Man, hearing you talk about Dead Prez Mos Def, and Talib Kweli takes me back to the artists I loved and still love. I saw Kweli and Dead Prez open for Dilated Peoples. Something happened to the sound so Kweli just went freestyle/acapella until they got it working again. Such a great concert. Saw Mos Def back during that time as well. Also an amazing concert. Explains also so well why we luv a movie, a painting, a song, a poem, etc - it makes deep sense to us & gets us engaged - we're in a sense a part of the crestion. And, y the best art doesnt "try" to be understood. It jus trust that some1 will get it as long as feeling & emotion are expressed thoughtfully - as long as the artist, the creator, shows us they "get it." Good stuff man. Thank you.

GREAT video as always. You can see why Kanye likes working with Ken Lewis. That level of attention to detail and dedication is exactly how Kanye thinks and works too.
He got this channel on lock. So good here. Greatly appreciated
Amazing channel ! I personally can attest that mechanical licensing is the way. I did it to John Williams’ “the March” (superman theme). We were gonna bootleg it. I called the CMRRA Here in Canada.. it was a last chance shot in the dark .. and due to the fact I time stretched certain notes to change the scaling tempo to be time synced they said it counted as a reproduction!! I got to put my name on it “Vinyl Syndicate” and the song name “Man of Steal” (as in yoinked) . The % to Warner/Tamerlane was micro.
Stopped listening to new music. So I’m stuck on the old, listening to old songs got me feeling like a producer. This is my type of channel
Same! I’ve been trying to figure out why is that? I’m stuck in a certain decade and I feel like music the sound is self has changed and I think I’m trying to figure out what the change is. However, I’m happy where I am I try to listen to the stuff right now being played and I’m just like it sounds soweird to me I don’t know
@@nattyrocberry even if most songs now are still sample, feel like it’s lost it soul. Not true to the original no feeling. I find myself enjoying covers than what’s on the radio, or live music that evolves. Guess we the old people who hate new music now
@@FupaDoncic say it isn’t soooooo 😅. But I’ve got a old soul even when I was younger I was listening to music that was older than me. I think it’s like a musical thing you know like I like the wrongness of music I like to hear horns and I like to hear saxophones, and I like to hear Percussion and on the radio the music sounds so muddled you can’t really figure out what instrument is being played. If that makes sense also, the sound and crisp of the voice sounds a little flat to me
@@nattyrocberry you sound like a person whose gonna collect high quality first release Vinyls 🤣 it’s too late. But yeah I get it. The intricacies of music. Why I like live renditions of some classical. Even the slightest strum or press of note can set the whole tone.
This was genius. Shi shud win some award or somethin - im serious - top level content. There's jus so much packed in here. In 16 min. Compelling stuff.
And jus filled with info - seems like dead prez affected u too - cuz the 16min blew by. Like some1 here wrote - you really get this hiphop shi - the power of what it is but also what it can be. And wow yes good art is abstract & distilled. And wow yes it's us who puts it all together from the bits & pieces - if the artist does their part well & compels us to. Thank you.
I spent decades in the studio digging in the crates. I came up with Justice League in Tampa Florida. Some of the best producers in Hip hop history. I say that to say, this channels is refreshing, Thank you for your work documenting the culture.
Upon hearing this song, I was already hip to the unplugged joint, so i was amazed at the level of creation.
a channel like yours was needed for so long, amazing work as always!
What an incredible voice she has, and makes it seem effortless.
"I've been working with Kanye since 2001 or 2002 before he was an artist or anyone knew he wanted to be an artist". Nevermind the fact that he was already rappin and producing including on the infamous syndicate album in 99
Great content as always! Ken Lewis is not talked about enough, He is the mastermind behind a lot of great music in general.
