    Since no one else has mentioned Cyrus, I wanted to say how heroic that little boy was. He held onto Charley's arms as long as he could and screamed for help. He could have just run away, and Charley would have died. Imagine a tug-o-war between a little boy versus a 13-foot crocodile! Way to go, Cyrus! There are no losers in this story.

    My sister was the Physicians Assistant (not nurse) with trauma experience who cared for Charlie that night and I was one of the adults surrounding Charlie holding the flashlight. I saw what happened and called my sister to come help. She jumped into action and she was a true hero that evening.
    Apparently, Charlie received amazing care at the hospital in Cancun and they are a big reason why he recovered so well. Charlie is an amazing little boy with the most loving family.
    So many people were put in the right place at the right time that night to save Charlie. ❤

      I mean it's instinct and group drive / mob mentality.
      If the first 2-3 guys jump in to pummel a crocodile you will most likely follow automatically / by instinct, to join the party. Then others follow you, etc etc, for a big 'ol real life boss-raid. ( big game hunt ) It's not every day you get an opportunity for it, too.

      What does saving a child have to do with patriotism? If you're implying that they saved the child because he was of the same nationality, that is pretty messed up. People should help others regardless of the country of origin, especially when in a foreign country. Also, you are wrong. People's propensity for kindness and helping others does not depend on whether they have a family or not.

    The most shocking thing about this story is how many people were totally selfless and did the right thing without hesitation. I’ve heard so many stories where no one helps the person in danger, the hotel or cruise line tries to cover up the incident to save face, avoids paying for anything without lengthy legal battles. Everyone in this situation did what decent human beings should do in this situation. Sadly, that’s a rarity.

    • @Trenchcoat3
      @Trenchcoat3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      I dont think its all that rare really, just negativity sells better typically.
      Humans are social animals after all, and the instinct to protect the young is especially strong. I actually think people are more likely to respond in situations like this because it’s simple and clear cut. Where as with many situations involving humans I think people hesitate because the situation is far more difficult to assess. Who is the aggressor and who is the victim? Even if one is clearly attacking the other without knowing what they did moments before it is hard to tell if the attack is justified. Is the aggressor armed? What’s the situation I’ve walked in on?
      Meanwhile a croc vs kid is instantly assessable and instinct kicks in.

    I'm so glad everyone survived. I can't imagine the mother's thoughts after hearing that her son was being attacked by a crocodile. And I can't imagine the trauma that experience would have left on the kids there. Those brave adults who fought the croc off are absolute legends.

      Seriously! It’s one thing to hear the story, but literally imagine it right now. Your BABY in the mouth of a freaking crocodile getting shredded apart screaming and you feel so helpless that you can’t protect your child while you’re grabbing him watching him go through something sooo gory & gruesome. It is fucking shocking that people actually experience things like this! This is a whole other level of terror. Idk wth I would do. This is horrifying. I’d rather it be done to me 10x over than for it to be done to my child, let alone in FRONT of me! I can only imagine the adrenaline everyone had and the trauma. I love how all the adults who weren’t even related to the boy hopped in in a heartbeat to save him. I guess it’s also kinda weird to say I almost felt bad for the crocodile getting beat so bad 😭I’m way too much of an animal lover. Obviously I would’ve beat the hell out of the croc too but I can’t help but to feel bad that he got beat. It would be different though if he were human & not a croc doing what crocs do.

The 4 adults: who jump into croc infested waters without hesitation to save a young boy. The trauma nurse: who assisted Charlie until paramedics arrived and was probably a big reason why they were able to save his leg. The hospital doctors and nurses: who literally saved his life and his leg. Club Med: for responding to the situation the way they did. And finally Charlie: who was extremely brave and handled a croc attack like a boss. Well done all of you!

Nurses, pharmacy staff, caregivers... these are the one's that have to deal with the worst aspects, from all sides: patient's, doctors/specialists, insurance. Attitudes, ego's, ever-changing laws and regulations... you HAVE to have thick skin, or just be wired different, to make it for long. 😏

    Instead of being traumatized like how people normally would have felt after a horrible experience he just moved on, learned from it and even made that awful experience his inspiration for his Halloween costume.
    Kudos to those wonderful people who helped him despite being aware of the danger that was present in front of them.

    It's refreshing to hear a story from the talented Mr. Ballen where the main victim survives. Even though I can't even imagine what everyone was going through at the time of the attack and slightly afterwards, I am glad that Charlie made light of the situation by dressing up as a crocodile for Halloween.

    Dear Mr Ballen,
    You are so highly deserving of your present and continued success. You are the campfire story teller in a time when we could all use your vivid story telling, always taking something valuable away like an Aesop’s fable. Much MUCHHHH love to you and yours 💕

    Everyone is already acknowledging the adults but I think Cyrus deserves props as well for keeping his friend above water long enough for the adults to reach them and also for alerting them in the first place. Everyone truly did their part.

    • @itsmedelaney4285

      I came to say the same thing. Not to take away from the amazing adults… but for another child to hang on as long as he did knowing there’s a giant croc on the other end that could easily pull him in too is beyond courageous. A lot of kids would have froze from fear or hauled ass. Not that anyone would blame a child for reacting in such a way. Had Cyrus not been so brave the croc would have been long gone with Charlie before the adults even had a chance to react.
      I hope I never find myself in a situation anything like this but if I do, I would hope to have the courage & quick thinking like Cyrus & all the others. ♥️

    Truly an epic story. So used to bad endings and such. I cannot say I would ever hear of a few adults jumping into a croc nest to beat up a croc. And to hear the kid had the humor to dress up as a croc after that happened, truly the best outcome of an otherwise horrible and deadly situation.

    • @gnarthdarkanen7464
      @gnarthdarkanen7464 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Consider that at 13 feet, you're looking at 900 to 1000 pounds of crocodilian terror... and a "mama" to boot (with a nest) either in defense or to provide for her young... yeah, that's going to be a handful. ;o)

The fact that all these adults just leapt to that kid's rescue and didn't hesitate at all, the fact that he survived and maintained a good sense of humor against all odds... I just broke down.
