Part of the reason that SaGa never caught on in the West was due to how hard Square wanted to push Final Fantasy as their premiere franchise. It didn't help that Unlimited SaGa flopped.
I'm glad to see that people are excited about these games despite their age and differences in design, as it has breathed some new life into a franchise that I thoroughly enjoy.
I feel like the people who cry out for a non-linear JRPG experience are those with the loudest voices and no ambition to explore the market. In truth, there are a lot of very amazing (if untranslated) non-linear JRPGs, both in older era console and PC. Some of these are being lost to time due to a lack of archiving, which is a huge shame, and blogs have been written to at least attempt to remember these games.
I was a clear example of those kind of people. I had 0 interest in finding RPG’s that were non linear and was to lazy to step out of staple franchises that were heavily marketed. I bitched about it and never made an effort to find the gems that I’ve found over the course of years I’ve played JRPG. I am so happy to have freed myself from that at a young age. I was like 11 when I got into JRPG’s in a serious fashion and boy have I never been happier to be apart of this cult like community. So many classics to behold and such an overwhelming of damn good/well made games. This genre has so much to offer and I’ve been preaching it for years.
Unfortunately people are often like that. The world can't be inquisitive for us, we need to be inquisitive ourselves. This requires an adventurous and open minded attitude.
Can you guys mention a few non-linear RPGs that I can play? The only ones I know are the romancing saga series. Thank you in advance
2024 but still did'nt forget how perfect this game. character class, story, background music, lore of every character, design. i played this game since i was young. maybe 10years. i didnt understand the words cause the game i played in SNES is japanese version, then when computer era's arrive. i played it in emulator english version. that when i finish the game. now still hoping that this game will recreate sequel. im still watching other videos while playing this game cause i have no time playing it again.
It’s pretty cool that we got this and Seiken Densetsu 3 on the Switch now. Maybe we can even get Bahamut Lagoon and Far East of Eden Zero!

Please please Bahamut Lagoon, it the game that introduce me to the Strategy JRPG game and eventually lead me to FFtactic and Fire Emblem

Just looked no such game called seiken densestu 3 on my switch. Was hoping in the comments people would comment old rpgs of snes, game cube, Sega denesis etc on switch store.
SaGa 3 feels like perpetual end game for me, like as if every main quest objective is complete save for the final dungeon and I’m avoiding it by tying up all loose ends. That said I love it because it feels like playing Jrpgs for the very first time again

Nice! Let us know what you think. And don’t forget to literally talk to everyone in a town. Also, after you unlock an area you can quick travel to it and don’t have to pay for a boat ride. Haha we see a lot of people making this mistake and losing money :)
Beat it back in the days in Japanese...Now I can get this and have a better understanding of the storyline...Now i wish they get treasures of rudras remastered...
Now, if only Squeenix could re-release Final Fantasies V and VI like this. Part of the reason they weren't included in the game pass for Microsoft, was because those ports are so crap.
R3GARnator somehow I doubt that is the real reason, given that they weren’t included on the switch either when all the final fantasy games started releasing there as well.

I'd really like Romancing Saga that went to PS2 ported. I feel I can't progress much partly for not having it on a portable device. But I get the sense I'm the only one who liked it.
Choose from 8 characters? I bet Octopath Traveler wishes everyone forgot about this game. I must play this game! playing Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Cross now, wonderful RPGs
Yeah, but unlike Octopath Traveler, all 8 characters have the same quest, just with mostly pretty minor differences.
SaGa Frontier OTOH, now there's the SaGa game I want to see remastered. 7 characters, 7 different quests.

I find the ultra hd sharp text such a contrast to the pixel graphics to where its quite jarring, I wish they would stop doing that with these remakes.

Yes, this Remastered version is really good and retains that retro feel of it too. Sadly, we never got it in the west. The first title in the trilogy was released on PS2, but it wasn’t too good

Granted I only paid €10 for it, I wish you'd mentioned how this "remaster" is in 30fps instead of 60 on SNES and adds input lag.
