But there are many questions I often get asked related to the ingredients I use, where to place it, and what happens when the materials get wet.     We put ashes in a tire for a dust bath. They would stand on the tire and look at it. Two days later it rained, now the hens stand on it to stay away from the rooster just like they do on the kids riding toys and slides n stuff we have in their pens and runs.
    It definitely needs to be in a dry location. We try to keep them happy!

    My chickens will not use the dust bath I put in for them. How do I get them using it ?

    What about charcoal ash?

      The only ash that is safe to use is from clean burnt wood.

    can someone tell me the best kind of soil to use please

      You don’t need to put soil in the dust bath, I usually just put DE and Wood ash. The most important ingredient in the dust bath is either DE or Wood ash, because that is what kills the mites and fleas and things off of the chickens.
