In this video, I go into as much detail as I can to explain how to ollie and skate stairs as well as the common mistakes made with beginners. I hope this video helps you as it will be the first big step to skating other obstacles rather than flat ground. If you need any more help, comment below or DM me on Instagram

Another quick tip: having friends motivate you can really help boost your confidence. My friend told me his camera was gonna die soon when I was close to kickflipping a 3 stair and it made me commit to the trick more and I ended up landing it. His battery was almost fully charged, he just wanted to give me a push 😂
Hes a legend
@@matiegamesx5465 indeed 😂
@@seanbrownskating im the guy that won your t shirt, its very nice and great vid!
@@matiegamesx5465 hope you’re liking it!
Stairs look so easy but when I get to the top I’m like “yea no way”
I've been to the same stair set three times, still not tried it. But only because its been busy all three times. I think it's my age.🤣
Same bro🤣🤣🤣
Mood bruh
That's most tricks for me. I seen other do em with ease, then I try it and nope. No way
Same
I have learned that meditating before doing stuff like this helps a lot. I think of it like stretching/warming up the mind before using it just like we stretch our muscles before we skate. Think about it 90% of skating is mental, why wouldn't we warm up the mind first?
Well said!
I haven’t tried meditating but I will soon, I usually hype myself up with music when I skate and that gets me going
@@icarus4ever48 I do the same with the music. I recommend downloading the app headspace. Its what I use and you just listen to whatever recording is on there. After a few sessions I noticed my mind entered the same state as it did when I was meditating and just really helped me to stop over thinking tricks.
@@icarus4ever48 that works too just situational like sometimes i want music blasting but other times i needa chill
Damn bro
this is so helpful im learning to jump down stairs right now
That’s awesome!!
I was struggling, I would always bail out halfway through. So, this is what i started doing. I’d count down from 3 in my head, go up to the stairs yell “DONT BE A PUSSY” and I would just go for it. Helped me alot
What I do is, while in the air, I just look at my feet and concentrate on the ollie movement. I don't look at the stairs nor at where I am landing, only what my feet are doing on the board, and especially how my front foot slides. That has helped me a tone with commitement. I also have a problem with doing straight ollies so I like to approach the stairs with a slight angle so that when I land, it will be a straight and clean land. Hope that these tips can help someone out there as well ;)
Same i have trouble keeping my shoulders straight so it’s not straight
@@cell2rare you can also try to swing your shoulders slightly the other way around. So, for example, if you naturally turn frontside, swing your shoulders in the backside direction just slightly. That's how I kept my flatground ollies straight.
I just look forward and ollie when the time is right :/
I found keeping my front arm straight out and pointing where I want to land. Helped keep straight
Thanks bro this really helped me Ollie a 4 stair which I’ve been battling for a couple months
my man i just landed my first kickflip cause of your vids
Super sick dude!
Only tip I have is look where you want to land. Helps me a ton getting up or down obstacles - kinda gives you a boost. you pretty much end up where you're looking if you have speed
I finally have my ollies down and your ollie tutorial was the key to it! Thanks man and your a huge motivation for me skating! Thank You
Happy I could help you out!
So informative and clear on the goal. Thanks for your help man! I could only roll fast off a 2 stair before this
Love the vids bro! This "Why you cant" series is really helping me alot!! GOATED
Thanks again your videos are some of the best out there for learning tricks
Dope vid SB! One good tip for knowing when to pop is popping right when you see the nose of your board pass the edge of the top step.
Sean, another great video with great camera work, slo-mo, etc. Most importantly the thoughtful tips. Thank you
Thanks! Trying to bring the best to yall!
Such a good video, keep this up!!
I have skated stairs in years. Old knees and ankles can’t take it much. But I’ve been itching to hit some stairs. Great video.
good timing :0 (loved the music sync)
thanks for the video bro. I appreciate you.
THANK YOU! for adding both goofy and regular footed!!
No problem! Received comments from last videos that it was helpful adding that.
thx bro this helped 🙏🏼
I just landed my first 3 block today🙏🏽it felt SO good my favorite thing to do in skateboarding

I've been seeing a nice 2 set that isn't too steep and I've got ollie's up and down curbs and I want To get that set as my first ollie down stairs I'm pretty confident, go for it?
Thanks for another informative video Mr. Brown
You're very welcome!
I’m getting my popsicle board within the next 3 days but i just subscribed to your channel. Your Ollie video helped me learn on a WALMART board 😂. Great content, I hope to learn how to kickflip and skate stairs soon.
Yessir 🔥! Never been able to stomp that when a was a kid! Now 20 years later at 34 I've just learnt today how to jump 2 stairs Ollie consistently ! All thanks to you and the tip for the front foot position 🙏 living the dream again 🔥🔥🔥
Let’s go!!
Exactly what I needed .
