I don't really like this sort of thinking. It's true that the likes of Boris, or Trump in America's case, have pulled back the veil, or taken off the mask to show exactly what our politics is about, but it's naïve to suggest that they've singlehandedly brought down what was an otherwise honourable establishment. I'm not gonna defend the guy, as he is as much of a bumbling oaf as can be, but he does have the misfortune of taking office at the end of a 40 year project to fleece the country for everything it's worth. By all means call out his flagrant lying, but don't forget that his predecessor did austerity in the name of getting down the deficit/debt, and the one before that sent us to war in Iraq for "weapons of mass destruction", and the ones before that sold off our utilities and homes to a private market that would improve service/investment and get prices down.
Politics for much of its existence has been about lies and one rule for us and another for them. It's why I roll my eyes when people start acting like a Labour government will somehow make things better, when in reality, what people mean is they won't make things worse, but they're not going to actually fix any of the damage the Tories have already done.

Not for their intended purpose, but as warm banks. What on earth would someone who was transported from 2005, who hadn’t gone through all the conditioning and acceptance of lower standards that we’ve had to get used to in the intervening years, think of the UK now? How incredulous would they be at the idea of food and warm banks being a necessity in the UK of 2022? along high taxes, crumbling public services, low to zero growth and serious national decline on the world stage. This isn’t just because of external shocks, it’s because we were already vulnerable to these things because we’ve had the worst PM and government in history.

existed and were even considered 'the norm' in Britain ! As a 72yo average working class man, it almost
brings me to tears to recall the society of my youth, then look around me at the Britain of 2022! It does not
seem possible that in a short 50 years, the incredible fervor for and belief that life was shouting at me that
anything was possible for a working class slum kid like me, and so it proved.
In 2022, I feel like I'm looking at the beginning of the final days of a once proud nation on the verge of cultural,
social and political catastrophic collapse! And one that has been clearly, albeit in the shadows, orchestrated!
All the signs have been there throughout, if one cared to look, but sadly we were conditioned to become a society
all about 'me', thereby ensuring few would be looking beyond themselves. Orwell would be proud of how
    efficiently this has occurred.

It started with Thatcher and Reagan's unholy alliance unleashing the controls on banking and capital that were put in place after WW11, the post war contract. Blair spread enrich the rich policies around an at that time moribund Europe, I have to say largely aided by the EU, and Cameron and Johnson ignored any critique or future planning, clueless and totally unprincipled, and only interested in 'redatary economics. This is worse and longer term in Britain but the same things are happening in much of Europe, especially now the one person with some common sense and a little humanity Merkel, is gone. We did need more stringent measures, if they are put up properly and in quick time they save the amount of time under restrictions and problems in the long term. We've had hundreds of thousands killed and millions disabled from covid, Asian countries that had more stringent measures and acted more quickly had 5 - 10x less deaths and long covid rates. Something many anti lockdown loons fail to acknowledge
