you wouldn't?
Helpful. My shoulder was hurting from self-unracking because I was losing scapular retraction, and had the bar around my forehead rather than my nose. Watching your video helped me solve my issues.
Entonces recomiendas en la posición de la boca? La mayoría va en la posición de los ojos, dices que en la nariz es como muy estrecha la posición... Y la ideal es boca
Anyone have tips for butt coming off the bench? I use the cue to push back and not up with my legs but that way I ending up sliding backwards on the bench.
Thanks bro been training a lot this time around in life by myself getting older was a heavy bencher several times in my life growing up 500 + now 45 trying to get back there so I got to push through it definitely will be trying to technique Master it so if I have to got to do it alone it's guys out there doing it. So it can be done real talk stay strong everybody this Big Dog I'm out WPO🐺
Never liked the self-unrack but informative nonetheless. However, I train with a powerlifting team so I dont have the same lift off woes as a commercial gym goer.
It’s not that it’s revolutionary, it’s that a lot of people do it in compromised positions. I don’t know how many videos I’ve seen of shoulders give out or dislocate due to a bad self unrack, and that usually leads to more injuries when that weight crashes down on the lifter.
this guy is a great teacher, very clear and concise directions
and this guy watch too much JoJo
Mark Bell’s best videos are the ones in which he doesn’t appear.
Daaaaaaaamn. I mean, you aren't wrong
too funny!
I think you need an awakening

mattesl1 That’s his best dialogue, ever.
Bryce Lewis is a beast. I could listen to him talk all day. Thank you for the video
I compete in the USPA. I have the state bench press record in the 198. I always self unrack. The unracking is when my body acclimates to the weight.
That should happen when you do your warmups. You will expend unnecessary energy unpacking heavy wt. The key is to get a good liftoff. when I used to compete I usually always had a liftoff from the same people I trained with.
You're hard...
SO true!!! That small amount of energy exerted in the self lift off can mean the difference between getting 575 and missing it by an inch!

yeah its not necessary to arch super big unless youre tryna bench as heavy as possible
Could not stop staring at the mini mark bell on the left side of the bench! hahaha!!
Great information !!
Gotta love Bryce. So methodical and meticulous. Great video!

Damn fine lat spread brother Bryce is displaying at the end.
Great tips for working out in a home gym during this pandemic in 2020
Awesome video on a hard to find topic. Please make a proper way to warm up for bench for maximum strength
That bicep tattoo is the coolest thing that I have ever seen
this was really useful, particularly the bench setup. Thanks!
Woohoo... excited for this one !
Exactly how i setup for the bench and unruck too.

Thanks fam will try💪
no! you just need the right equipment for you, i used to unrack it myself until my gym changed the rack, it is now either too high or too low
You can definitely self unrack with the widest comp grip possible. Done it many times
On my first Powerlifting meet I self unrack the bench press myself. I prefer it and always will
dislike bc he benched my max deadlift.. no sike thanks for the tips!
Haven’t watched a Mark Bell video since Bryce Lewis was there years ago.
Basically the only well educated lifter with real info on his channel. Also someone you know who doesn’t fucking drugs.
my max is 325 and I have trouble un racking anything past 245. I’m gonna try this
Fuck ya! I havnt done my first competition yet but i generally unrack myself as well. Didnt know you can do it in competition too! Thats awesome im going to shoot for this!
I prefer no hand off.
Maybe not legal in comp. But I lift my butt off the bench and as I set my butt down the bar unracks almost by itself and comes into possition with out doing anything with the arms or shoulders.

It's legal in comp. They won't give you the start command until your butt comes back down to the bench.
today i was benching. but i couldn't unrack the weight weird enough. i did the same weight 2 days after and it was easy and all i did 3x5 and then drop sets. maybe it was a lack of recovery? i lowered the weight since i could not unrack it, droped like 20kilos and did triples with a challenging rep
So true the wider I’ve taken my grip the harder the unrack

Whitebushido I ve been doing it too and nowadays I m literally grinding out the unracking part as the weights get heavier ..
Thank you Bryce.
My stupid bar slides back along the hooks and pushes the rack up. I'm really getting miserable on bench days
Great video, thanks.
unfortunately as you move to the heavier weights this game plan doesnt always work
Very smart guy with simple explanations that you can understand clearly his cues are amazing. @dre_the_guru insta

I hate having max loads in my hands

Its so fucking hard to pull my shoulders back. Im just so tight its almost impossible lol
Damn I love this guy
What about when you are lifting 3rm or hypertrophy
Good shit
thank you
this guy looks like a ex co worker of mine but no hair
Anyone have tips for butt coming off the bench? I use the cue to push back and not up with my legs but that way I ending up sliding backwards on the bench.
That is the main one is to drive toward the bar instead of push up. Bad thing is every time I bench I get a bad ass wedgey.
thicc ginger gang
Thanks bro been training a lot this time around in life by myself getting older was a heavy bencher several times in my life growing up 500 + now 45 trying to get back there so I got to push through it definitely will be trying to technique Master it so if I have to got to do it alone it's guys out there doing it. Next video: how to put weights on the bar.
Kinda shocked how he contolled the 405....
Never liked the self-unrack but informative nonetheless. However, I train with a powerlifting team so I dont have the same lift off woes as a commercial gym goer.
Why are we acting like unracking a weight is revolutionary?
I really am laughing out loud BboyElectrick. Funny the things people get bent about isn't it.
I believe it’s because the default in powerlifting is to use a hand off. So, this runs counter to the powerlifting status quo

Ive been left with a max "load" in my hands too many times.....
I like your moves

LOL!!! Hell why don't powerlifting meets have 4xl and 5xl shirts too. I get really sick of not being able to get a shirt at meets!
