Sheriff Judd was my professor in college when he was a Major with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. I have worked in government and in private practice in the legal system and can unequivocally say that he is demonstrative of precisely what we need in law enforcement, governance and leadership. I live in a modern country. Not some shithole US state. My all time favorite, was during the press release about the killer who was shot many times. The reporter asked why he was shot x number (I forgot the #, seems like 70 or 80 times). The Sheriff answered that the team ran out of bullets. Another case a few years later he was asked how many times they shot this guy and the Sheriff answered "Enough". I think that was the guy on a bike that overpowered two deputies and shot them. One was able to return fire.

It would be easy to make the case that you were afraid that if the perp got the car that your life and the lives of others would be put in danger. He is also pro-Second Amendment which is refreshing. When I gas up my car, I lock it up, keep the keys in my pocket and check my surroundings. It only takes seconds to lose your car. If I am approached, they are going to be challenged when they pull on the door handle and find it's locked. Meanwhile, I will be out of sight calling 911! Low cost tracking devices are available online and I highly recommend their purchase. This will enable to law enforcement to locate your car and with luck, the thieves! The faster you recover your vehicle, the better the chances of getting it back intact. I would disinfect my vehicle if it were ever stolen and recovered in tack, that is for sure!

The problem with speculating about the "character" of the perp, is that it gives the defense team ammunition when claiming bias and getting the trial moved to another county due to a tainted jury pool. The Sheriff thinks he's smart, but he's sabotaging his own department.
I think people in Polk county are more confident that local law enforcement will back them up. In my state you can carry a gun legally but if you pull it and "Don't shoot" they will charge you with a crime amd take your rights and guns away. People are scared to defend themselves.

I like the sheriff, but he is simply wrong. That is not an arguable opinion, it's the law in Florida. You can only use non-deadly force to protect your property, including vehicles. Deadly force (shooting someone) to protect your property is not legal in Florida, unfortunately. Texas is the place to be if you want the ability to protect your property by any means necessary.

The report should stick the questions about the incident and investigation without saying how "they feel" on the matter. From what I've heard, Sheriff Judd is an absolute hardass who expects his deputies to be 100% committed to their duty as deputies, but if they draw fire for doing their job correctly, he'll back them 100%. He's either right or wrong, and it's hard to tell I've heard the bit about its the toality of the situation as whole. Sheriff Judd was my professor in college when he was a Major with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. I have worked in government and in private practice in the legal system and can unequivocally say that he is demonstrative of precisely what we need in law enforcement, governance and leadership. That man is a 100% Grade-A, top-tier human; he does his job (to serve and protect) and doesn’t make excuses for those who make his job necessary.

My all time favorite, was during the press release about the killer who was shot many times. The reporter asked why he was shot x number (I forgot the #, seems like 70 or 80 times). The Sheriff answered that the team ran out of bullets. Another case a few years later he was asked how many times they shot this guy and the Sheriff answered "Enough". I think that was the guy on a bike that overpowered two deputies and shot them. One was able to return fire.

He is also pro-Second Amendment which is refreshing. When I gas up my car, I lock it up, keep the keys in my pocket and check my surroundings. It only takes seconds to lose your car. If I am approached, they are going to be challenged when they pull on the door handle and find it's locked. Meanwhile, I will be out of sight calling 911! Low cost tracking devices are available online and I highly recommend their purchase. This will enable to law enforcement to locate your car and with luck, the thieves! The faster you recover your vehicle, the better the chances of getting it back intact. I would disinfect my vehicle if it were ever stolen and recovered in tack, that is for sure!

I think people in Polk county are more confident that local law enforcement will back them up. In my state you can carry a gun legally but if you pull it and "Don't shoot" they will charge you with a crime amd take your rights and guns away. People are scared to defend themselves.

Deadly force (shooting someone) to protect your property is not legal in Florida, unfortunately. Texas is the place to be if you want the ability to protect your property by any means necessary.

Obviously there isn't a mask mandate in Polk County, DeSantis removed the state mandate, as he should have. Masks cause health issues for the wearer.
