When you said “YOU CAN DO THIS !” My heart felt so full, I have no idea why you give me such good vibes but you really do. I’m not painting a wall or doing any home improvement at all, I’m a 26 yr old female who isn’t even allowed to paint where I live (apartment/landlord rules) so I stumbled across this video out of curiosity and I’m really glad someone like you is on TH-cam helping so many people. Bless you, you’re too sweet
Leah, I've been watching your videos for 6 years now. And today is the day I have tell you, your fabulous! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Never ever stop being YOU!
You know, leah has the most encouraging and sweetest personality. I'm redoing my kitchen and came across her videos due to my torn sheet rock. These videos are short, to the point, but detailed enough to give you understanding. I was scared to take on such a huge project myself, but leah said I could so I know I can.
Oh my goodness! Leah you are awesome!!! This is as easy as you said. I practiced on a board with premixed joint compound. I put the compound in a paint tray and got the roller saturated. I rolled it on evenly and just eyeballed it for even coverage; it's very forgiving. I took the damp crows foot and rolled it just like you did. I have a 75 year old house and the walls are....well 75 years old. I just saved a fortune by not putting in new drywall. I applied mIne going down a basement stairway and the peaks are kind of sharp and pointy. I just very, very lightly laid a large drywall scraper on it and let the weight of the scraper do the work. I went down it in vertical strips from top to bottom. It snaps off just the pointy parts off but keeps the ridge detail. I just saved a fortune and it is gorgeous! SO happy.
I just used this technique to finish up a drywall project. I am very happy with the results. I usually rent a texture machine. With this technique I have more control and more design options over the end result. Great video. Very well done.
I wish I could give this more than just one "like". You are making so many things reachable that were once unreachable. Thank you for everything, Leah.
You're my favorite person ever!!!!!! I to have a ceiling repaired and the contractor said they couldn't do the texture because it was too old of a pattern to mimic. It's the crows feet pattern! Now i can fix all the patches they put on my ceiling! thank you!
It shouldn't matter who teaches you as long as you are taught well. I had all males teach me how to build engines and repair automatic transmissions. The student was better than the teacher. Soak up knowledge from all brilliant people
!!!!SUBSCRIBED!!!! After the hurricane on the Texas Gulf Coast this past August, I am redoing my main bathroom (and most of my walls). I had to remove 4 feet of drywall all the way around, replace, then match the texture. You are amazing and so helpful! So glad I came across your channel in my diy search. I have found I haven't needed to search other channels because you have had all the tutorials I've needed. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP! Will definitely be a regular on your channel.
Thank you! I recently removed some unsightly wood panel from my living and dining rooms and have been in search of an inexpensive way to repair my walls. You just gave me great inspiration!
As a runner who is training for a marathon, these foam rollers th-cam.com/users/postUgkx9XSsjzA4f84VmhBCHlyhec7XILIxennL are really good for sore and tight muscles. This one is a good size (mine is the purple, 36 inches) not too big but big enough to work and roll both my legs at the same time - I took a photo holding the roller next to me just to provide a better representation of its size. I noticed some reviewers who complained that this is, “just a foam noodle”… and yes, that’s exactly what it is. It’s a high density foam roller. It is absolutely NOT the same consistency/strength/durability/ or texture as a ‘pool noodle’ thought and I disagree entirely with those that say so. As a former collegiate athlete and marathon runner, I’m comfortably giving this roller 5 stars. It’s lightweight and durable and does just what I need it to do at a budget-friendly price. Overall, I have no complaints and am happy with it!
I'm always drawn to your videos even when I'm looking up someone else's demonstration. You're such a good teacher and I just love your personality. You seem to be the patient loving aunt or grandma everyone would love to have 😀 I wish I lived next door to you!
Oh my gosh! You have taught me soooo many things! The best thing I ever did was follow your videos! You're awesome and you explain it to where literally ANYONE can do it! Thank you!
