A little jealous you got the 2nd Mafex Superman release lol. While I love that I got the first release, the yellows are considerably paler, the blue highlights in the hair are tad more abrasive & as you said they missed that corner detail in the S shield on the back of the cape. Most of the complaints regarding muted colors were in reference to the first release. So praise yourself for waiting & getting the corrected version lol. Sweet review!
Thanks!!! To be honest I wasn’t planning on collecting Mafex, and was content with Mcfarlane. When I bought the figure I had no idea the differences in the releases, not until I did a little research. I would’ve been okay with the muted colors, but the S on the back would’ve bothered me. Thanks for watching!
Also, in terms of the price difference I think it's fair to take into account that Mafex figures retail prices are closer to $40-$60, with an extra $20 or so accounting for domestic US shipping. I know that might seem like a negligible difference if your total ends up being over $80 for Mafex figs either way, but again I think it's important to remember that we're buying these figures from a foreign market. Overseas a lot of collectors have to pay extra for McFarlane figures. It's all relative I guess lol.
Great point!!! I didn’t take into account how much more Mcfarlane figures are for overseas collectors. I know in Canada if it doesn’t show up in like GameStop, they are paying a lot to have them shipped. Thanks!
It's an interesting comparison, and it kind of reflects on the culture of the two companies. Mafex is being very Japanese, just trying to get everything right without being creative. And the result are very poseable figures that also look like they were designed by Jim Lee or Jon Bogdanove (the creator of Steel). McFarlane is very American, adding their own strong style to the designs. They don't worry too much about how well the joints move or how the figure poses, they're more interested in conveying personality and energy. I'm a Mafex collector, though. I've only ever bought two McF DCU figures, AzBats and Wonder Woman.
That’s an amazing analysis, and I definitely agree. I love Mcfarlane for the unique interpretation of the characters, and I love my Mafex figures, because it’s like they were pulled right out of the comic. Mafex is too expensive for me to really build out a collection, but I’ll be picking up my favorite Superheroes. I pre-ordered Superboy.
Wow, the Mafex are perfect. If it’s in your budget they’re a must.
It’s hands down the best Superman figure I own
Mafex hands down. Save your money and get better figures
I think it depends on what you’re looking for

Get the heroes you love as Mafex, but build out your collection with McFarlane
I like the way you think

That Steel is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
So dope!!!!!
NOw thats a LINE Up!!!
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I've been wanting that Steel for a long time but I will not pay that price
I feel you!!!! It was expensive. That’s why I can’t go down the Mafex road. Only a figure here and there.
Mafex Superman head is too small waiting for them to do another version of him.
Is there another one coming out???
@ nothing announced but one of these years I’ll wait Mafex is expensive
So expensive!!
Maxef by far
It cost more but it's better quality and more accesories
I can’t argue with that. That Daredevil’s looking GOOD
The price difference makes them not worth it comparatively
I can’t argue that!!
Mcfarland one looks better. Sculpt is 1000% better
Very true!!!! But is it worth an extra $40???