Glad I could be there for ya!
Man, thank you, I was having problems but this really helps
Great vid 👍🏼
That makes me happy! 😊
This was super helpful
Legit did my first 2 stair today and now watching this video hopefully will help for larger stair sets
Congrats!
This video is literally perfect timing! Just 2 days ago I was trying to relearn 3 stairs but for some reason I just couldnt commit! Because of the constant impact while trying the 3 stair my right knee hurts but once I'm fine Im going to go try again!
Lol same bro!!! Before, 3 stairs were pretty easy for me, but now it is sooo scaryyy. I tried to to them again and I would just kick the board. Commitment is my issue :((
@@fercam4792 Same!!!!! I suck at commiting, I always feel like In gonna die haha
Make sure you’re landing with your knees bent!
the music editing is amazing
thank you bro, found a new park near me with a stair set and really feeling like trying the 3 stair, seems a little sketch but i think i got it
funny you should post that today, I was just talking to people about how I was able to jump stairs as a kid but now I can't even handle a 3 stair. thanks for the advice!
Haha! I just seem to have the right timing.
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Love your videos bro so good
Thank you!!
I love you for making this video
I love you!
in my first year of skating, I definitely started jumping things I wasn't ready for, messed up my ankle 2 times because of it, since then I've been avoiding ledges haha, my goal this year is to get back into them and see how I go!
I cant commit stairs but i will try again soon after watching this video!
Be sure to check out my Why You Can’t Commit video too 👍🏽
Same I can go down a 2 stair without the Ollie but with the Ollie I’m so scared

thanks
finally, a good skate channel based in NC.
ive been ahving a problem commiting to this 7 stair at my school i have a video on my channel but ima definitely try these thank you
Tried my first stair set today, it was 5 steps but wasn’t too big so I was down to try it. Kept landing and shooting out and my last try I snapped my deck. Now that I got some tips on landing I’m hoping I can get it done tomorrow 🤞🏼
Get it!
Scenery is beautiful in this video ngl
🤩🤩🤩 campus life
Bro I getting so close to landing my first 2 stair because of you I literally can’t thank you enough
so do you still skatinggg??
Are you landing 5 stairs now???
Nice video bro
Where I live there is no smaller stair sets so after a few years of skateboarding I did my first stair set (a five stair lol) I wish I had something smaller to learn as I would of learnt so much faster and built good confidence
Nice I skate too I watch your video now I can skate stairs thanks
Thx
Yo I love your vids man your such a good teacher I came here looking for why you can't 5-0 grind for my friend I'm sure if you make why you can't grind or boardslide videos it will help alot keep up the good work man have a great day👍
I will have those coming sometime this summer since I'm back home near my local skatepark!
I don't have much stairs around here but I did need this for the future
🔥🔥🔥
Hello Sean! Have a great day
You too Michal!
Nice! You will get hurt way less if you just always commit and try to roll away
2:57 BRO THANK YOU I was wondering why my board would just turn all weird on me
this man is an absolute legend
Thank you King 😤🔥
I landed my first 4 stair ollie yesterday!
heyy could you do a 'why you cant 3 shuv'
Hey bro i need help with my 360 flips. I watched ur videos about it but I cant seem to get the 360 shuv part. Its like my back foot won't go under the board to make it flip. I would love some help❤
i love you tysm for this series so fucking helpful
when i saw this vid i rlly try and it worked :)
That's awesome!
Good video
I really want to start off doing a two stair but for some reason it is really hard to find like a two stair or even a three stair where I live but also I get nervous in a public area
Yup, that's a tough one at times
Sean!!
Hey you!!!
Landed my first 2 stair and it felt so unreal!
This is a great video, nice editing and shit... maybe I'll try to commit to a 2 stair today !
i didn´t learn english to get a better job and life i´m a liar. I learned it to understand the incredible Sean Brown´s explications about why i can't do things and how to fix it.
♥
Haha if that's true that's amazing!
@@seanbrownskating trust me. (Don't know why i wrote " ` " but what ever hahsh)
I haven’t skated in 8 years, I’m 26 got a new board a week ago and I got my kick flips Ollie’s and shuvits down. Earlier today I Ollied down a 3 stair and landed a few but when I watched the footage I kind of mobbed it a little like rocket boarded, something I need to work on but I was proud of myself even though it wasn’t Steezy haha
thanks landed it clean cause of you
But you put in the work! Nice job!
Just did my first seven stair yesterday. What a coincidence!
Awesome!
The overall quality of your videos got better.
Trying! Thanks!
From what I’ve noticed when I try to do stairs Is a don’t commit, anyone got tips for that? Like I’ll try to ollie but I’ll just jump down the stairs or something like that
I’m up to 5-6 stairs now for my Ollie
This is my first time trying to do a stair and it’s a 4 stair. I landed with 1 foot but I don’t know why I can’t with 2 so I hope this video helps
I landed my first 2 stair in the church we skate through, it was tight and there's an extra curve down after that so I was scared that my Rear Trucks will get stuck but nah it was badass!
