Years ago I took a daylight flight from South Africa to England. As we flew and I looked out over our vast African continent I became fully and deeply aware of my "absolute nothingness." As we landed at London Airport and my daughter stepped forward to greet me I became as fully and gratefully aware that "although I am truly and absolutely nothing... to my daughter I am really someone unique and precious... and she is mine... for eternity - if..." I think our Father feels that about each of us... I'm deeply grateful for that experience years ago. Thank you both, and all those co-duscussing and those supporting you all, for your sacrifices and making these podcasts available to me! On the other side of our magnificent and amazing earth!
Judy Bray, such a pleasure to find you here. Thank you so much for your kindness and help to two CES missionaries twenty five years ago! I still remember a devotional you gave about a brick wall built at the Johannesburg Temple site to show the workers the standard of brick work expected there. I have shared your story with others. Fond memories from Sister Irene McAllister.
Dear Brothers Smith and Bytheway and the wonderful guests, you all give us such an invaluable gift by giving us more knowledge and understanding about our marvelous Savior. My words fall short of expression. My heart is full of gratitude. May God say and bless you with those things he has for His servants. God bless you!
I am thankful for Dr. Schade sharing his personal story of when he was on his mission and prayed to know what to improve upon. He was shocked to learn there was more than one weakness God wanted him to improve, but he didn’t feel “like a loser. I’ve experienced the same feeling when a topic shared by an Apostle or General Authority calls me to repentance. I feel the need to change and improve, but I don’t feel shamed. I still feel their love and in turn the love of our Heavenly Father And our Savior.
I am so grateful for your discussion about our worthlessness, nothingness, as dust and being beggars in the context of being 'unfinished' and incomplete' until we rely on our Savior! Having a tad bit of perfectionism in me and a high standard of completing all that I do (due to competing as a younger athlete and the past 40 years as a musician), this discussion helped to put those words and teachings of King Benjamin in a better light. Thank you for sharing your insights. I know now how to move forward and also bring comfort to others as they see themselves in that state. We are all covered in God's love and He is always there to help us become! 🌻🐞
Thank you for going back to Omni and Words of Mormon to help us understand the context of King Benjamin's speech. We are missing much context due to the loss of the 116 manuscript pages and this discussion fills in some of the gaps in the story, It also strengthens my testimony because I can see both the complexity and coherency of the narrative.
I'm loving this podcast. I particularly rejoice in John's comment that only a fullness of knowledge will require a fullness of responsibility. I rejoice in the great mercy of God
What a beautiful quote about the Atonement by Steven Robinson. We recently found out that our 10 year old granddaughter has leukemia. It is a beautiful reminder that the Savior knows of her pains and suffering through her treatments. This is part of the great plan.
This morning we read from Chapter 4 and I was struck by the number of verses directing them (and us) to care for the poor. Coming out of so much war, they would have had many veterans who struggled with physical and emotional wounds. There would have been beggars who could no longer hunt or farm. I wonder if the people of Nephi were treating their vets the way we sometimes treat ours. I am so very thankful for the men and women who sacrifice so much and serve their countries fighting for what they believe is right. It dawned on me that no matter which side people fight on, they are making sacrifices and they believe the traditions of their fathers and homeland to be true. Perhaps we can follow the words of King Benjamin and not be so quick to judge those who are engaged in war but have charity for all those who are beggars (this would include everyone).
This is my favorite episode. Thanks for being vulnerable, for allowing the spirit to guide your discussion. I pray I can teach the littles in primary well on this subject.
I’ve listened to you wonderful men and guests for a couple of years. Best part of the week. I’m pleases to be able to listen from China, where I’m teaching for the BYu China Teacher Program.
This is a goofy thing for me to say, Caleb, but I’m saying it anyway. I always like to see your smiling face on a comment. It is more than just a token smile there. You portray love and joy. Thank you.
I was moved by the quotation by Dr. shade from Stephen Robinson on the atonement. I played it back again and nowhere was the name of the book by Robinson listed. What was the name of the book that Dr. Shade quoted from on the atonement?

Thank you for reminding me that the Atonement is personal and my Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ love me. Thank you. Could you share where the quote by Stephen Robinson can be found?

I absolutely love this podcast and listen weekly. However…. Can we have only 5-10 minutes devoted to the previous week please? The current week gets short changed. Thank you. 29:49
I totally agree with this! I want to hear more about this week's reading and not such a long review of what we already studied and heard of so beautifully the week before. I find myself skipping to where you actually start talking about this week's lesson. But always grateful for your podcast!
Would someone be so kind to tell me where I can find the wonderful and hopeful quote by Stephen Robinson on the Savior’s Atonement? That would be so helpful to me.

Thank you so much for your podcast. In thinking about the skin color thing , I wonder if theNephites were a dark color, the Lamenites would have changed to a much lighter color, so the Nephits would not be attracted to them.

Very lovingly and thoughtfully written. This is a perspective I hadn’t considered, yet. I’m glad you shared your thoughts.

Where in the world was that quote about Jesus Christ’s Atonement from?? At about 43:30? BEAUTIFUL
How do I access the transcript of this? His testimony of the Saviors atonement was really powerful!
Under the description is a "more." From that, you can scroll down to the transcript bar. Best wishes.

Where can I find "Tabernacle of clay and Jehovah is Jesus" text?
I have always wondered what 5:2 looks like."and they all cried with one voice". Was this a liturgy?