Going through Hurricane Harvey repairs and you have inspired us !! You are amazing !! I’m feeling much more hopeful about our walls !! Thank you..thank you !!
You are awesome! I run a painting company and I make a point to watch one educational video a day, expand knowledge of technique and products - and your channel is a great place to find them.
Jane, you really do a great job of teaching this stuff. Your communication skills are excellent. It's close to impossible to misunderstand what you are saying and that is so refreshing and nice.
This is so helpful!! My husband and I have a stairway that is newly drywalled. We are trying to figure out how to use a hopper to create texture before we paint. Your technique looks far easier. The rest of the house has ugly walls because it is actually a trailer house we turned into a permanent home. We took the slats off the seams between the dry wall panels of the home and tried our best to make a smooth surface. The thin dry wall panels did not match up and there is significant change of the angels of the panels plus gaps between them. I think we could go back over the walls with this technique and cover up a lot of UGLY. Thanks!
I have watched alot of diy videos because I have inherited a few rentals over the last few years. you are the easiest to follow and understand. I greatly appreciate it. especially since I'm a single female.
Yeah I made a big mess on my tape job and I've been watching her videos on how to hide/fix it. I find myself watching her videos just for fun. She's so enjoyable.
Thank you so much Leah. Easy to understand techniques and in lay(wo)men's terms! You give many of us confidence that we never knew we had. Have a 100 year old house that I've just started renovating and your videos are very helpful.
My time has come to use texturing in my home. Leah, your vids rock. To the point and easy to understand, both the content and your presentation. I don't need fancy background music to learn a process. Thank you for the videos.
Thank you for demonstrating this technique. We just purchased a new home with the crows foot pattern on the ceilings. There’s water damage that needs to be repaired, and the crows foot pattern redone on the repaired portion. Up until your demonstration video, I had no idea how to apply the same texture and pattern on the repaired sections.... Now I do thanks to you & your video...👍😊
I love those different textured rollers which could be used to apply the texture on walls, and ceilings. You always show great videos on doing different jobs, and this one is great also, and one which I will probably be using in one house we have to get taken care of since part of the ceiling fell. I thank you so much for your help as always, and hope you all are having a nice weekend.
thank you Sidney! I hope you are having a nice spring...it has been very rainy here in the Pacific Northwest...how has the weather been in your neck of the woods?
“This is called tree bark, this isn’t my favorite but it could be yours! What do ya think ? “ lol your too sweet, it makes me happy to watch such nice people just doing basic stuff and genuinely sounding like they’re enjoying themselves !
Thanks, I'm getting close to matching the texture of a flooded room that I replaced the lower 24 inches. It's a knockdown. My first attempt. Thank you for your videos. They are of great quality and so helpful.
Thank you for the information. I ended up buying the vine pattern for my remodel. I have textured 2 closets that I built so far, and your videos have helped. I'm glad to see we are getting similar results. I hear people saying that texture is out of date, but I really like it and plan to do my whole house, as I'm doing paint and flooring at this time.
You're my go-to-maintenance when I really want or need to understand or learn something new! Love your videos! You have a big fan right here! You're fabulous! 🔨🛠🔩🛠
I love to watch how skilfully you do all manner of things. Before I tackle a job now, I look to see if you have got a video on the subject first. Keep up the very good work.
Thank you, my friend, for taking the time to make this video! I'm a journeyman plumber by trade so anything out of that realm I'm hesitant about but with great videos like yours I can mud and texture. I used to frame years ago so I'm very familiar with that. With other areas like electrical I can look up pictures, diagrams etc. But mudding is my Achilles heel!! I'm so picky and a perfectionist I probably go through more mud and tape than I should (from redo to trying to get the smoothness I want.) Thanks again! Good luck to all!
Good video. I did something like that years ago when I took down a popcorn ceiling. I couldn't get a nice smooth finish on the ceiling so just went over it with a long-nap roller and it looked good (something like your initial roll-on with the 1/2" nap roller).
