    I've never called Jimmy Page sloppy. He came out with his own style that I love. That's not being sloppy. That's called creativity. JP is legend.

    • @youreatoilet
      @youreatoilet 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I prefer to say loose not sloppy (I say the same about Hendrix's playing at times), he definitely had a relaxed approach at times but context is key, a lot of his playing especially on ballads etc was incredibly tight and accurate, but when on their raw rock n roll/blues sounding songs he let loose and played with an attitude that some perceived as sloppiness. I personally love it, he did that raw untamed sound so well. Lets also not ignore the fact that he did definitely have a rough patch towards the end of 70's and 80's when he was strung out on heroin and clearly was not performing at his best, but that shouldn't have a bearing on his overall playing

    • @yearginclarke
      @yearginclarke 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I kinda laugh at people calling him sloppy, in the sense that it means he was a horrible player or something. For whatever sloppiness he may have had...it doesn't really bother me at all to be honest. What matters more to me is that his work stands the test of time.
      As the comment above mentions, alot of guitarists from that era tended to be very loose in style. Context is definitely important when examining why those guys played like that. Alot of that loose style of playing came from them being in a time when improvising and not playing songs *_exactly_* like the studio versions every single time was pretty normal. In these instances, players tended to keep the most important riffs and licks intact, and jammed out a little on other parts where there was room to mess around and change things.
      Some of those old improv performances are truly amazing...take Hendrix's Red House at NY Pop Festival 1970 or Johnny B. Goode for example. And of course other times it would come out sounding more on the sloppy side. That's just the nature of that improvisational approach. Over time the more technical guitar stuff came about, which naturally started to change the focus to more precision in live performances. But of course, in the first place...those more technical styles were directly influenced by Page, Hendrix and other such prominent figures from that era. I'm sure that if being technically precise at all times HAD been their main focus, they could have easily done it.

      Bonham wasn’t a metronome either, and that makes the feel. It’s not about perfection although I would say Jimmy could have practiced his way out of the habit of hitting unmuted strings in solos lol

    Great job man! I too also chase the JP "dragon" . love the methodology you did to take every knob from 0 to max as reference point, then dial to the right spot on each. And you are for sure squarely in the ballpark, nice job. I can't for the life of me though understand how you can be that close to a 100w HW plexi reissue on 7 and not have your skull implode :-) ! Did you have an attenuator on at all?

    I tired to add 2meg pot instead of vol 2 which I connected in series to "volume 1" bright capacitor. It allows to adjust cap bypass at low settings of "volume 1". Very useful for those, who don't use channel 2.

    Most enjoyable video. I dig your dedication for your love of Jimmy Page, a hero to all of us inspiring guitarists. Consider this. Jimmy's amps are on full. Meaning his volume knobs are at 7 or 8. And there is the P.A system to consider. That P.A has to fill Earls Court, that's loud! For those of us who have been to a live show the size of an Earls Court know that feeling, that vibe one gets at a live show. It's incredible. Trying to recreate that guitar sound at home or even at a club sized room is unrealistic. The volume from your amp is just not going to be there. But, with a good Les Paul, Telecaster and Marshell 1959 type amp, we could get close enough. And those of us who are fortunate to have played on that kind of set up, knows the feeling, the vibe that can bring. Rock on.

      Pretty sure this actually was done pre MSG 73 . A set of JJ6550s will produce all the seventies tones after this show in a real early 70s 1959 marshall with decent preamp tubes . With a set of vintage TungSol 6550s it sounds like Page no matter how you set it or what preamp tubes , I think he actually used the tungsols as KTs from the day were very dark , my 54' KT66s are too dark to emulate his tone .

    volume: 7
    bass: 2
    middle: 6
    treble: 5
    gate: 3
    presence: 7

      @jaredbader1415  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Will! Yes the RAH pedal is fantastic. It is incredibly dynamic and will work with most amps. It takes some tweaking, I've found, to get just the right platform for the pedal. It can sound a bit on the ugly side without the right setting on your amp so you really have to be patient. Once dialed in though you can get really close to that tone from that RAH show. Also I've found that some amps work great with it on almost any setting like the Marshall DSL 2000 loves that pedal.

      I really like the weird way it behaves with low frequency chords, like a fuzz -very cool! Great for No Qtr rhythm.

    Great work! This is very close. The slap back echo is key isn't it; I never realised how important that was. I think JPs tone was so bright with the LP and Plexi is because he was used to a Tele into a Vox then a Hiwatt. The Tele middle and bridge positions with the slap delay and drive are very close to JPs tone imho.

    • @jaredbader1415
      @jaredbader1415  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you are absolutely right! His tone was brighter than other LP players and his tone with that Tele in early Zep is so good. I read that he went with the LP mostly for sustain but yeah he really retained the highs and let JPJ carry the bottom.

    are your pickups out of phase? I had a 1971 50 watt JMP and those old ones are super dark. I used to run bass on 0 everything else on 10.

    • @zachariahwade8482
      @zachariahwade8482 ปีที่แล้ว

      My stock 71 50 watt JMP is a bright amp. I have to run the bright vol on 6 to negate the bright cap and even then I keep the treb and pres low or tame it with the guitar controls.
      Jumpering is another option but I prefer the tone unjumpered.
      OTOH on my 69 Super Bass, you definitely have to crank the Treb, Mid, Pres and keep the bass low as it’s much darker.
      Sounds like your JMP 50 is Bass spec or has been modded to be darker.

    Hi. Thanks for sharing. Liked. Some tips to think about:
    What you hear on recording is voicing of cab by mic - it is far away from real cab sound. Try to voice with condenser mic thru good Hi Fi stereo system so the sound pressure from these speakers will dominate. Believe me you will enjoy twice.
    Belle epoch has very good delay line, but its booster is rubish....it is op amp, not JFET transistor like real EP, but what making it rubish is low pass cut off around ~1kHz. Real EP with Jimmy's setting are flat +9dB boost till ~1kHz, than it has another +3dB at ~2.2khz and than linear rise slope ~12dB/decade . I think your stand alone booster is doing it, but not belle epoch.
    What do you think about Wah pedal? There is an opinion it was always ON, at treble position.

    • @jaredbader1415
      @jaredbader1415  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      +1 on a Real good Plexi Pedal.. There's lots of excellent ones out there. I've got a Cmatmods Brownie which is great.. Understand its just as much the pickups as many bands used Plexi Marshalls (Hendrix, Angus Young, Blackmore + Countless Others) yet none sounded like J Page.The "oddball' (unique)thing in JPs signal chain was the Low Power T Top Pickup in the bridge and the Much Hotter PAF in the neck!.. That Weird Combo is NOT commercially available as a Pickup Set from any big manufactures or on any 'Factory Les Pauls'

    If you want to go down the Jimmy Page Rabbit Hole…. Pick up wiring scheme is extremely important. I’m from the “It’s all in the fingers” school of thought…. but Jimmy wired his pickups out of phase. This is one of the most overlooked details when someone is trying to get close to JP’s tone
