@@moviemusicvideochannel7102I think the reason is slightly misleading is because almost all of his points could technically be applied to all of the engineering principles. Even the hands on part, there are very few engineering branches that will not require some level of hands on work or study. Honestly this videos works better at deciding whether one should consider studying an engineering degree as a whole rather than specifically mechanical engineering.

I was in a "math and physics" class in high school and I was very good at these subjects. Whole my family, friends and teachers were pressuring me to go to a university of technology and become an engineer but I really love a medical things. So I went to mechanical-medical engineering. Now I'm on my 3rd semester (1.5 year) and eventhough to this moment I passed all my courses and I didn't have major problems with studying I realized that engineering is completely not for me. I'm just not interested at all about mechanical, engineering stuff and I don't see myself in that industry but on the other hand I love "medical part" of my major eventhough it's only about 20% of whole time. In November I was so sad and depressed about my situation that I decided to quit my college and go to emergency medicine to medical university and become a paramedic. It was really difficult to make such a decision and tell my parents about everything (they were not delighted but accepted it and try to support me) and now I'm much better. My point is that if you fell that a major you're studing or job you're doing isn't for you better quit it because our life is to short to do things you don't like

Hi. I was planning to exactly what you did. I’m also just finished my third semester of mechanical engineering but I’m not doing well and rapidly losing interest. I’m taking a little break from school this semester to do something with my depression about this. I’ve had interest in the medical field and emergency medicine too so it’s nice to see someone who’s in basically the exact same situation as me. I want to ask how you decided to switch to the medical field? Was there an opportunity for you to see what the medical field is like? Was it more of a leap of faith that you would like medicine after taking a couple medical related classes? What advice do you have for someone who’s looking to transfer from engineering to medicine? Because for me I’m struggling to decide since medicine and engineering are completely different and if I switch I’d basically have to start over.
      Thanks.

I’ve just graduated and honestly the most important quality to have is grit and determination. I would say that 70% of my degree was just pushing through and not giving up, a lot of other degrees might also require it but in mech I believe we had the hardest moments of problem solving ,critical thinking, team work and time management. Would recommend the degree but I suggest everyone to get involved into student design teams/internships/ personal projects. Idk about the world but in my university we only designed possibly 30% of the time in the degree it self most of my proper learning happend during doing projects and student teams

I've been an engineer my whole life, i suck at math. Engineers are born, growing up building stuff, taking things apart to find out how they work. As i got older i bought a 3d printer, got into arduinos and sensors built my own drone. Learned how to weld, learned how to make furniture. Last year my significant other said "Why the hell don't you become and engineer?". So i got my GED, got accepted into a bridge program and i'm on my way to becoming an engineer. I have a feeling the shittier jobs are going to be very much in front of a computer, but i wanna work for a startup so i get to actually prototype stuff, building stuff. Only this time getting paid to do it.

Mechanical engineering is for those who are curious about how things work, enjoy problem-solving, and have a strong background in math and physics.
It's ideal for people interested in designing and building machinery, who enjoy working with technology, and seek a versatile career in industries like automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing. Attention to detail is also key.

As a technician We deal with a high problematic number of issues with newer vehicles especially with their electrical module(s) systems. I was not highly mathematical in high school but a little refresh may help me understand it more especially now that I’m an adult. I’m definitely patient lol and I like to see things get fixed and solved, feels good. I also have Ase certifications for this industry. Which are very difficult to achieve. I also learned how to read wiring diagram schematic’s over the years in this industry. I’m thinking of starting school after winter wish me luck. I don’t have any financial resources to pay for this school but I will let god handle it and guide me through it.

ME from CMU. Worked for 40 years designing equipment for the nuclear power plants of submarines and aircraft carriers, as well as other Government projects. Three things that were not mentioned, but may not be initially obvious. You do not have to memorize equations, but you do have to know their applicability to your problem and their limitations. Second, you are given more than an hour to solve the problem. Third, there may be more than 100 different ways to solve the problem; you need to find one (or several) that best meets the overall project objective (could be cost, weight, space envelope, manufacturability, manufacturing time, etc.).

Problem I see with this video: Most engineers will only fill a niche of what you showed they do. The hands on part mostly boils down to quality control or testing of your specific pieces. Documentation plays a much bigger role than one might think. Technical drawings are pain in the a**. Depending on the job dealing with bureaucrats is a pain. You will not build any machine from scratch, alone, ever. You will deal in great, or more detail than you hoped for, with your component. If you get to be a project owner, not much technical problem solving is involved anymore.

I've had an almost 40 year career as an ME with a P.E. license. I would have to say its been very rewarding. I have traveled all over the world solving very hard problems to the adulation of millions of people and glamorous women falling at my feet!.. Then I woke up..:). The first part is actually true and honestly I love hard technical challenges that usually involve a lot of math and physics. It paid pretty well.. In fact it paid well enough that I could afford to retire at age 52! hard to complain about that. The biggest downside for me was the lack of professional respect. You see I was born in the UK and any technician that fixes a washing machine calls themselves an "engineer". This is mostly why I emigrated to the USA where the term "engineer" means someone who is a technical professional (train drivers notwithstanding). Now I have no problems with technicians. I have worked with some fabulously smart/talented techs in my career and I could not have done my job without them. But Nurses do not get to call themselves doctors and its a similar difference.. Note in the UK medical doctors start their real training straight out of high school at age 18 and do a 5 year course.. Engineers do 4 years and often have Masters degrees so the education level for a Primary care Dr is about the same as an engineer and should command the same level of respect.