You are so amazing!! I love your videos; they are ALL very explanatory, easy to comprehend and common-sense based!! I can tell you have a high IQ, but tone it down for us and empower viewers to feel confident about approaching new tasks for home improvements. I have learned so much from you and appreciate you VERY, VERY MY MUCH!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
I’ll be attempting to match an existing ceiling texture. I realized pretty quick it was rolled with some consistent pattern. Never knew these existed (neither did HD or Lowe’s). Your video helped me figure out it was the basket weave! I sanded down about two roller widths of old texture (had a small repair). Will do some tests to find right consistency for the mud, but should be able to get pretty close 😮😊
I have been searching everywhere to find out what pattern I have in my house. Just to find out it that all they used in my house was a good ole 1/2"-3/4" paint roller... Thank you Jane!
Thanks for sharing, very helpful. I’m doing my basement in a few weeks and I didn’t even know these rollers were available. I’ve always just troweled with previous basements. Thanks again!
Oh, my gosh how have I missed you all this time? I have a ceiling that's close to a disaster and the rollers saved the day...and the room. You are amazing with your incredibly thorough and patient descriptions! Can't wait to go through everything. thank you so much
Thank you so much, you make it so doable my son just buy his first house and of course he's on a budget like all of this and we removed some paneling really not that bad but we cannot find anyone to texture his walls you gave us the confidence that we can do it I have watched several of your videos this morning and subscribe to your Channel thank you so much Denise Cox and my son Shelby Cox
I'm sooooo glad I just watched this!!! I was so frustrated today trying to do the vine patter on my wall, I'm a bit OCD so I was obsessing over getting the patter to look perfect and perfectly even all over. Plus I didn't know about getting the roller damp! I'll try again tomorrow. Thank you!!!
when I bought my house in 85 the basement had unsightly drywall where you could see all types of imperfections even the wood slats that they nailed the drywall to. at that time I bought some kind of mud compound that was already pre-mixed it took lots and lots of pails and I had some kind of a plastic roller that had Loops in it to make a pattern that covered up all the imperfections my basement still looks nice after doing it no cracking or anything after all these years. as always Leah you have fantastic tips
Wow...thanks Leah, now seeing this video I know I can do it. Just finished taking off the popcorn texture and that too Made me nervous, but after I finished I was so proud of myself considering my age over 60. Lol. But now I'm sure I can handle the texture as well. Again, thank you so much.
Thank you Jane. I am building our house (first time) and have been looking for a better way than the hopper method so I don't have to cover all of our knotty pine tongue and groove walls with plastic. I think if I am careful and take my time, this will work out great. Thank you for the very informative video.
Would be nice to see you use these texture rollers followed with a knockdown. I saw this on a wall and it looked fantastic. I think it looked great because it appeared to be a minimal texture - or maybe a strong knockdown to minimize the effect. Perfect to hide wall inconsistencies - damage - art hanging nail holes - etc.
REALLY enjoying your vlogs! I like that you explain everything so clearly as you do it. Sometimes it's difficult to visualize directions that are given before actually seeing the process. (if that makes sense) Thanks so much for sharing, take good care of you and yours.
One of the things I always hated about texturing was the spray you have to mask everything off. I've been in construction for quite a few years but texturing was never really things that I got into it was mostly the building in the woodwork. This really made my texture job go well I use the basket weave roller but to add another degree of detail I used a 3/16 v-notched trowel and traube the mud once I got it on the wall then let it sit for a few moments and then roll it with the deal and it added a whole new level of detail it's really nice thank you for your videos!
Awesome demo. How do I mix the premixed joint compound with the water? In what kind of container? I’m not finding a video for that. Texturing for dummies. Thanks Leah. I can do this thanks to you!!
