Hey guys i just wanted to say thanks for all the support and good comments! I wasn't expecting for this to get this much views as well, it's been great and you guys are awesome! Also, what would you guys like to see from this channel going forward?
you should keep posting your progress in drums, i would love to keep watching how you develop if your gonna keep learning, it was a really fun video keep it up u got this (i recommend you to play fear of dying-poppy it help me to get started with fills)
I’ve been playing the drums for 15+ years and even have a degree in drums. I say with confidence and experience that you are legitimately off to a great start. Keep it up and don’t stop!
Your experience is extremely relatable. I also started playing drums after already having been an experienced guitarist and oh boy, it did NOT come easy. Nothing more frustrating than knowing exactly what you're supposed to be doing, yet your limbs just decide that today is not the day and feel twice as heavy as the day before. What I really struggled with was that because of the physical nature of the instrument, it takes a long time for metal drummers to get to a point where we can somewhat jam along to pretty much any of our favorite tracks. Everyone knows slowing things down to a crawl is the key, but a 200bpm riff just doesn't feel inspiring at a 100bpm. I don't remember struggling with that nearly as much while learning to play guitar. Those moments where something starts working all of a sudden though... those are worth living for. Takes some determination to stay inspired through all of that, so great job for sticking with your plans! Keep going and it may become your new favorite instrument \m/
Really impressed with the video, didn't realise you were such a small youtuber! Also, as a drummer I'm impressed that you started with some pretty complex songs XD
As a drummer of 5 or so years I can say it took me months to get where you are. I’m astonished, good job. Not too long from now you’ll be playing gigs with the rest of us!.
@scorchthesun yeah hell yeah!. You gone acoustic yet? It's worth the switch. Over the past three or so years I spent all my savings on a massive kit and it's the most fun thing in the world
Keep this up bro, you're doing really well! It gets easier, I promise (kind of, lol). The idea is to get the basic pattern going (almost on autopilot, and in time) without using too much mental-capacity(RAM) in order to add in your own flavors on top of it. Getting these basic patterns down tight without really needing to focus on them will make the whole experience more enjoyable. While it's good to try to learn new songs that you like, this can also be an extremely difficult way to learn because those songs are played by the original artists who have their own "flavors", some of which may be beyond your current skill-level. The absolute last thing you need is to lose motivation because you're trying to accomplish something you're not quite ready for yet. Learning some basic rudiments and sitting for hours just looping a "doubles" or a "paradiddle" or "triplet" pattern can really help to ingrain the "feeling" into your muscles and will allow you to recall and play them almost without having to think about them. It is these small wins that help to motivate and give a sense of accomplishment. There are tons of "looped" drum videos online and it's helpful to choose one and just play along for hours until you *KNOW* you know how to do it. Anyway, well done bro, don't give up! I think you did very well for only 1 month.🥁🏆
Whoa. Really well done editing and overall movement throughout the video. I didn’t think u were a small beginner TH-camr until I opened the comment section. Keep up the good work and don’t give up on the drums!
Amazing vid man i loved seeing you progress and your humor is killing me. Drum beats online acadamy is what i use to learn drums. Have been using it for about 5 years now highly reccomend.
very nice video. I could tell right away that you had some serious musical skill on guitar/bass before starting with drums. none of my students would learn that quick, if he hasn't played an instrument before or had any musical education. You understood the fundamentals very quickly. Also your drum library that is connected to your module sounds sick. Respect :)
Brilliant video! Really well made and cleanly edited, especially for a smaller channel. I’ve been playing for just over 7 years now and from loads of people I’ve seen try to pick up drums this quickly, even if they were already musicians didn’t have progress nearly as fast as yours, you did great! I think the reason for all of your stick breaks is that your grip on your left hand is way too tight so the wood has no room to vibrate from the impact of hitting the drum, causing weakness just above your hand, which probably led to the last break. Also, those sticks look like they’re made of plywood which probably didn’t help, the new sticks you bought at the end look to be a hardwood which is much better for shock absorption. Again, absolutely amazing video and great progress!
