@@TheSpagheti this is a classic, true to what it used to be "video game" in every sense. Games are supposed to be beat. And when you want to play them again, you play them again. In 2024, I'm dead tired of games that is 150 hours of tedium just to pretend you're getting your money's worth. Gunslinger may take one tenth of what and average game today takes to beat. But every second of that time is spent actually having fun. That's better than pointless padding. Game also had an arcade mode if I recall correctly and challenges to clear.
@@TheSpaghetiArcade mode is fantastic if you wanna give it a try. It takes a minute to grind out all the upgrades but you can learn the maps and plan routes for all classes while you're doing it. Super fast paced and each class gives a unique play style once you've got all the upgrades. Where the upgrades in the base game essentially let the game play it's self, arcade feels a lot more balanced for each play style. Every time I pick up the game, I usually cap it off by running a full combo on all arcade levels for all classes to see if I can top my high score. Def worth giving a try.
Because it’s a completely different group of people that made the two games & a different engine. It’s amazing how many gamers don’t understand that… just because “Techland” made both games doesn’t mean they’re going to have the same level of love & time put into it. There are also years of time between Gunslinger & DL2, so of course there would be different developers & management steering the direction of the company. Techland sold their souls as well now & won’t be making anymore quality games, no thanks to Tencent.
@@StealthyZombie Its literally the same engine. You can tell just by looking at the feel of the gameplay. It's the Chrome Engine. Techland is the developer, not the publisher. I guarantee many of the same employees worked on both games. So, wrong on both accounts.
A small detail that goes a long way is the "mash r to reload faster" mechanic. It adds so much to the feel of the frantic gunplay and it's a shame nobody has done something similar. Gunslinger has probably my favourite gunplay in any game I've played and that reload is a not insignificant part of it.
The fact that you took the narration concept of Gunslinger applied it to your video is amazing. Appreciate the quality and the work that you have put in to make this video. Definitely got me interested to try the game.
@@Shxdowboy Got a video suggestion for you. There is a semi-popular/criminally underrated game called "Deus Ex - Mankind Divided" from the Deus Ex series that have incredible game play (open world) and story-telling elements that revolves around a dystopian world, similar to Cyberpunk 2077, but way better. I might've heard of the game, I'll check it out. Also, don't bother with the discord server, it's dead anyway. I'm probably gonna be shutting it down soon.
Literally the only thing about Gunslinger that bothers me are the animations for the rifle. The reload is so incorrect, it's kinda immersion breaking for me. But I love the game in spite of that.

I'm glad i played the series based on the stories in order, not by the released date. I played the BIB and then I played Billy Candle's. After that the Gunslinger and then The Cartel. I'm on the same page that The Cartel gameplay system was different than other series been.
After watching this video, I went and bought this game off of steam today. it was on sale for $ 1.50! Best game purchase I've made in a long time! Thanks so much for this video... this is exactly the type of game I was looking for.
Great underrated game. Great story telling. What I didn't like in it was, the constant loss of control over your movements. Also with the duels, that wavering circle of concentration, where you didn't actually have a firm grip over what's happening, I liked the duelling of previous CoJ's better. So yes, less freedom of movement.
Wow! I thought I was watching some 300-700k channel… only 1,6k? Jeez… what a quality… keep up, man! Will sub so I can brag I was one of the OG once you get big haha
I got The Cartel on steam before it got pulled. I was a fan of the first two games and thought I'd give it a chance... boy was I disappointed. But Gunslinger made everything better again. I think The Cartel was a big learning experience for this dev, and they avoided relying on contemporary gimmicks this time. Instead they focused on a few things they were good at, and went as hard as they could with those things in Gunslinger. The action, the story, the style. I'm in total agreement with this vid. The replayability of this game totally deserved its own section though. 😂 It's really rewarding to replay, and once you have all the perks unlocked you're basically playing as The Flash with pistols.
Gunslinger is an incredible game. It’s a full game & it was only being sold for $15 at the time. Techland really made something special with that one. Cult classic. CoJ: Gunslinger & Dying Light are great Techland games. Two of my all time favorites.
I just 100%ed this game on steam and what a great ride for a 1.25! I just with The Cartel was still on steam, I always want game preservation, no matter how bad games are and I heard it was okay by its lonesome. Just like with BF hardline.
If not for Erron Black from Mortal Kombat X then I would've never played this game and later rdr 2 while becoming a western fan. And since rdr 1 is coming out on pc this october, I'm going to be playing it as well. CoJ: Gunslinger is a great game; my main and only problem was with moving around, feels like a lot of weight sometimes
There are still not enough Western games made! I mean, even Sunset Riders (which is long overdue a sequel/re-release) is an absolute banger! I bloody love Gunslinger - one of the best FPS titles in the last 20 years. it's like a cross between Mad Dog McCree (the QTE sequences) and Call Of Duty (being a linear FPS). The guns sound amazing and the story is such a fun ride, an unreliable narrator is often an interesting narrative twist.
Great game, as a N.A southern gal who loves to pop a top on a beer and shoot my dang ol six, love this game. It's fun, lovely to look at...and that voice acting. Shit get it, it's what 2 bucks on all online systems, hey hey HEY y'all dieing light fans????? Same folks, own it now, y'all gonna be sad in 2030