Not on this record. He wasn’t even there when the guitars were done, at Ye house. Ask me how I know
@@taneishal Right, me and my 114 gold records and my dozens of Kanye West credits am lying. I didn't know i needed more credits, or even more Kanye credits, i've already worked on so damn many of his hits. thanks for schooling me
@@KenLewisProducer nobody is asking about any of your "114 gold records" on this post. i for one, am only concerned about this one. So when you can speak openly and honestly about this particular one, then you and I can have a conversation. As a matter of fact, who you really need to speak to is Eric "EBASS" Johnson. I'm sure ya'll have something to discuss. Don't come for me. I'm not impressed by none of your accolades lol. Your response is one of someone who thinks that because he may be considered a "celebrity", everyone will be impressed by that. lol. Not me hun. I'm an unknown and I LOVE it that way. Just do the right thing. Karma is a B@#ch!!
So glad I found your channel. You’re actually helping me appreciate hip hop more with your breakdowns. Subscribed!
Great video as always!!!!!
The lyrics to this song honestly puts life into perspective..i quote the benz line all the time..truly a masterpiece
Thanks God for you and this channel, so worth our time
This is the best channel that TH-cam could have
This is the best music channel on maybe the entire internet
Commenting for the algorithm, great work as always sir
Mr. West is a gifted musician with exceptional musical talent.
Not surprised Lauryn Hill wouldn’t clear the sample, Unplugged is quite the album and I wouldn’t want anyone using it either
Agreed! Ironic though - when she performs it live now, the intro is much more like All Falls Down, so it's like a nod to the interpolation
It did get cleared on A$AP Rocky’s song Purity off of his 2018 album though. Sampled Peace of Mind off of the MTV album. One of my favorites
God this whole album is just so special
I’d love to hear you break down a few Dr. Dre songs, he’s also known for using interpolation to get around sample clearance from what I (kinda) recall
Kanye delivering the song like slam poetry is iconic
✔️😍🥰🤩💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Another great video. Clicked on this being certain I knew pretty much everything on Kanye, but I could listen to you explain things forever! I always feel like I learn more when I watch your videos. Thank you legend! 😄
I feel like this is my favorite episode so far, and I've benched yo videos - I absolutely love College Dropout, but that's not why I think it's my favorite episode. It's the way you execute and explain, the interview, the editing.. Great work!
The guitars were actually done by Eric “EBASS” Johnson. Not Ken. So he didn’t “dig” deep enough

I love your breakdowns bro
Thanks so much for all your work! I love it!
I remember they were playing the Lauryn Hill version on HOT97 b4 the album was released. Memories 🙃
Just found this chanel. Youre doing an amazing job! Would love to see a video about MF Doom
DTG Cocktail - take one larger than life music journalist. Add a pint of charisma, a litre of knowledge and bucket of intelligence. Some decks, a kick ass bass and pads. Remove any ego and bullsh*t. Upload and enjoy massively.
I enjoy every one of these. Thank you again from one of your fans from the UK.
This is Dr Dre’s secret sauce for all the samples on 2001. Interpolation!!!
Great video
Allowing that album to be the loudest, cleanest hip hop album of its era!
The Chipmunk Pop Up killed me!! haha...Another masterclass video!! Kanye is such an understood dude, but one thing is for certain, he's a musical genius.
I love the depth you go into with these subjects.
Gotta do it right for the music 🔥
I thank youtube for recommending this video on my page.
This was one of the greatest rap songs of all time.
Fuck this is beautiful. “All falls down” is one of my favorites on the album. Great breakdown my friend.
What an amazing video!! You outdid yourself again, and getting an interview with Ken Lewis to top it all off 🔥
Stay tuned - more coming soon 🔥
I didnt realize it was this guy doing the video but when i saw him i was like " ohh thish dude be knowing everything" i really like your videos bro
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS, YOU HAVE RESPECT FOR THE CULTURE!!!!!!!
You have a really good way of explaining things, from Kanye to Pantera. There’s certain notes that make it palatable.
Yeah he is a creative genius of the likes of Mozart and Beethoven, he got a Nobel prize for inventing leather jogging pants 😂
Your content is so good! Superbly researched and captivatingly presented!
Has to be the best music history channel on TH-cam. Thank You.
