    I always loved Bernie. What a class act. At the end of one season he bought his lineman each a case of Dom Perignon. After the Byner fumble against Denver Kosar walked over to Byner (who was sitting alone) and put his arm around Byner. As if to say, this is not all on you. The guy played on a broken ankle. Tough. He had a sense of humor. He joked that his 40 yard dash could be recorded on a sun dial. This guy had almost no agility but found clever ways to win and always had amazing accuracy.

    The biggest mistake Bill Bellicheck ever made was dumping Bernie way too early. He shouldn't have just been a high level backup, who maybe can start for an elite guy like Marino and Aikman when they got hurt. He was still playing well, there was no drop off as he implied the year he cut him, Bill missed that. He was still able to have multiple good years left with Cleveland and he had a wonderful career with winning to go with it, that most Brown's fans have missed ever since him and those teams of course 😭.

    • @josephhecht6331

    • @jharrison1185
      @jharrison1185 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yeah, Belichick at that time in his career did not want a quarterback changing plays and calling audibles. His last play for the Browns was him disregarding the play called on the sidelines and throwing a bomb for a touchdown. Belichick was so pissed he threw his headphones on the ground. Bernie was released that week. Too bad. The Browns were 5-1 and winning the division. They finished 7-9 for the year. Bernie got his Super Bowl ring that year with Dallas. That was a huge strength of Mary Schottenheimer, he let Bernie do his thing, and they made the playoffs in each of Bernie's first five years.

      In my opinion, I blame the coaching more than I blame the talent around him... Marty proved himself to be a winning coach, but Bernie often butted heads with him in key situations. They had Webster Slaughter, Reggie Langhorne, Brian Brennan, Ozzie Newsome, and others on offense (including a solid O-line of Risien, Fike, Baab, Williams, and Farren). I think they definitely lost against Miami in '85 because of coaching, and they probably lost because of coaching on the drive against Denver in '86. Marty was a great coach and should not have been let go as soon as he was, but it does seem like he was a little too conservative with leads in the second half

      I don't know what you're watching. I haven't seen the name of a single cop on the back of any player's helmet.

    I never understood what was so great about him especially amongst the greats of that time watch him run like he had crap in his pants Then watch Elway or Marino or Warren Moon or or Joe Montana Phil Simms Jim Kelly he was an average quarterback with great talent surrounding him

    • @josephhecht6331
      @josephhecht6331  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a fair argument, he wasn't athletic and he was running for his life a lot of the time. But the talent around Kosar gets talked about less than Kosar gets talked about. There aren't a lot of people out there talking about the greatness of Webster Slaughter, Kevin Mack, and Reggie Langhorne... Those guys were great players (maybe they really are just underrated), but they aren't talked about nearly as much as Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed, OJ Anderson, Jerry Rice, or the Marks brothers. All of those guys surrounded the quarterbacks you mentioned.

      @@josephhecht6331 You’re right in the way but no one talks about Jerry Rice? Arguably the greatest receiver of all time Webster slaughter is very very underrated And no one ever seems to mention the Tight end Brian Brennan he saved him a lot I always felt the Browns could’ve won a Super Bowl back then if they just had a different quarterback But Cleveland loved that guy smh

    Boy he threw a great deep ball. Having slaughter as a deep threat didn’t hurt either. He was dangerous downfield

    I miss these Browns. Not sure who is playing there now. A bunch of spoiled, entitled, me, me, me, players who only went to college so they can make millions.

    I remember those years when the Browns would always win when the wore their all white uniforms but always lose when they wore their Brown shirts and orange or white pants.

      I miss the all-white at home. I guess it just represents the glory days at Municipal Stadium. The white uniforms would be brown by the end of the game but the Browns usually came away with a win.
