Where I went to college, engineering was cutthroat. I didn’t envy them. And for all that, doctors generally make more and have better job security. I’d advise my kids to go to med school.
Hello, i am 14 years old and have just started college classes. I am working towards my bachelors in electrical engineering but im also planning to go into medical school. I was wondering what claases you took in addition to engineering because alot of people say you need years of premed classes.
Congrats on pursuing EE and premed. :) The prerequisite courses you need to take in specific really depends on your undergraduate requirements as well as the particular medical schools you are looking at because each can have slightly different requirements (just take a quick peak at their websites!). In my case, the prerequisite courses I needed to take in addition to my mechanical engineering degree included organic chemistry, biochemistry, and biology. Some of the others like gen chem, calculus, psychology, sociology, and writing courses were already required in my degree. The reason some people might be saying you need "years" of premed courses could be because you need to take gen chem before organic chem, and organic chem before biochem, etc. because there is a progress of courses. However, you don't need to dedicate years to solely premed courses, you can take them alongside your engineering courses (albeit this is really difficult with the engineering... I ended up taking these classes after I graduated). Hope this helps!
What I've heard from a pair of brothers (one doing MD and other doing an Engineering PhD)....80% of PhD engineers could succeed through a MD while only 20% of MD students could make it through an Engineering PhD program.
I don’t doubt that. Engineering was cutthroat where I went to school. I just have a hard time understanding why they put themselves through it. I guess I’m glad somebody does.
Very cool! I’d often see debates of medical school cs engineering school so it’s pretty cool to see someone with first hand perspective of both 😂
You'd be every Indian parent's dream child haha

@@alyssa-do thanks!
Do you think the problem solving skills you learn in mechanical engineering help you in medschool ?
Yes!!
At what age did you start medical school?
26 😊
