      I lived in Bangkok while I was there - I had a central apartment where I could store my stuff and feel safe
      Yeah you could find cheaper but I wanted a central location I could use for traveling. I was going to Japan during the months I was there as well. $90 ticket from Bangkok.
      If you want to save money and don't mind being around partying and more tourist, Phuket or Pattaya would be great for 2 months. I loved all three.

    Yes, Thailand is affordable. But live like a King for $1500 is some serious stretch. I lived in Bangkok in the early 90's for 2 years and was making roughly $1500 per month and I know for a fact even back then $1500 was just above middle class life style for a single man. I can only imagine things are more expensive now. Phuket could be cheaper than Bangkok, but if you go there assuming you can live like a King for $1500, you are in for a rude surprise. I would say that a realistic number for a King style life in Bangkok/Phuket for a single person is around 5K per month. "King Life" is subjective, but Kings have a cooks, maids, daily massages etc :) With 5K, you can have a cook, a maid for cleaning, laundry & pressing clothes, rent a quality apartment in a good location, dinner and drinks in good restaurants 3 times a week, enjoy night life responsibly, a couple of high quality massages per week, dress well, and do a few travels per year. That to me is a King life :)

    Thanks for the video, last year, I lived in the Jomtien area close to Pattaya for 6 months and my monthly budget was $3K and that's with companionship with a regular Thai lady for 3x a week and not buying any lady drinks and barfines. Been eating Thai foods in the market not western food. I don't even smoke cigarettes/weeds & chew tobacco. I was planning to retire but changed my mind in the last minute. In my early 50's now and back to work in sunny Cali. Will do this again, next year.

    The longest I've ever been in Thailand is 6wks, but still on the ExPat retirement list. Grab is the equivalent Uber for rides and food delivery. Grab will bring you any food you want from McDonalds to a 5 star steak house. I actually prefer to go out to eat rather than eat at home. I can not stress enough how good and inexpensive the food is compared to the USA. It's actually less expensive to eat out then too cook. I'm not sure how the economics work out, but you can order a meal that costs less than the sum of the parts that make it up, and prepared way better than I could make at home. I kept some snacks at the rental but that's it.
    I also do not smoke, drink, party, or do drugs. I typical day in Phuket for me was waking up, working out, eating, then studying. Would rent a scooter and travel around, or take short flights (which are very inexpensive once you are there).
    Not mentioned directly in this video, you need a stable source of income. You will NOT find a job local that pays what you make in the USA. So either plan or have passive.

    Most money you spend to live in or close to a resort with nightlife, tourists girls and local bar girls (Patong, Rawai, Bang Tao), to stay in an apartment which is beachside, seaside, seaview or at least with any kind of view, to go to places to meet girls looking for a hookup (beach clubs, night clubs), to progress with the girls you find (drinks, dining) and for hookers if you end up being empty-handed at the end of the night. IF you can bite the bullet and write off women as a topic and void yourself from doing all of the things mentioned above, you can live in most places a decent live while not going overboard with money.

    It's possible no doubt BUT..... TH-camrs have a JOB to keep them busy during the week so the average person will need to occupy themselves for an extra ~30 hours a week and that costs money. Also, things like computers break and need replacing, and are you really gonna live in a condo with cheap azz furniture and a tiny TV? I figure that after you settle down in a location you'll be buying a new mattress, TV, couch, etc. Good vid.

  • @troyelam8978
    @troyelam8978 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You simply cannot live like a king and Thailand for $1500 a month. I’m not sure what kind of king he’s talking about. Not an actual king of any nation on earth.
    Thailand, the Philippines, etc., they are much cheaper than the United States, even 54% cheaper. However, if you decrease the cost in the United States by 54%, do you think you could get by on $1500 per month? Wait, let me rephrase that, do you think , you could live like a king in the United States for $1500 a month, even if costs decreased by 54%? We all know the answer is no. You need at least $3000 a month in those southeast Asian countries to live anywhere near like a king. And yes, I’ve been there.

    • @Naijahoy
      @Naijahoy  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      “Living like a king” is a figure of speech which is meant to convey how far the US dollar can stretch in Thailand
      I’m sure no rational-minded person is actually expecting to live like a modern day king of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sweden etc on such a small budget
      And even $3000 would be nowhere near enough either- if you’re expecting a Palace, personal attendants, lambos etc.
      So now that we’re done playing the semantics game. We can get back to the point of the video being that the US dollar stretches very far in Thailand

    • @troyelam8978
      @troyelam8978 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Naijahoy first of all, I understand that saying you can live like a king is a figure of speech. I also understand you’re the one who chose that dumbass descriptor. So if someone calls you out on words you chose to use, perhaps you can choose your words more wisely in the future.
      Even if we take “live like a king” in the way you most likely meant it, which is basically “live like a rich person”, $1500 a month is still not anywhere enough! So either way, whether you meant it literally or figuratively, you’re wrong! And yes, I’ve been there!
      To live like a rich person, and I’m talking bare minimum, starting level rich, you need about $5000 a month in either the Philippines or Thailand. Any Instagram worthy, rich man looking condo is going to cost you about $2000 a month, in either country. That right there destroys your $1500 a month. I don’t think anyone would consider themselves living like a king, even figuratively speaking, without having a nice vehicle. That’s going to be about $500 a month. of course you’re going to have at least a maid, if not a maid and a driver or maid and a cook. You’re looking at another $600 a month. You’re going to join a nice gym with air-conditioning, that’s going to be $50 a month. You’re going to eat out, because what king doesn’t, you’re looking at about $400 a month minimum. Let’s be honest, one steak dinner at Wolfgang, right there in the Philippines, can run you $200. Obviously, you won’t do that every day, but you will do it at least once during that month, if you’re living like a king. Your queen is going to have needs. Presumably, you found someone very attractive, and you’re going to want to keep her looking that way. It will cost you at least $500 a month to maintain her. (nails, hair, make up, gym membership, clothes, tampons, lotion, food, etc.) And can we be really, really honest? You’re probably gonna have another little hidden sugar baby somewhere on the side. She’s going to take $200-$300 a month. I haven’t even gotten into utilities, Internet, travel to other islands or other countries, the necessary trips back to the USA. Once a year, insurances, your own personal grooming items, haircuts, massages, medical check ups, dental, etc. Heaven forbid if your girls family ever needs a little help here and there. And of course you need at least $200 set aside per month for whatever emergencies that might arise, and there will be emergencies.
      No, sir, no matter how you meant “live like a king”, $1500 a month ain’t going to cut it! Stop telling people this nonsense, because it causes some people, who may not have it all upstairs, to actually believe you, and make life-changing decisions that ultimately wreck them.

    The average Thai salary (median) is a shade under 100k per month. Not 15k a month.

      The fact that you commented this tells me that you’ve never been to Thailand and talked to the locals 🤦🏾‍♂️

      Click on my link bro. I've lived and worked in Thailand for more than 30 years, I'm a naturalised Thai citizen. I've employed thousands of people here over the years. I've sat on the boards of Chambers of Commerce here. There's a whole Thailand out there that you have zero experience of.

      @@noah_shepherd most of my friends and friends of theirs are getting 10k to 20k. 30-50k is on the really high end. 100k it’s not the average, but you can believe what you read on the net.