This will help me tackle a project of 10 years in the making. I have damage walls in my bathroom from wallpaper that the previous owners tried to cover up (the walls had dents and it’s so uneven. I’m guessing that’s why they put wallpaper in the first place). Since I was a previous broke college student, I was not trying to pay a professional so i left it as is until now. It’s time to tackle it while I have time on my hands due to Covid! Many thanks! 💕
Thank you! You know, I just had to check out your channel...I have always wanted to learn how to fly-fish, ever since I saw the movie "A River Runs Through It".
Thanks for giving me hope for my bathroom walls. There was nasty wallpaper on the walls that I ripped off. Now I have ugly looking drywall. I'm going to try something like this! Thanks for the inspiration.
Awesome video Leah. How do I add color to the all purpose joint compound after completing the textured wall? Or can texture be added with regular paint using the special roller?
This looks a lot easier than hanging wallpaper! How long do you have after you apply the joint compound before you’ve got to do the textured roller? That is, if you’ve got a big wall, do you need to do a little at a time so it doesn’t dry out?
So I have a light colored wall (lite taupe) that’s getting stained from my handicapped fam member that leans on it, his dirty hands always holding on and scrapes with his projected elbow. I’d like to use a sponge like that on the wall with a dark bronze contracting color to add forgiveness to this stairwell wall. I don’t need the compound if I’m only painting a pattern? Thx you.
Hi Leah. I had to replace a 4x4 area of drywall in my kitchen. I just want to do this right. So I was going to use Kiltz primer over everything. Then go over with the whole area with the joint compound and texture roller. Correct? My ceiling has a texture and semi gloss paint on it. If this looks ok I have a living/dining area to do. Thanks for all your help. Owning a home you have saved me in all my projects and tools! - Thanks your neighbor from Tacoma.
Those edges and lap marks on the patches are going to show through the texture when it drys , remember unless you are using hot mud , all other mud , topping ,joint compound, all purpose etc. , they all shrink and those edges from the patch job are not going to shrink with the new applied mud . Think like a vacuum sealer and the mud is the bag any raised areas above the plane created by the original finished wall or ceiling will be easily noticeable even under a rolled on texture . We have a rule of thumb when finishing sheetrock for 99% of sprayed, rolled or hand textures and there are many of those textures you can get away with as little as applying tape to all the joints and 1 coat over all those seams and one coat on the screws ( nails may need 2 depending on how heavy the swing of the installer of the nails) before texture , but " No edges and No scratches" is the standard we hold to regardless of the number of coats or type of texture, ok if you are applying a texture as thick as the sheetrock, it might be cheaper to replace the sheetrock and avoid adding potentially thousands of pounds of extra weight to the walls and ceilings if a full renovation is needed. @3:17 you can see the edges of the patch clear as day in the fresh rolled on pattern from the texture roller , at this point the texture is at its highest possible plane off the surface of the sheetrock, now knocking the texture down only flattens the the highest parts of the texture from the base , if you can see the flaws before you knock down the texture the added step of the knocking down the peaks of the texture will not hide large edges or deep scratches , they are going to be right where you left them and show even more when the new texture drys.
Watched a lot of videos but this was the best. Totally understand how to do it now. The only thing that i wish she would have done is showed us how to mix the compound mix. I bought the Homax smooth hope it works the same. Thanks
We have super slick walls in the bathroom (it's a waterproof "paneling" but I'm not sure of the name of it) Next to impossible to paint , would this technique work on a surface like that? Love how straight forward you are!
Can you buy a texture roller at Lowe's or Home Depot? I guess I can research. I had to bump up my texturing the walls for paint to this week so the flooring can go in so no time to order. You made this look so easy. Thank you so much.
You have such a great way of talking/explaining things., have learned a lot even about things I had no previous interest in! lol Very people person personality!