@TH-camRandoms Thanks! And yeah my grip kinda sucked, specially at the beginning. The sticks i bought towards the end are made of hickory (I don't know how good that actually is, but i think it's supposed to be good right?)
@ absolutely! Hickory is best density wise, hard enough not to break too often and not so hard that you get carpal tunnel after a week of playing. Oak is also good but it’s slightly more dense so they last longer but don’t absorb as much of the shock, so only get them if your sticks keep breaking. Great video though, and a lot more realistic progress than some other 30 day challenges where people clearly either skip key learning moments or we’re playing long before. Keep up the great content!
This is making me wanna learn the drums now , I can relate to the immediate skipping to harder songs because when I started playing guitar I immediately tried to learn Polyphia songs lmao
I started playing like a month and a half ago almost as much as you ,great start! i think we;'re having similar progress but i think u are rushing the double bass a bit, get ur kicks clean at first . also start learning some easier songs , cuz the feeling of getting one flawless song is unmatched (i did some dream pop songs, gary moore etc), and you cant really do that with medium songs on ur first months (hell even cover bands would mess this up),
I am a drummer and I skip a lot of YT vids but this was good, actually watched the thing. Hope the algorithm grabs ya bro EDIT: helps that we like a lot of the same shituff
They say ‘double bass for beginners’ because typically you play single pedal for a while before you start double bass so a certain level of limb independence and control is expected already. It’s like starting guitar on hard mode by learning on an 8 string instead of a 6 string.
For everybody who wants to start playing the drums now: Great choice! You've decided to be cool. Don't be a guitarist, you are better than that and you know it! With that out of the way lemme tell ya, experimenting with double bass is fun BUT get a solid single bass foundation before you really try. You will most likely suck at double bass and this might kill your mental and your motivation. Other than that, have fun at being an awesome human 👍
@@scorchthesun sticks usually get cut from playing on cymbals and rims, but if you're playing on hard rubber consistently while occasionally missing and hitting plastic/metal, that'll do it too. Usually beginners play with waaay more velocity than they need to, which can exacerbate those little chips you see on the sticks into snapping. A pair of good sticks on any ol' practice pad will generally last many months.
@@lafe.9509 Yeah i have a LOT to learn still, a lot of basic stuff that i skipped out on in this challenge because i just wanted to focus on songs, but thanks for the tip!
for a months work that is pretty decent progress. The problem is is that you tried to learn to many techniques in that short timeframe. Things like double base and ghost notes arent something id recommend for someone who is a beginner, but more someone who is intermediate. Also playing Metallica songs as a beginner might not be the best idea since lars ulrich (the drummer of metallica) is know for not keeping to the rythem and kinda doing his own thing. That shouldnt discourage you tho, you still made progress and that shows, which is why id say maybe try to play the songs in a simpler way and also a habit that id recommend you get used to is not to rest you left hand on your thigh when you arent playing, since that can cause i number of issues. Other than that there isnt really much i could add at the first glance. So keep pushing, dont get discouraged, it'll come with time, as a drummer that is now learning guitar i can understand the struggle very much. And again, have fun on your journey
If you hold the stick with all of your fingers, use more and and less wrist on the cymbals, you’ll drop the sticks a lot less and your playing will be cleaner. Other then that, your doing VERY good for a beginner
@@isaacbrecht4015 Yes! I heard that from someone during this and tried to apply that towards the end, so you'll see i actually stopped dropping the sticks so much as the challenge advanced, so this is great advice!
This will piss you off as much as it did my friend. My friend was learning how to play the drums. He had to go upstairs to go to the bathroom and I asked if I could try. I sat down and was just able to play them. A hole 10 seconds to figure out the basic beat in my head and then just do it on the drums. I continued to play them ever since. Then I learned how to play guitar while playing the drums in a band. I just watched what the guitarist did, and I was able to do it. I have 10 songs under my belt that I have wrote and recorded writing the guitar and the drum parts.