I can perfectly Ollie and clear set but when I’m about to land my foot don’t land on feet or just one foot or my board flip on the ground when I land on it
this guy just flexes on us all by skating switch as well 😂😭 good video though dude, keep it up
May I request you to do why u can’t 180 down a stair set
I did my first 2 stairs i didnt do it with ollie but i will try it when i go at the spot
Still progress!
I go the same skate park as you
Hey Sean. What advice would you give if I can't get my ollies high while moving but I can get the height while stationary?
Just keep practicing them. They will come in time. Make sure to tuck up your knees high as you jump.
If you can jump a curb, you can jump a 10 stair, here's why:
Everything is the same and you really only need a good ollie,
The only factors that ever change is drop and speed.
Learn how to account for both of these, and stairs will come naturally. A 3 stair should feel like a curb when you warm up to it. It isn't this technical or this complicated. Land like you land flatground, the impact and speed if you calculated them right will simply go through your body.
Remember to keep them knees bent on the landing.
easier said than done
@@samuelwhiting2265 it's all mental.
Have you ollied 10 stair tho?
@@tweakybastard9072 yes I have, I'm currently learning inward heelflips so i can do them on stairsets.
Skranhund imma problem is I can do stair sets it’s just sometimes I can do them and than sometimes where I just kick the board out I have Ollies down but idk why I get scared to do them
Seems like a good vid
😎
whats the biggest stairs set you oillied??? im having a hard time with 5 stair
A slightly elongated 6 stair
next video idea : ‘why you can’t 3 shuv’ :3
Hey guys so I’m soooo close to landing kickflip but I just can’t seem to get it. Any advice?
Just keep trying, if your close than you're probably doing it right, you might need to flick your foot harder if its flipping too slow and vice versa, and make sure to try to catch it with your feet in the air instead of it hitting the ground before your feet get on it(if you're doing that)
Just commit more watch tutorials...
try different shoes if you have multiple pairs, also glue and duck tape may help with slowing the wear of your shoe.
Jump straight up and try just landing your front foot
I can skate stair sets but my ollies look bad. Any tips?
Dude I’ve been watching some of your videos today and just noticed you’re skating at the park in Apex, that’s crazy! I grew up in apex and still live in the area. You local?
Yup! Less than 10min away from the park 👌🏽🔥
That’s crazy, I just picked up a board from apex outfitters to start skating again. I’m 32 now and haven’t touched a board in like 20 years. Your videos are much appreciated
and knowing how to bail is one of the most important things
So I can use this video also to Ollie over something?Because I guess it works the same way I thing.
Yup! Just be sure to tuck your knees up more as you jump 👍🏽🔥
@@seanbrownskating Thank you very much :). Continue the good work ,you have actually helped me a lot. :)
what should i do if the stair set has longer steps
My local park is like that. You just have to go faster. A way to practice it is finding a drop about the same height and work on jumping down it faster and faster each time. That way you can work up the confidence
But it’s cause like I have a good Ollie and I can do them them easily like of a 3 stair but when I do like a 5 stair I sorta rocket them I just can’t level them???
when I ollie a staircase, my front foot lands on the ground and my back foot stays. how can I fix this?
It was a battle for me to Ollie a 2 set of 3 (6 stair) I landed it once and then the try after I landed it, I got a hot pocket and then rolled my ankle
I like how he shows goofy and regular
Even though I haven't done it yet, the park i go to has a quarter before the stairs and I have been learning to drop in with my feet in my ollie position, which will help when its not packed.🤣
Nice!
I cant find anywhere with stairs!! How do i find sets of like 3 or 2?!
Look for a local elementary school on the weekend 👀 that’s where I found my first 3 stair
If you can get down a curb you can get down a 2, practice on the smallest set or ledge you can find. Go up one or two steps as you get more comfortable. I use to freak out about it until I just kept jumping down the stairs until I was ready to land on the board. Pre TH-cam days. Now that I’m older and am having the same issue I’m reminded that your fear is your worst enemy with skateboarding.
nice tanjiro griptate, where did u get that?
edit:i actually watch this for a friend,so I will be the one motivating him!
A homie! @christian_kenney on instagram designed it for me
i’m struggling with a 2 stair :D
Im trying this 4 stair, and i get on top of it and im like im gonna do this easy and then when i go to ollie i become scared in the air and commit
Do you look at your feet or at the edge before you ollie?
Mentioned at 4:51 I look at my feet first to make sure I'm set up, then I look at the edge of the stair to get the timing right
I need help with skating I been skating for 7 months and I can barely Ollie