Thank you! My air compressor quit working, and I've seen the crows foot roller, and was very curious to see the outcome. This would be great for my bathroom. Was going with the tree bark, but I'm really digging that crows feet roller. Very cool! 😁👍

Thanks for the tutorial. I have a wall just like this. Question: what about the edges where roller does not cover?
I'm sooooo glad I just watched this!!! I was so frustrated today trying to do the vine patter on my wall, I'm a bit OCD so I was obsessing over getting the patter to look perfect and perfectly even all over. Plus I didn't know about getting the roller damp! I'll try again tomorrow. Thank you!!!
you're welcome, Tracy, and good luck with your project!
when I bought my house in 85 the basement had unsightly drywall where you could see all types of imperfections even the wood slats that they nailed the drywall to. at that time I bought some kind of mud compound that was already pre-mixed it took lots and lots of pails and I had some kind of a plastic roller that had Loops in it to make a pattern that covered up all the imperfections my basement still looks nice after doing it no cracking or anything after all these years. as always Leah you have fantastic tips
Thanks Soulcommander
It's been like 20 years of me assuming textured rollers actually existed somewhere thank you!
Good luck with your project
Greetings from the NW. Another great video!! It's a pleasure watching your videos. Really enjoy what you do and how you do it! Thanks!
you're welcome, Al! We are in the NW as well....hello neighbor!
You make me smile! Thank you, i enjoy your videos so much!
So glad I found your channel, Leah!
(if that makes sense) Thanks so much for sharing, take good care of you and yours.
thank you Debbie, I appreciate it!
Great Video Thanks ,& What About Seams on New Green Board Do You Need To Tape Them First
Wowwwww that really looks amazing!!!! Will that work on stucco for the outside of the home.
Leah's videos; better than anything on netflix.. ;-)
Short to the point home improvement video is awesome 👏 you are inspiring!
Jane can you put your joint compound on your ceiling heavier by using a 1" nap roller?
Love her voice 😆 her accent is gorgeous. I’m Aussie so we love the accents 😍
Your explanations are exceptionally easily understood.
Thank you! You know, I just had to check out your channel...I have always wanted to learn how to fly-fish, ever since I saw the movie "A River Runs Through It".
@@seejanedrillthank you!!! Great movie, but they made it look more difficult and technical than it really is.
Thanks for giving me hope for my bathroom walls. There was nasty wallpaper on the walls that I ripped off. Now I have ugly looking drywall. I'm going to try something like this! Thanks for the inspiration.
Great job! You are a good teacher and I enjoyed watching this video!
You've inspired me to do this... can I where I can get the rollers?... Thank you again...
Nice demo Leah. I had half my living room ceiling replaced for water damage a few years ago & the guy used the Crow's foot pattern.
it's a nice pattern
seejanedrill that's exactly how mine was ruined..that and the person sanding.. I did no pattern hence very visible patches.n dents
Thanks

In this video I show how to mix the texture.
Thank you so much.
where can I find these rollers?
You have such a great way of talking/explaining things., have learned a lot even about things I had no previous interest in! lol Very people person personality!
thanks, Lana!
Do you come through afterwards and lightly skim to knock down the little sharp peaks? I would think those would start breaking off over time?
You can certainly do a knoc-down.
I love this professional and strong lady.
Love u ma'am.
Thank you!
My air compressor quit working, and I've seen the crows foot roller, and was very curious to see the outcome.
This would be great for my bathroom.
Was going with the tree bark, but I'm really digging that crows feet roller. Very cool! 😁👍
This looks really nice! My only concern is the edges where there is a noticeable lack of texture, how should this be remedied?
That’s a pretty interesting way to apply texture. Idk if I like that but I really enjoyed your video.
How do you texture into corners and to the very top of your wall where it meets the ceiling? It seems that you would leave gaps or flat spots.
How thin/soupy is the joint compound? Do you have to wait for it to set up any before rolling?
Yay🎉 sooooooo glad I found this channel !
Thank you. I bought all 4 patterns, will do different in each room.
