Like yourself we are well stocked on candles, battery lights, hot water bottles, blankets etc, my cooker can be lit with a match if there’s no electric, luckily we have a log burner if the heating goes off, my hubby had to replace my 95 year old neighbours bathroom light bulb, she didn’t even have a spare light bulb! If the power went out I’d give her a battery lamp and hot water bottle because I would never forgive myself if she had an accident with a candle, we’ve got flasks too so we can help her with hot drinks, hopefully your neighbours will equip themselves for future emergencies, it’s surprising how “laid back” some people have become and don’t prepare for different scenarios.

A great reminder to us all Jill. Thank you. Last year my boiler was out of action for over a week so no heating or hot water. Thankfully i am a bit of a prepper & my spare room is pretty well stocked for emergencies. I have an electric cooker but im lucky to have a Jackery & in case of a long power cut i have a one ringed hot plate & kettle that will run off the Jackery. In rural Australia we can have 'memorable' blackouts, with some lasting up to a week. We are fortunate to have 2 different BBQ's. One uses bottled gas and the other wood or charcoal. We go camping in the Outback so we have small portable cookers, lanterns and torches, 2 small solar panels and a small generator.
Like you we have candles and lighters. We also have a spirit stove and wind-up torches and spare bed covers. It’s always the cat I worry about most! We do have hot water bottles too, so we should stay warm enough.
Hi Jill, I'm quite prepared for lights out or shtf situation, but I could probably do with some more food to put into storage. My partner always tops up her t bag a couple of times. I have a lamp that can wind up and can charge a mobile too. ❤️🙏👍👌🤠
That reminded me of a storm we had recently, and I was prepared by 3 small battery-operated lanterns - but I have seen the rechargeable ones on Temu for $3.00 and I got one in case of emergency soon to be delivered to trial out. I was out of power for 4 hours till they reconnected it.
I knew you'd be ready for anything.👍😄 Can't believe your neighbor was so I'll prepared when the news keeps talking about outages. We have lots of blankets but rarely use them in our climate. It was raining when my plane landed last night and has been raining on and off all day today. I think we'll need a blanket tonight. Blessings.💗🌺

Those power banks are very useful. I'm planning to get a solar power bank. I have many candles and torches. My lights for the bike are very strong as well and those I would find very easily. Stay warm and have a nice evening.
What a smart idea to plug a lamp into a power bank! We have a couple power banks but I’ve never thought to use them for lighting before, I will have to check if we have any usb lamps. We don’t get frequent power outages here but we have candles and flashlights, and a gas fireplace that warms the house up nicely. We’ve never needed to use it to warm food or water, but I’m sure we could in a pinch.
What’s your forecast for the next few days? The snow might miss us down here, but they’re still forecasting -10c wind chill. My friend was hopeless. She never had ANY food in the house - she’d call in at the shop on the way home from work for her evening meal, and she didn’t eat breakfast, so she couldn’t even have a bowl of cereal in an emergency. Whenever she was sick for a few days, she’d ring me up and I’d have to take food and cat food round. Used to drive me nuts!
Yes I’ve a couple of friends like that ..forecast 2 & 3s through the day, night -4 & -5… might miss the snow. Stay warm. Snuggle up to mr worm and the 🐈 🐈
