    Good morning Jamie. Filming the people filming? I hope you brought your ladder!😅
    That train whistle sounds like a donkey bray!

      Good evening Dennis! I've gotta get Calvin to hook me up with a ladder fire truck, no railfan will ever block me again lol! I propose we start a GoFundMe to get 9167 a new horn too. And gotta love that instant justice for the impatient driver.

    Were those RDC's once used on diesel routes to Philly from Pottsville, Reading/Pottstown, Bethlehem/Quakertown until summer 1981? Did they acquire a few more to use? Reading Tech has a few on the Temple-South Hamburg line that were once Reading, then Conrail/SEPTA then went to the T in Boston and demotored and used as diesel hauled coaches. There were so many vintage coaches preserved including older steel open window coaches like the RBMN has, and other tourist railroads. The WK&S in Kempton has a few ex-Reading open window coaches and a combine that were once used on the Reading Rambles from 1959 to 1964 and might have been behind #2102 at times. The WK&S started in 1963 though but the Rambles were extended through 1964 due to demand. I'm glad that the #2102 returned to Reading in August 1985 from Ohio and stayed in PA and Andy Muller bought it. There were four Iron Horse Rambles with #2102 from the BM&R's new Temple Station in Sept. 1985 and went onto Conrail and went to Philly, Harrisburg, and Jim Thorpe. BM&R had more off line excursions in fall 1987 and 1988 as well as 425 excursions from Hoboken, NJ to Port Jervis, NY in 1986 and 2102 excursions in 1987, with the PRR E8's and Reading diesel along. It's a shame that some of those excursions in the 1980's can never be repeated again, mainly because of NS being against excursions again, as well as Amtrak and most of R&N's equipment is not suitable for NS because of friction journal bearings and openable windows. Open windows are a big liability for class 1's since the 90's but no problem for R&N on their own tracks. NS had steam excursions again from Sept 2011 to May 2017 and the coaches were mostly streamlined coaches with roller bearings from the 40's and 50's and some were painted for NS and some were rented from various parties. The August 22, 23, 2015 excursions with 765 from near Bethlehem to Pittston went over NS (former Conrail) and RBMN tracks.

      Reading & Northern now has 6 RDCs. 3 are operational - 1 should be operational soon, 1 needs a lot of work, and 1 unfortunately looks like it'll just be for spare parts.

    VRF has at least ONE Darwin in ALL of their videos.......the ones that crack me up are in La Grange, where CSX has street trackage.............

      @JamieMakin  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Darwins are always fun yet cringeworthy on the VRF videos. I can't believe how stupid people act around trains!

  • @paulsmith5398
    @paulsmith5398 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    As for the Darwins......the town north of where i live has a boulevard style RR crossing, with 2 sets of "quad gates", and Amtrak zips through there PDQ. Its impossible to be a Darwin there, as the PD is right on the corner, waiting for them!

      Lol I should set up a camera at that crossing!

      Thanks so much! This is one of the best chases I've ever done. I know I keep saying that, lol, but they really do keep getting better. This was a lot of new mileage and locations for me, and it was great getting better acquainted with the anthracite coal region which is such a cornerstone of railroad history here.

    Hello Jamie. So glad you chased this! You did an amazing job getting all these shots. What an incredible experience to ride this train.
    On May 25th the Shamokin Valley railroad will be running two trains at the anthracite heritage festival in Shamokin. One goes north and one goes south to where this ride ended. I rode the south bound train last year. It was a lot of fun. I think 2102 is running the same day so not sure if you can do both. I'm trying to grab a ride on the northbound train this year.
    Anyway, great job on this one Jamie. I've been chomping at the bit waiting to see what you caught and you didn't disappoint. Take care 🙂

      How often does North Shore do train rides on their branches, do they use the PRR painted open window coach set and caboose with one or two of their diesels? But this Reading and Northern excursion, it went on rare mileage past Mahanoy City which hasn't had any passenger trains on it since the 90's I believe. I was on a photo freight that went to Blaschak's Coal past Mahanoy City and a second photo freight toward Hazleton which is also rare mileage. The excursion on June 22 is the first for 2102 north of the Jim Thorpe bridges onto the Lehigh Line. It sold out already last month but tickets for the other two are available.

      @@robkrasinski6217I am not certain of other North Shore branches but the Shamokin Valley does this once a year. Last year it was an engine on each. They do use PRR coaches but no caboose.

      Thanks so much @kevinsalsbury2118! I really enjoyed this chase, definitely one of my best. I know I started the day disappointed I wasn't riding, but by the end of it I was actually glad to be chasing. I had heard about those North Shore rides and looked into it, but it's too far out of the way to fit in on the same day as a 2102 chase. A shame they picked that day to do them.

      @robkrasinski6217 I've never been out to North Shore before, so I'm not sure how often they run or what rolling stock they have.

      @@JamieMakinMaybe next year for the North Shore excursion. 2102 is definitely a more exciting chase. Have a great night Jamie!

    Next time, the R&N should run their RDCs onto the Shamokin Valley Railroad's line in the future!

    • @JamieMakin
      @JamieMakin  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That would be fun, but I'm not sure if it's doable.

    Awesome Video Jamie! Love those RDCs, It was nice to see a change of scenery as well! I know their horns stand out from your regular deisel, but Lord, some of their horns sound so ear piercing not in a good way 😂! But thats what makes em different! Awesome video!

    Nice catch. Yeah That driver shouldn't ran that crossing cause it was on a blind cruve. Even going slow. I rather wait.

      Thanks! Yeah, that driver was foolish for sure. It was satisfying to see them get instant justice, and hopefully they'll make wiser decisions in the future.
