Tim isn't the same as Allan, he has much more traditional jazz harmony in his playing, it is just his sound that is reminiscent. Also, you are confusing mimicry with influence. All musicians are influenced by the greats that came before them, the secret is to build on that legacy. It is becoming increasingly apparent that Alan's influence has finally percolated through to many of the young shredders and jazzers, which is a good thing, as they will take that legacy forward.
I would agree there is a vibe reminiscent of late 80s Allan Holdsworth group, but the music is not the same. This band swings way more, there is also a distinct Wayne Shorter sound to some of the chord changes, which one could probably connect to influences like T. Monk. There are 10,000 popular songs based on the same 3 chords, often played the same way, in the same order. Seeing a band play this type of music doesn't mean they are copying anyone. What it means is that there are very few bands with the talent and the interest in playing such virtuosic, brilliant and very unprofitable, uncommercial music. So they compared to the very few others playing in a similar style.
Nah, sounds exactly like Holdsworth. It’s funny…whenever I see I guy with a headless guitar, (with a few exceptions) - I know EXACTLY what it’s going to sound like.
I’d like to announce for the first time in my history I actually replayed a BASS SOLO multiple times. Amazing Evan!
