    Are these slides available anywhere online? If so, would it be possible to get access to them? These videos are phenomenally helpful. It was be great to have them to look back at when preparing for exams!

    The zygomaticus major is the smiling muscle ( involved in smiling ), what about the zygomaticus minor? Is it involved in smiling or making a sad face?
    Another question, what is the action of the Levator Labii Superioris? I know it pulls the upper lip upwards however I've read that it is involved in making a sad face, is that even correct?

    • @TheNotedAnatomist
      @TheNotedAnatomist  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +ahmadharb13 Yes, zygomaticus minor muscle also assists in smiling (not making a sad face). The levator labii superioris muscle "elevates" the upper lip (hence the name). The depressor labii inferioris muscle "depresses" the lower lip (hence the name) as does the depressor anguli oris muscle and mentalis muscle. Does that help?

    • @ahmadharb13
      @ahmadharb13 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it helps very much thank you. I was just confused since my book ( provided by my medical school ) says that the sad face is caused by levator labi superioris and levator anguli oris and zygomaticus minor as well as the depressor muscles. It makes sense that the depressor muscles cause the sad face however the other three dont sound right to me

      Hmmm ... that is interesting. I can't imagine how they would. Unless the person is the joker so they look sad/mad while smiling!

      is there anyway to excercise/ tone the muscle of the zygomaticus major? or even isolate one side...

  • @nadeeshaperera4892

    Is any muscle active in maintaining the *resting length* of the mouth? Or is that only determined by bone structure and soft tissue drape?
    I've recently had a wisdom tooth extracted on the left side, and my mouth appears shortened (less wide at rest) on the left side than the right. When talking, especially when making EEE sounds, the commisure on the left doesn't go as far ear-wards as the right commisure. Also my left upper lip is taller (thicker). Like something used to be pulling it sideways and is now gone.
    I'm trying to figure out if this is nerve damage, or a muscle that was pulled during the surgery (there is no pain), or the loss of the tooth and a bit of maxilla causing the soft tissue to show inferomedial displacement.....

    • @Jballer300
      @Jballer300 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is late but I’d check for facial nerve palsy, usually droop is determined by the soft tissue aka the muscles of expression, if it’s significant enough to notice, something might have been impinged. It also could be you noticing things more now that your attention is focused in that area. Obviously this was 3 years ago but, I’m curious to hear what the findings were!