Bound in blood and Gunslinger both are better than Red dead series. I know people would call me a fool, but honestly as a game RDR is better but as an old wild west shooter call of juarez is not just better its way ahead. Tonics and auto lock in rdr killed the combat. There is no difficulty level. Its like you breeze your way through the entire game without even dying once.
man do i love gunslinger, i played previous two as well but gunslinger has good story, good humour, and its just so fun generally, the firing is just fun and i really enjoyed completing the achievements, ofc its not as good as rdr2 where i had the most fun hours playing it, completing 100 % achievement, but this is second to rdr2, cant recommend it enough
Only thing I didn't like about Gunslinger is that it had nothing to do with the first two games (story wise). I got the three CoJ titles in a steam bundle and expected all three to go off the same story, but Gunslinger felt to me more like a game that uses a popular name to get more sales. Nontheless, great game, got all achievements and all in all, enjoyed the hell out of it
I love this game so much, i know techlands best game is the first dying light. But if call of juarez gunslinger had more content it would 100% have a high chance of joining dying light up there. Ah I've heard of it but didn't get the chance to play it. Although even if the servers are still up and running, I doubt there are many people online right now unfortunately
I recall back when it launched reading about it how it was a return to it's roots of western stories and since i always liked western spaghettis i figured it would be a fun to try. Downloaded the demo, and had so much fun with the stinking springs first level that i replayed it dozens of times and kept talking about it with my friends at school. Weeks later a bought it with the money i received for lunch at school (yeah i kept it to buy the game lmao) and had a blast. 10 years later and is still one of my fav fps games just for the simplicity of it and the creativity on display, using the mechanics of military shooters of the time to build a bunch of crazy mechanics that in time turn you from an average man shooting some guys, to this crazy legend of the wild west that can jump from the second floor while shooting 7 guys in the head in a fraction of second. What i love the most is that as Silas' stories get more exaggerated, so the gameplay and skills you unlock in the game, to a point you are dodging bullets and shooting the ones who shot at the same time, recharging fire arms in ridiculous ways (the mash R thing while the cylinder rotates itself and bullets magnetize to the chamber is one of the funniest shit I've seen in fps games), and fighting a dozens of apache warriors at the same time while Jack gets even more astonished with the cheer display of bullshit happening. It just adds to the sense of "this drunk man is just mading shit up and lost track of it", and the plot twist that some of that stuff was real but the clash of fiction and reality being blurry like what happened to real cowboy stories. Game is just a good time and probably the best techland game.
Well said! Personally, I wouldn't say it's the best Techland game due to its short length and since Dying Light exists, but if you consider it your favourite, that's perfectly fine. it's still one of their better, more underrated projects. I had a blast playing through it multiple times, and making this video as well.
Fantastic summary and I've always regarded it as a miniature masterpiece! Getting the completion with all the Gold medals and 100% ing the duels was incredibly satisfying!
Naaah finding all the green and blue Orbs in Crackdown 1 is worse given the crappy map that doesn't align with any guides.....lol Duels are tough at first but once you get the mechanic down (the concentrating on both thumbs) then it does get easier. A game called "Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons" has you doing independent stuff between both analogue sticks. That sure helps with the duels in this game. But I totally get where your coming from. It may be that your right thumb is easier than your left so if that's the case focus on your left so you can try and get as close to 100% as possible with both sides (but you really need to focus on both). Also, the guys move/walk in certain ways and once you remember that it becomes easier also. Practice and you WILL get good. What you learn on the first guy you use on the last guy......remember that!!
Happy 10-Year Anniversary to Call of Juarez: Gunslinger!

Agreed
Hope Techland would bringback this series, especially if they bringback Silas Greaves
I played it thinking "meh can't be that good" to then "holy shit I could play this all day"
