to any newcomers, for the heelflip. Practice doing ollies for a couple minutes. Really try to catch your flick on the nose to make the board bone. And if you cant ollie well you wont have a good time learning heelflip so take a step back and master the ollie first.
Once you got your ollies good and warmed up. Slide your big toe off the front of the board keeping your foot at the same angle as your normal ollie maybe even a tiny bit more pointed towards the nose. Just a tad tho.
When you go to pop its important that you are comfortable crouching up and down and maybe even practice kicking each foot out whilst balancing on the other. Being able to move/balance freely on the board helps GREATLY landing advanced tricks. Another tip is to always be on the balls of your feet when doing any trick at all. Even for the heelflip your front foot should be balanced on the BALL of the foot for maximum pop/flick
anyways
So when you pop your legs are loose and bouncy ready to explode upwards. When you pop, you want to have your body already starting to move vertically upwards (dont lean any other direction other than slightly forward on you front foot, and dont turn your shoulders otherwise youll never land straight)
once you start to rise up , bring your back foot as HIGH as you can bring it, bring it even higher than your front foot to max the height. Start to slide your front /foot upwards like a normal ollie and once you feel your foot hit the nose, roll your ankle off the side of the board with a KICK of your heel against the nose like youre trying to kill a spider running towards you while still bringing your back foot as high as you can possibly bring it. This goes back to your ollies, Remember how you were supposed to really dig your foot into that nose?? Now i want you to dig your foot into that kick and bring your foot up making you look like youre doing a ninja kick in the air. Sometimes i even step off my board, jump up off my backfoot and do the heelflip ninja kick in the air as high as i can to practice. This is important to practice because without the extended KICK of your leg upwards and the rising of your back foot….
1) Your feet will stop the board from spinning fully (weak jump)
2) the board wont flip fast enough and you might primo (no kick of the front foot/ not bringing your back foot high enough)
3) Youll get an extremely rocket heelflip if you do land it. (Not bringing the back foot higher than the front foot/ not putting enough pressure on the nose to make it shift in the air)
So things to take from this are
1) Dont neglect your ollies, they're the foundation for most advanced tricks and theyre fun asf once you got them good.
2) JUMP straight UP after the pop, and apply more weight to your front foot so you dont slip backwards.
3) After the pop pull your back foot higher than your front foot to ensure it lands on the board, this will also help it bone even higher.
4) Flick hard and when you flick KICK YOUR LEG northwest (for goofy, northeast for a regular)
5) Be confident and tell yourself "Today is the day im going to land it" The main thing holding you back most of the time is yourself with all your thoughts and fears, just let it all go, put some hype music and get intense, the key to skateboarding is explosiveness and timing. Listening to hype music can help you get that intensity and confidence you need to land your tricks, aslo having friends that hype you up is always a plus ( But never let friends make you try a trick you're not ready to try, i broke my femur trying a trick on a stairset i was nervous about and ill always regret not trusting my guts. Trying new things is important but know your limits)
And I promise you if you train your ollies to be perfect, high and boned, the heelflip will come shortly after. And once you get the heelflip down kickflips become easier and same in vice versa. Dont ever give up or let frustration stop you from having fun. The whole point of skating is to have fun isnt it? So get out there, learn some tricks, get some friends and make some memories :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!👍😁
Thanks a lot appreciate it bro
Damn, that’s more helpful then any video I’ve seen
Damn bro,Ive been trying to learn them but with ur help, man I got them man, dont know how to thank you
I've been trying to heelflip for 100 hours and still couldnt do one but with this comment, I know exactly what you need to do to pop flick kick and land. Thank you, I'm about to try it tommorow🙏💯
Bro I wish my streets looked so nice like this and didn’t feel like I was riding over sandpaper
mitch homie what?
I get you man
Technically if you’re riding a skateboarding you are riding over sandpaper 👀
Preach.
But sand paper is smoother than that street 🤔
you should do a series where you learn switch by using your own tips

2:45 you’re an absolute g unit for inverting it for goofy
frfr
Yea I’m not goofy, I am regular and have a hard time watching goofy videos which seem to be everyone lol. But yea I wish others did that, definitely helps
I’m goofy
i mean, it's not that hard to invert it yourself.
