Hey there my wife is a hair stylist and when we saw you use the serrated scissors for texturing we had a lightbulb moment. Texturizing scissors!!! If you search hair sheers you’ll see some that have a comb like side. These help give hair texture and they’d work amazing for small reeds or foliage! Love your TH-cam content and what you do. I hope that this can help you out.
Nothing like adding in some killer water scenics and having it ruined by a bad batch of product. Nice recovery, I would have been tempted to just walk away lol. That’s a great looking board Luke
Looks great, only thing I might have done differently is use the clear water effect stuff, in a thin layer, behind the waterfalls so that cliff face looks all wet from the water fall/water seeping down
Some neat tricks there as usual :) I need to adapt this technique at some point in future to make some modular height waterfalls for D&D to work with my modular systems (though I just know the thought of this and the gaps it would entail is killing your soul...) Also, I totally agree with your point of view on bringing the detail and realism from dioramas and railways to wargaming, your experiments with this sort of thing to add durability to things like seafoam are absolutely invaluable 👍
I have started a Warhammer club with a mate. All the scenary is 40k style. Where would you start if you were me for some starter scenary, I want to use resin/water effects of that helps wittle things?
hi luke i bought two Four to one Epoxy Resin they are could Norski they are to bottled containers is that ok for my River they are A and b containers fred
Blowtorch, not Bunsen burner - Bunsens are the things that sat on your chemistry bench at school. Er... that's it really! Absolutely stunning work, 15 minutes and I went from "oh hell i could never do that" to "I reckon I could do that". That has to be the mark of a good teacher. Soooperb! The person who commissioned this must be well chuffed. The only thing I would do different is paint the rock face immediately behind the waterfall a darker colour to make it look wet.
Splash effects can be much more easily done with clear hot-glue. Doesn’t require any thing but a torch and a couple sticks. It dries in seconds and will still take acrylic paint.
If there is ever a huge mushroom cloud over in the UK, nobody panic! It's just Luke mixin up his modeling chemicals. Great job sir!!! Board is fantastic as always.
Hi Luke, great video for scenic board building and really cool to see your creative process when handling something that didn't go quite right with the water effect :-)
If you want something that will trim things to different lengths, you want to order some thinning shears for hair cutting. What you used are pinking shears, which cut the same length, but with a zig zag edge. They are great for preventing fraying in fabric, but won't do what you wanted them to do. The thinning shears will though.
Beautiful work! Great recovery btw. I've had a project like that myself that the resin reacted badly to the varnish I used over it. Had to sand the resin and re-coat. That was a b.. Glad your smarter than me!
Another excellent video Luke. At approx.8:05 you said use either white spirit or IPA to soften the resin, to reduce spikes etc. As IPA evaporates faster than White Spirit could you not have used it to thin the resin initially, thus reducing the drying time?
Something to try is Mod Podge for the rapids. You can spread it on and then use an airbrush with air only and create the rapids you need and drys quickly and can easily be painted. Good work on the project.
Phenomenal looking board mate! Full of great tips as always, recently discovered your channel and loving the content. Very inspirational and practical. And top quality puns as well...buzz off!
Doesn't suck when the risky/experimental part comes at the end of a build? I'm a miniaturist--yep, dollhouses--but you have been a wonderful resource for landscaping and building. Like you, sometimes familiar products are hard to come by. Nerve wracking!
Must have been awhile since I've watched your videos, old friend. Geek Gaming is new to me. Anyone talking about the ads, TH-cam is claiming it's a bug - lots of producers are talking about it, and they're not adding or authorizing the 8,265 ads in a 3 minute video.
Schöne grüße aus Deutschland. Ich schau jedes Video von dir an. Du machst echt coole Dioramas. Und ich baue auch eine Landschaft in 1:32. Und wende deine Tipps an. Mfg Piet😎
hairdressers thinning scissors will do what you wanted the serrated scissors to do. They have teeth on the blades and cut about half the hair leaving the rest long :)
Luke, I don't want to be that guy, when this piece is so beautiful and otherwise extremely well crafted.... but I think you need to think about water erosion a little more for future waterfall builds. There are a few little things in this build that are wrong in terms of realism/how water/waterfalls work. Water flows along the shortest lowest path and wears away the ground along its path. This is why the top of the waterfall looks wrong. Waterfalls always form a U shape in the land (when viewed from above), with the tips of the U being the outcroppings of land/stone and the base of the U being where the water drops down. The bottom of the waterfall should be deeper than the surrounding water as it is the area that is taking the most impact from the falling water and is the most warn away - the plunge pool. The rocks you have at the bottom should either have pools in them or be smaller, sharp and jagged if they have just fallen from the overhang above with pools around them and an indent on the side where the water is falling. Sorry, just some minor issues. I would recommend Googling for "geography of a waterfall" and looking at the images that come up. Lots of in-depth explanations of why waterfalls look the way they do and lots of things to learn from to create a more believable waterfall. Something like this might help explain what I mean: images.app.goo.gl/NkvLzoYNKRGpXUke6 I imagine most people will dismiss this by saying "it's a fantasy waterfall, who cares". But I know you are a perfectionist who always likes to improve his artform. So hopefully these little things will help you improve on an otherwise perfect waterfall build. Keep up the great work.
hey mate first off i love ur videos and ideas, Im no longer a gamer but im a taxidermist and just found a product in the taxidermy industry called contour sheet, thought it would be something you might have a use or interest in in making scenes
What do you add to the resin to give the water a more silty/muddy finish? Would a blob of a brown paint along with the ink give that muddy river finish?
Hi Luke, I'm new to all this and am fascinated by your talent. I want to get latex moulds for rock walls etc. I think you mentioned them previously, but I can't find the reference now. Help!!
Hi luke I really want to do something like this on my model railway I used varnish looks okay for my first attempt but now I want to change it all will you be doing anymore model railway stuff again cheers Paul

Hi to... Black Magic Craft, Luke’s Aps - Geek Gaming Scenics, Midwinter Minis and Wyloch’s Armory. I want to issue you 4 with a challenge, if I may... CLOUDS / TWISTERS / WIND EFFECTS UNDER FLYING MODELS!?! I have been looking at a lot of sites and TH-cam vids but they all seem to focus on explosions or fire markers and not figures that are on clear plastic supports, like Kroak or “gravtanks”. I didn’t just want to use cotton wool as it is very white and a little un-realistic. When you look at something that hovers it also kicks up a bit of dust and debris but I have found this difficult to achieve and have it look good / realistic! Any chance the four of you could give things a go with a vid of your findings / ideas / suggestions on how to make a flying model look more like it’s flying / hovering, please? P.S. Great to see all of you posting again under these difficult circumstances!
Good to see my board being made in a video! And still looks good even though it’s intended for Wargaming. Thanks Luke 🤙🏼
