  • Q- Is there an appropriate time to install an upgraded intercooler on my VW MK7? Should his be done after a stage 1 software tune or is there a specific point when an intercooler upgrade is needed?

    You can install an intercooler whenever cus its an upgrade in everyway, no matter where your car is. Simple as that

    Thats the progression im taking. Im APR Stage 2 with downpipe and Coldair intake. I am doing the intercooler asap as i can tell in my humid climate area it is having a significant impact on my performance after a couple of sporty hits.

    Is there a difference in performance between a Neuspeed front mount vs the Unitronic intercooler? Which would you prefer?

    I went like this mk7 gti Downpipe-cold air intake- stage 2 tune- stage 2 clutch(cuz it will definetly slip at stock)-intercooler

    What about Turbocharge pipes and throttle pipes? Does it really make a better performance?

    If heat dissiptn is the goal then should downpipe be first then intercooler? Confused !

    I upgraded mine, and the car doesn't run right anymore, maybe I did something wrong? Not sure. Or do I just need a tune up?

    So here what I wanna I already have a muffle delete and resonator delete I plan to get a downpipe soon with a bov and intake but I can’t decide if I should go tune or intercooler and still not sure what tune to get for my mk6 gti I would love some of help and feedback on this

      Do not go bov. Gti doesn't like bov because of the way their turbo is set up and how the ECU controls everything. I prefer Gfb dv+ diverter valve, it is not meant for loud turbo noises but it's the best performance DV I know of. I'm running it and I got 0 leaks. Your cold air intake should make loud enough turbo noises.

    basically, if you purchased a turbo charged vehicle, just get an upgraded intercooler from the beginning. Then you will have more peace of mind as you continue to mod the car. But first get an intercooler.

    I’ve seen water sprayer kits for intercoolers around 70$ but I’m not sure how well they cool the intercooler and you can’t use them at the strip. I get wicked heat soak just in stop and go driving when it’s over 100f outside but otherwise it’s fine and it’s 2015 stage 1 GTI. I sent an email asking about pre turbo water injection for small bump in power and easy way to combat some IC heat soak. Anyone on here have experience with water methyl injection? If not comment and get ask for help as well.

    What kind of added longevity does an upgraded intercooler have on a new car

    • @Jason-bd5iq
      @Jason-bd5iq 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Probably not a lot, unless you have to worry about detonation. Depends on your weather too, if it’s 70F year round that’s a probably not something to worry about. Most cars from manufacturers have undersized intercoolers so stop and go will heat it up or long periods of time at full throttle will do the same. It’ll just rob power not having a big enough intercooler. I usually don’t have issue tracking my GTI, street driving and drag racing are harder on it so it all depends. If you never have heat soak then it’s kind of a waste of money, like the newer ZL1’s stay plenty cool so an upgraded IC and stock power would probably be silly. If you put a bigger turbo on a vehicle and don’t have an air fuel ratio or high enough octane to compensate then keeping the smaller intercooler could cost you a piston.

    So I live in Phoenix, Arizona where the summers are 100°+ everyday and even above 110° often. I do feel like I lose a bit of power during all of summer. Is 100-110 much worse than somewhere that only gets to about 90°?

      Got my mk7.5 in June here in Virginia and I could tell an immediate difference on the extremely hot and humid day vs the days where it was still miserable, but slightly less so. Now that its cooling off my gti feels like its gotten a small tune. Getting a big tune next month!

      Intake is even more useless than an intercooler for power, at least an intercooler mitigates heat soak

    • @EmilyRose900
      @EmilyRose900 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carsaregood911 Not really. The colder the air, the more oxygen molecules cluster together. More oxygen means bigger bang. Hence why nitrous oxide injection gives major power increases because your spraying massive amounts of super cold oxygen into your motor. 1 part nitrous 2 parts oxygen. Problems occur when the computer and injectors can't meet the need for more fuel or adjust the mixture properly. Blowing rings and even pre-detinating so hard it shoots your piston through your hood. Molecular engineering isn't for the layman and is kinda hard to wrap ones head around. Seek a real engineer to explain as I'm still a little confused myself as to what is the best route to go with as far as upgrading.

      An intercooler just cools air. It doesn't change anything. It would be like driving your car in a cooler climate. The car's computer can adjust for those types of variations.

      There's really no power gains from a bigger intercooler. It helps from losing power due to hear soak.

      Adiroma615. I just hope it helps some with these high temps in the south that last about 4 months a year. I never track my car just some spirited driving occasionally.. I paid 200 for it thru a vw dealership and was quoted 400 to install. Still a lot less than any of the main aftermarket brands.. I just hope I'm not throwing away $600.