@@adamlevine9090 me me me me
2:22 added tip. I put my front foot at an slight angle towards the nose. That gives me a good flick.
Christopher Perry my board always just shoots away any tips?
@@bankzey256 You're trying to Heelflip right from the start. Remember, a Heelflip is an Ollie with a flick. Put your front foot at an slight angle towards the nose, and make sure your heel is on the board not hanging off like an Ollie. Then just do an Ollie and drag your foot up the board and off. DO NOT KICK DOWN OR IN FRONT OF YOU. kick parallel to the ground. If you want some more help, David Lehto's How To Heelflip video helped me out too.
@@bankzey256 Keep your head above the front bolts and try to keep both feet around the same height in the air at all times. You're also probably trying to flick too early, but you still need to flick when jumping up. You're too late if you flick when going down already, as then you just don't have the time to tug in those legs and land.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Im can Flick the board all the way but my back foot wont bend. I dont know if its a commitment problem. I can send a vid to show you.
You to bro
Man this has been so helpful I’ve been trying to heelflip for 7 months and now I’m closer than ever because of this video
Thanks Sean, took 18 years off skating, was never any good in the first place. I'm landing heelflips day 2 of skating after never really being able to years ago, youtube is amazing. I can add that what is helping me land back on the board is sort of visualizing that my feet are kind of landing forward on the board but also behind my back more, so I kind of visualize that I'm maybe landing 4 or so inches behind where I'm jumping from while also jumping towards my nose slightly while moving. I also try to keep an eye on the toeside edge of my nose so it really gets me to focus on dragging my foot all the way up instead of just flicking forward.
Sorry to add, just thought I would add what has helped me on top of your great tutorials.
Btw I also fell just like you landing primo on this today, just wish I was your age, surprised I didn't hurt my old self.
I haven’t skated in 13 years. Getting back into riding at the age of 32 hasn’t been easy. This tutorial helped me land a Heelflip! Thank you so much!!!!
me too havent skated since i was a kid/teen.
this is seriously the best heelflip tutorial i’ve seen
You helped me land my first heel flip! I’ve been practicing heelflips for 4 days and I’ve watched so many totorials of how to keep you board under you. Your video helped me so much! Thank you!!
MOST UNDERRATED CHANNEL ON TH-cam 100%
I'm no where near learning this yet but I felt like this helped and I will try anyway. I have a sense I'll be more of a heelpflipper than a kick flipper but who knows ... I will get there!
I'm working on heelflips atm too. Best of luck to you man!
Hey did u guys get it yet? Got any tips?
i can’t tell you how many times i’ve came back to this video, i used to be able to do heel flips somewhat consistent but now it’s like i’ve formed a habit of not landing with my back foot
Bro you're the best skateboarding teacher on youtube, subscribed
YES FINALLY!!
Lol at your name
lmao
Well now I can heelflip even at 2% luck now. Many thanks man.
I Can't Heelflip r/usernamechecksout
change your name dude
as soon as you gave that tip about how to flick your front foot, i actually managed to land it- thanks so much !!
this was super helpful. the knee tuck was the key for me
This is awesome! Thank you.
I thought it was interesting what you do with the back foot. It looks “wrong” but one thing I’ve learned is that in skateboarding, people will do many of the same tricks in different ways.
You get awesome pop from your back foot being in the center whereas I put my foot in the pocket to counter balance the board.
I also have a friend that DOES kick out his heelflips, and for some weird reason he lands them. Idk man, we’re all different even if the fundamentals are the same.
Also...Even though you don’t put your foot in the corner pocket, I appreciate you still showing what it looks like to put your foot in the corner pocket, instead of just ignoring it entirely.
Sean I want to thank you for your tip and more importantly your inspiration for me to skate again at age 42.
Good stuff man
Your the best skateboarding tutor ever thanks I got varial flips immediately after watching your video
The tucking your knees up helped alot thank you
This is a very good video, the houre, the light, the way you explain and do the content of the video is very good
Thanks!
