Welcome to this review of the Class 458. Not much to add other than it's a parody of Sliphantom's Unicum Guides, just with a railway spin on them.

Up in Scotland we have the 334 cousins. I used to work on them years ago. They couldn't be used on the Cathcart Circle, Newton and Neilston routes regularly as the motors would overheat. They have an odd 2x2 seating arrangement in the driving cabs and 3x2 in the PTSOL. I recon this was because they were trying to make it all things for all people for Suburban Glasgow's routes- inner suburban layout for north of the clyde and outer suburban for south of the clyde. The cab layout is reasonable because it dosen't have the gangway end but the air con and the heating in the cab is very loud. The suspension has always been very loud, clunky and squeaky, the toilets are just as unpredictable as the 458s but the spongy seats and the recently fitted plug sockets and wifi make up for some of these quirks. I'll never forget having to evacuate a trainload of customers off one in the middle of nowhere as it tore the wires down around us or the set that had a cab double glazed side window that had become full of water between the panes and someone had drew a fish under the water and a small island with a tree above the water so the would swish around them as the train moved! The 334s are i recon like the rest of the Juniper fleet, not great, they are not good but they are not bad either.

The 458 are Staying in SWR but be given a overhaul that includes, toilets, new SWR livery and branding and the biggest changes of all returning to 4 car sets and given there 100 MPH speed back

South Western Railway will be retaining 28 Class 458s for the Portsmouth line until 2027 once they have been replaced by Class 701 Aventras on the Reading and Windsor Services and will be replacing the Class 442s which have now been withdrawn by South Western Railway in March 2021

@@MaverickHunterDaniel no, the 458 was back to Clapham jct, and the 455 was to ewell, I knew they had windows to open so it was slightly cooler

Come back to this after knowing they're gonna be refurbished and stay in service. They're gonna reuse parts from the 442 refurbs and honestly? I cant wait to see it. Might make them somewhat less badly built, and make them feel very modern... we can only hope
Though it's interesting to also see that the 442 could sink lower in terms of reputation after suffering on GatEx services.
@@MaverickHunterDaniel oh their limited reputation has been ruined by how badly they performed in the attempts to refurbish them. SWR spent too much time and money trying to make the enthusiasts happy, and they need to learn by now that's a bad idea
I certainly didn't like how they were to ride on post refurb. I just wish they just kept with SWT throughout the years.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-oh wait, wrong reaction. Awwww, that's a real shame. All that money to reconfig the 458s, repaint and retraction the 442s for nothing. Hopefully someone will grab a hold of a pair to keep preserved but I guess that's aiming too high.
also a shame that the 460s will have gone to nothing. Who knows, some company could have used them 🤔

Good units these are. It'll be a shame when they are replaced as they are unique and nice. Even if they look a bit odd
As long as the 701 has better toilets, air con and passable seating, I won't mind too much.
@@MaverickHunterDaniel It's a big waste IMO. Considering the metro fleet (eg 455, 456, 458/5 and 707) have had their disability mods and refurbishments done not too long ago. Ah well, I hope these units find homes elsewhere. Southeastern are having 707s for their metro fleet so that's a start I guess. The rest could maybe see service in Scotland (because they have a similar juniper fleet of 334s) and maybe north could convert 455s and 456s into bi modes like they are doing with the 319s.

It's a service called Railmiles. It allows you to track your total mileage and trains you ride on. It's a paid service but pretty good if you use the railway frequently.

What is your beef with Birmingham?
Albeit exaggerated a bit in these videos, but I don't like it's overall atmosphere and environment from the several times I've been there. It's extremely grim in places.

Well, dont make a review on the whole aventras as the 701 alongside with 710, 720, 345 and maybe the 730 will use Uncomfortable Iron board seats. On the 720, 730 will bring 3+2 ironing board seating. the 710 if i am wrong diamond longitudinal seats, the 345 has interior combination 2+2 and longitudinal seats

Why....why would you reduce a trains top speed , thats like the ultimate crime, the acceleration is still kinda off though, unless drivers just like a train that crawls and domt actually try to accelerate.
Again, to stop overheating the motors since they run on routes that seldom reach 70mph, let alone 100. The regearing means they can improve acceleration and traction at lower speeds.
@@MaverickHunterDaniel I know,but it's just kinda ehhh. Lol just prefer it it was at its original given a few mods to reduce the heating if that is possible but I guess it's good for what it does.
