    Vibo was mostly known for making golf carts in the mid 60's, you can find them mentioned in vintage buyers guides for $800 new for 66/67. Unfortunately they were a build-to-order company resulting in impossible to find parts for the majority of the models nowadays. I don't believe anything was produced after the late 60's.

      I got bored and did some looking myself, can’t find anything about the utility carts like they found here, only the ones meant for golfers. Seems like their whole unique selling point at the time was the freewheeling capability and being able to be towed at highway speeds. President was apparently Bob Astley?

      Get the mechanical stuff in order, put some better off-road tires on it, and re-build/restore the exterior, and it would be a pretty neat run-around for the property. Not sure it would be worth the time and effort to do all that, though.

    I haven't had such a good laugh for years! I have a bit of information on this type drive system: It is a Comet type clutch system, and requires a C section drive belt, 1" wide. The wheels and tires are regular golf cart type, commonly sold already mounted. The tires and rims are available from Tractor Supply. Four lug trailer tires use the same pattern, and you can get them at TSC or Hobo Freight. So, If you want to jack it up, just change the tires. Some ATV tires also may fit it easily with the golf cart rims??

    • @Harey0407
      @Harey0407 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      As long as you can find the right width you should be able to find a set of atv tires that will fit. I have a machine that was at one point a lawn tractor and i put atv tires on the rear of it.

    I know I'm a year late... but just wanted to say that the VIBO was used as the go-to utility vehicle for golf courses back in the day. I worked as a caddy from 1959--62 in Virginia while in high school. We Would see these gems all around the golf course, carrying tools, lawn supplies, and other stuff for course maintenance and to rescue broken golf carts (and men). They were favored because they were very quiet and efficient, apparently requiring very little maintenance, and were able to zip around somewhere about 30-35 mph. Great memories.

    Also it caught my attention that the drive v-belt sits in the sheave grooves of the gear box side nicely, but just rides on the shaft of the motor side. 24:23 shows what I mean. The grooves seem way too spaced apart so you're not getting any grip on the motor side like you are on the gear box side. That's probably why its so gutless. and why it snapped; tons of slippage.

    • @brainndamage
      @brainndamage 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's supposed to be loose at idle, at the bottom of the motor pulley and up at the top of the driven pulley. When the motor speeds up, the shieves move together from a centrifugal mechanism inside one of the shieves, which tensions the belt and starts it moving. So the belt here is way too tight, it should almost be floppy.

    Other than that this is an awesome video keep up the good content my man I actually grew up with a 1960s early '70s era Cushman scooter it was quite a bit longer than that vivo and at some point in its life I don't know if they done this from the factory or not but it had a three-speed manual transmission and 4 cylinder engine from a station wagon from the '70s or '80s so someone done some hillbilly ingenuity with it but they done a good job never had any issues we could literally stand the front wheel up and ride that thing onto a tree yes I know why would you need to do that my question is why not try we owned a lot of three wheelers at that time and we had a big oak tree that was slightly slanted so we would always see how far we could drive up the trunk of the tree you know we're the generation that grew up knowing that three wheelers were banned because of how dangerous they were and then done even more dangerous s*** with them

    Seen one of these nearly 35 years ago on a Golf course near Little Rock in Arkansas! It is a Vibo, build in Des Moines In Iowa, a Company that build Golf caddy cars in the early 60.. that Beauty was a Golf Cours maintenance car from the green keeper, what he use to drive from green to green with the gras movers, clean the area and help golfers… not that much Infos are left for this company. Maybe you found out more! But hey, this is something to keep!

    How does that engine sound more like a golf cart then a golf cart?😂

  • @repairit1
    @repairit1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The bearing in the bottom of the primary clutch may be stuck as well, causing it to shift into gear hard. Also, harvesting the brake and throttle pedals/brackets from another golf cart might make this thing more user friendly.

    • @stevecharette4421
      @stevecharette4421 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's hard to get into gear because it has the wrong belt on it and it needs to be at an idle so the clutch isn't engaging.

    Mook is so pretty and seems so nice. Try using a emery board mean't for filing nails instead of sand paper for cleaning points. It works better and since the emery board is stiff cardboard you can cut it to a manageable length. I always keep a 3 inch piece in my wallet for emergencies. You would be surprised how many times it comes in handy! Plus emery boards are really cheap. Just ask the Mookster, she will know!

    Love to see old stuff like this get Phoenixed. A few years ago I salvaged an ZEZGo 850 4 stroke 1500 pound industrial cart similar to this that had been sitting for nearly 25 years - The orig owner had replaced the Robins engine with a similar Wisconsin. All I did was freed the steering, cut the brake hydraulics away and ran a couple of cables from the emerg brakes to the brake pedal, cut the mounting flange off the carb and made an adapter to accept an old Mikuni 250cc bike carb, replaced the fuel tank and battery, hit the starter and its been running ever since. I found pre-mounted 6 ply tires on sale at Northern for $200. It handily carries 25 fifty-pound feed bags on the original belt which is prob 45 years old.

      I've seen vehicles like this used by maintenance in parks and golf courses, so perhaps it was made for that. Its a lot like the carts used in airports, although they are usually electric. Maybe back in the 60's they didn't mind the fumes in public areas!

I love messing around with little engines too. They’re a pain in the ass but oddly satisfying when you get them going. Again best of luck you two and love watching your videos 👍😁

    You need slight slack in the belt with the secondary clutch completely closed with the belt riding on the top of the sheave.The primary clutch should open at low rpm to release pressure on the belt and allow you to stop/shift.

    Look for a replacement belt at your local Snowmobile Shop. A wider belt will engage the clutch / transmission.