@@seanbrownskating and in some way this video make me happy
Thank you so much I just landed my first heel flip today your vid’s are awesome keep it up ima learn kick flips next
This vid helped me an insane amount, landed my heels about 10 mins after watching this Ty so much for the helpful tips man
That’s awesome!! Nice job!
If thats your driveway behind you, or if yours is similar, you could build a small portable quarter pipe to put at the bottom so you could hit the quarter, then roll up the drive, bust a move and back to the quarter.
Skates for years and took a break for years and forgot all my tricks. Thanks for the refresher.
I gotchu!
lot of helpful tips thanks bro
The advice about not leaning too far forward is actually solid advice on ollies as well. I struggled on my landings for ollies due to too much forward lean and landing on the board with my toes way over the front edge and my heels halfway across the board.
Shoutout to ur homie in the back looking at his phone😂😂
liloogie at first I thought that was him
After I really look I realized
I had the foot touching the ground before landing issue with kickflips. Took a while to realize that you gotta bring legs up to your chest. Pretty much applies with all tricks.
Your kickflip video has helped me and i can do a kickflip!! And now i need to make the heelflip. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
This guy deserves more subs !
Best heelflip trick tipp ever because no TH-camr Male this with the knees tucking and That was my problem thanks bro
I would add: when popping with the back foot, tap to the opposite direction, as if you are telling the board to stay behind (so if you are regular, tap in the goofy position and vice versa ...., not your backside back). It helps the board to stay more or less centered under your feet. That would explain why some prefer the pocket and other prefer it more or les on the edge, in the middle.
This series is a Godsend. Thank you so much, bro. These videos help A TON! Great video
Will keep them coming for sure!
THANK YOU I LANDED IT 30 times after watching this THANK YOU U JUST EARNED A SUB!!!🔥🔥❤️
Bro you have covered everything, one of the best videos abt hillflips out there... I found for my self that tucking my knees up is exactly what im not doing to actually land it and havent ever noticed it. Thanks!
Thank u I think this will really help me with my heel flip
You're the best skate teacher on YT
Thanks :)
I cant stress enough how thankful I am for this video thank you so much for your advice it really helped out so much thank you
Yeah my board is landing behind me and I’m getting the full flip. Gonna try to lean back. Thanks g
I cant even fathom how much this helps.thank you so much!
dude this is what i needed ive been trying heels for months
this is literally so perfectly detailed and explained thank you
Great instructional. Thanks.
Happy to help!
Landed my first heelflip today, thank you very much dude!
Trying to get it today! Going out and going to try it now
Hope you made some progress!
What helped me was really focusing on using my heel to flick it, and having proper posture
great video! can´t wait to go out and work on my heelfip. thanks for taking the effort!
Ok, I just realized just how important the ankle bend is with this.
I always did the shitty dollar tree flips where you kick the board down with your heel but don't come up much.
Started working on this and could not for the life of me get it to spin when sliding instead of kicking my heel against it.
It was the ollie ankle, I kept over thinking or pussing out and wasn't getting that height or grip.
So, to anyone else that cant get it to spin enough, make sure bend that ankle. It solved my spin problems and the landing problems. Cant land it just yet, I literally 5 minutes ago figured this out, but it is much closer and way more consistent.
Good luck guys and thank you for this video ;D
Thanks for the help best teacher better than Braille it tutorials
Hey bro thanks but also do u have any tips extra advice for the flick part mine only goes like half way
THANK YOU FOR THIS, landed my first heel after 5 months of skating, you really got me out a rut
Awesome!!!
Bro u deserve a sub this is the only tutorial that worked
Thx, dude! Landing my first one today 🖤🖤🖤
I’m currently learning kickflips and I am really not progressing so I thought I’d give heel flips a go. Your tip at around 6:09 really helped with my kickflips,😂 I was so confused as to why I was landing before. Thanks man 🙏
U helped me with the Ollie I bet This will help me with heelflip
I literally had almost all these problems thank you I can’t wait to try them to day it usually takes about an hour to land one
And we’re back on Sean’s page 🔥love you man hope ur degree paid off
Thanks! And it is! Learning a lot and the paychecks are nice :)
This helped me a lot he deserves more subscribers
This is why I watch your videos
thank you
primo'd 3 times yesterday. my closest makes. hope to nail it soon with your tips. Thanks G
Yo thank you man! I was trying these the other day and was surprised I could almost land it, you addressed both issues I had so gonna give it another shot with these tips
I don't know if this guy is actually helping , but he seems so sweet and so nice
Haha thanks! Let me know if you need any extra tips!
