One of the few songs where Geezer gets to over-dub some basslines for two bass parts simultaneously during a guitar lead also overdubbed as a dual part. Makes it challenging to choose what to play when performing with a band.
Ozzy Osbourne is struggling w/ Parkinson's disease as well as other disorders to his nervous system... He suffered an ATV accident years ago and a recent fall made his injuries worse... So, he is unable to perform at present but still sings and records music in the studio. Such a groundbreaking song by Black Sabbath in 1970... it was written about the Vietnam war at the time and Sabbath's second album was originally called 'War pigs'... but the record company feared retaliation from pro-war factions, so they changed the album title to 'Paranoid' (after the hit single from the record) The cover had a soldier in uniform brandishing a sword and shield - nothing to do w/ the album title 😂 Ozzy Osbourne was not actively involved w/ lyrics in Black Sabbath - he had ideas that he would suggest and would contribute vocal melodies to the music.... Geezer Butler (bass) was tasked w/ writing the lyrics to Ozzy's vocal melodies. Tony Iommi (guitar) would come up w/ a guitar riff and Bill Ward (drums) would give a tempo & arrangement to the riff - Geezer would join in and Ozzy would have a vocal idea. Years later, Ozzy complained that he was never taken seriously in Black Sabbath. He didn't play an instrument and the band members didn't have the patience to deal w/ his creative thinking... By 1976, the band went in a direction w/ the album 'Technical ecstasy' and Ozzy hated the record... drummer Bill Ward sang on tracks that Ozzy refused to sing. In hindsight, Ozzy was right and the album failed commercially. The last Sabbath album 'Never say die!' in 1978 was another commercial failure and the band could not focus past the drugs and alcohol to write a new record... Ozzy was fired in 1979 and Tony Iommi began working w/ singer Ronnie James Dio on the Sabbath album 'Heaven and Hell'. As it turned out, Ozzy did have talent in the studio... His biggest assets turned out to be his mental handicaps - because he would easily get bored, or lose concentration, a track had to be really good to get his attention or he would not work on it... When guitarist Randy Rhoads joined Ozzy's solo band in 1980, he showed Ozzy some of his original music that was nothing like Black Sabbath... Ozzy would hear Randy play a track and his ears would perk up and he'd go, "Let's do that one". Randy was also a guitar teacher, so he had a lot of patience to listen to Ozzy's suggestions in the studio. That was how Ozzy's solo hits like - 'Crazy train'..."I don't know" ... 'Mr. Crowley'... 'Flying high again'... etc. came together... and his ideas were brilliant and were never appreciated in Black Sabbath. Bassist Bob Daisley was hired to write lyrics to Ozzy's vocal & song ideas. If u listen to Randy Rhoads' work w/ his band Quiet Riot, u can hear the upgrade in quality when he joined Ozzy's band... It comes down to musical chemistry and Ozzy had brilliant songwriting chemistry w/ Randy Rhoads... Tragically, Randy Rhoads died in 1982 in a small engine plane crash on tour... Thankfully, Ozzy was able to work w/ other talents on subsequent records like guitarists Jake E. Lee... Zakk Wylde... etc.
In my opinion,, One of the greatest anti-war songs of all time. 🔥❤️🔥

Been watching your videos lately and I like the taste your channel has. Humor, music etc. I just needed to get a bigger sample before I Sub’d. Seems perfect that this video was the one that got me. One of my favorite songs of theirs. Not just good music but substance in the lyrics.
Awesome! Thank you! ☺️
grandpa got himself a purple heart in the Nam as a tracker. his dog's name was sweep. i signed up for the Marines a week before 9-11. i was tired of working at Walmart (9-11 landed on me). I remember my mom asking me if i still wanted to do it, on the morning of. i told her that i didnt care... i said i was going to do it. so i did it. got used and abused for GWOT. got in then got out. did my time, just like grandpa. he called it the next Nam. how right he was. didnt know the full meaning of his words then. i know now in my 40s and after putting him and so many others in the warriors ground. you start to ask yourself why. sadly the answer is not comforting in any way. there is no why, where, or when. you go where they send you. and its not up to you. its up to the "people". and the people are dumb. im old now. and i will not send anyone to some bullshit war to line pockets.

He is there, way b4 his time. Our time
One of the few songs where Geezer gets to over-dub some basslines for two bass parts simultaneously during a guitar lead also overdubbed as a dual part.
Such a groundbreaking song by Black Sabbath in 1970... it was written about the Vietnam war at the time and Sabbath's second album was originally called 'War pigs'... but the record company feared retaliation from pro-war factions, so they changed the album title to 'Paranoid' (after the hit single from the record) The cover had a soldier in uniform brandishing a sword and shield - nothing to do w/ the album title 😂
Ozzy Osbourne was not actively involved w/ lyrics in Black Sabbath - he had ideas that he would suggest and would contribute vocal melodies to the music....
Lee... Zakk Wylde... etc.
I'm wearing my black sabbath hat today. 🔥 🔥 🔥. Faith no more did an awesome cover of this song.