@@seanbrownskating nah , thanks , I seem to still be flicking wrong, but I'm doing better, it's just a matter of practice at this point.
I love your vids. You don’t go over what to do if your only catching the board with your toes (too far behind or heelside of board). But based on your correction for landing in front (toe side) to lean further back, ima guess I need to lean less back/heelside to fix my issue. I think I’ve landed 5 in like 3 months and it’s always when I’m not overthinking it. I’m going to try and lean less back tho and hopefully start getting them under me consistently. Mostly thinking out loud but also again love ur vids.
most underrated skating youtube channel
I learned heel flips before kick flips I had a lot of trouble keeping my front foot on for kicks but no problem with heels
This guy is sooo helpful
Happy to hear that :)
Lol i just landed this and came back to thank u i Learned tres before heels because I thought since I learned kickflips I didn’t need heels but these are hellla steezy
This man is a legend
Thanx man i got the heelflip in 2 days of try’s all thanx to you
Great tutorial I keep having an issue while moving I will rotate the board and I’ll land in front of the nose so only my back foot is on the board
Hmmm I wonder if it's because you're kind of jumping into the flick. Try to to focus on not letting your shoulders drift towards the nose maybe.
Thank you so much! I just landed my first heelflip.
Ayyy! Awesome job!
Any advice for getting my back foot on the board?
Snappped! Hit like 10 in my sesh after watching this. New trick unlocked
Let’s goooo!
You are the best youtuber of skate thanks you for making videos
Thanks for the kind words!
You always help me the best
You are a great guy! Happy holidays!
Sean I came back to say thank you for teaching me I finally landed it but I didn’t land it the first time I watched the vid but know I can land it (but not consistently)
can you please do a why you cant 5050 a ledge/rail seems like it should be easy but theres many things that go wrong
I plan to soon! :)
I have problems with keeping the board underneath me bc the board keeps going forward and I'm only able to land with my front foot
Definitely going to try to learn heelflip before I learn kickflip, it’s a bit harder for me though because I haven’t learned the frontshove or frontside or backside 180 yet.
I would definitely learn 180s first. It will get you more comfortable on your skateboard to learn heelflips so it won't be too hard
Thank you this realy helped me
Glad it helped
Thanks for the video dude ! Looking forward to 2020 for ur channel (: and for progressing more and having fun with skating !!! Hope u had a good Christmas to man 😃🛹🛹🛹
Awesome video Sean, Huge inspiration forreal.
Bro this is such a good quality tutorial
😊
Finally landed one
Sick, best heelflip tutorial
bro idk why ima watch all your videos now I can do heelflip cause I never understood what people meant by lean back
Hey, I have a small problem with my heelflips. I've landed it a couple of times, but most of the times my feet catch the board before it is fully rotated. Do you have any tips for me? Would really appreciate it!
Nice video! Thank you so much!
Even tho it will be 25 degrees tomorrow im gonna practice tucking my knees because my right foot hits the ground behind the board instead of landing on the board im regular btw so this helped somewhat that was really my only mistake thanks bro 👍👍👍👍
i always under rotate and i have been trying for so long and they are reeaaalllyyyy low to the ground do you have any tips
Thanks for the Christmas present, enjoy the holidays :)
You’re a legend
I have my heel flip foot position almost like an ollie and I’m still able to get a somewhat high pop.
Thanks for the tips. Trying to learn this one now!!
My feet are 6 foot long and I use a 8.0 size board should I put my front foot a little higher where my heel won’t hang off ?
Great video , very clear and helpful 👍
what if the board shoots out towards the nose.. im i kicking too hard or sliding my foot too hard..
Merry Xmas SB,nice vid!
Love your vids Sean hope to see you at apex soon