Just realized that I should’ve become a mechanical engineer. Lol, my story is actually stupid af, I was number one in high school at math, physics, and chemistry, but because my best friend pursued a law degree, I applied for this too. It was the dumbest decision ever, I really feel out of my thing, when I was a teen - I created a C++ game, was interested in robotics, dreamt about creating my own super jet. Winded up singing papers, here I go. The only time I feel good - when I read books and repair my car, or phone, or whatever.
Really want to quit this crap and start anew, I don’t care if I’m too old (25), it’s never too late.

My friend, it's never too late. I made the decision to switch to Mechanical Engineering/CAD construction when I was 30 years old after spending 3 years taking my BSc in Software Engineering, and then 4 years in the market. Here in sweden we have the option to go to a "Profession School/Uni" that takes 2 years with a high degree of practical work out in the industry so it might be different for you, should you entertain the idea.
Don't believe in the sunk cost fallacy of your past efforts. I have an old friend that dropped law school and became an airline pilot, and now he's considering to drop that after doing it for years and do something else. It's okay to change your mind, because being able to like all those hours you spend at your work is crucial if you want to have an easier time advancing your career. And rid yourself of any imposter syndrome. I know it helped for me. /Jim

@@jimandersson1404 yeah you’re right. I’m just following the howl if you feel what I’m saying, not a good thing for me, apparently. We also have those schools in Russia, probably I should consider it as well. The only thing I’m really good at for now is probably English, though, cuz my math/physics knowledge has been affected by a huge break in the interim between my school and rn. Like, of course I read something here and there every now and again, but I’m not as good as I used to be, unfortunately.
So, I’m considering going to a school that’s kinda akin to the one you’ve just described, brush up on my science grasp and try to go to a uni in Europe or idk say Canada, looks like a great ambition that’s worth pursuing.

Edit: Sorry OP, you seemed to be fair when it dealing with Mech Eng and I was overreacting. I just have this opinion of all the people saying never to do Mech Engineering.
All you "smart guy" millennials always say stuff like this, don't do this don't do that, when mech eng. are out there making 7 figure salaries in 2030 making robots, space ship parts and androids, you decided to be a real wise guy and drop out of mech eng and do what software eng? You will regret everything you have ever done and consider ending it all when AI is making 90% of the code in this country but Mech Eng is working for SpaceX pulling in patent sharing and stock options.

I recommend studying Mechanical Engineering. Example my career history from Mercedes-Benz Automotive -> Marine construction -> Nucler Plant -> Offshore Spare part -> Oil & Gas refinery-> Military Tanks -> Steel Trader. The funny part is that all of this industries are connected somehow. Im more a Robotics and Digital Systems guy. Im just lazy with calculations. Mechanical Engineers are not limited and u don't really need connections to get in to business. Electrical license is the only thing holding us back 🤣🙄 I did study BBA before Mechanical Engineering. I can say Mechanical Engineering helps to understand how life works in practice and how to help you self to solve problems with different applications and principles. Also, it's harder for a mechanic or technician to scam a Mechanical Engineer 😉

Informative, but missing a lot of information and misleading in some areas. Input from more seasoned MEs would help give a more accurate picture. You didn't touch on areas like Manufacturing/Production Engineering, Quality Engineering, HVAC, Structural, and several others. A lot of ME jobs don't involve product design at all. Those that do rarely get into the theory behind the design or testing. It has been my experience that the math problems in school were much more difficult than on the job. Also, there was no mention of the impact the region has on pay. These are just a few things that come to mind. Please keep informing the public about one of the most versatile Engineering disciplines out there. As a fellow ME, I am 100% biased.

BS Mechanical Engineering 1983. Went to work as a process engineer for a military defense contractor. Promoted to a Procurement Engineer. Left to be a business owner and never looked back. What every engineer should study is entrepreneurship. Do you want to make money for someone else or for your self? If you think your smart take the money used for a masters and start your own business. Notice this young man talks about working for some corporation and climbing the corporate ladder. Good luck with that!

If you feel like you didn’t learn much in your high school classes, then there’s no shame in taking those classes again in college. Talk to people in your class and form a study group (for me this is easier said than done), go to a tutoring center at your school if you have one, or ask your professor for help. What year are you in?

Tbh yes it is harder for a girl to find a job. Think about it. The people who’s mangaging these companies feels they need and want someone strong and efficient to do the work while also thinking they would demand less. This is where they tend to look more on hiring men than women. But in general you have a good chance of getting a job but again don’t be surprised these people prefers men

    • @arlowelee
      @arlowelee 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I've heard generally in the job industry that there is a shortage of women in the stem field because it's a men dominated field. Employers nowadays are very progressive/inclusive and will actually seek women out over men in most cases because of that. so I think you will actually have an easier time finding a job compared to men.

Mechanical Engineering is not being a mechanic. That's the problem. They get a ton of applicants that are probably only smart enough to be a mechanic and only interesting in being a mechanic. I studied mechanical engineering because I liked math and then I saw lots of mechanics and businesses such as excavation companies that are heavily dependent upon mechanical equipment go broke. What happens is people just look at shiny objects without thinking about work or what their doing. If GM makes a crap car that you have to repair all of the time and then buy special tools to repair it they can make you go broke keeping them in business. John Deere can do that too with farmers. People don't have the mind to understand that a mechanic is like the guy in the truman show. Mechanical engineering is for life cycle costing and analyzing things like if it's more work to own a car or a bicycle in the city. If you summed up the real labor and real costs it can be more work to have to work repairing and cleaning your car than peddling a bike. And with one your sitting in a dark room alone, while the other your enjoying the scenery, and getting fresh. The electrical stuff messed up real engineering. they're doing things like building video games.
Mechanical Engineering is supposed to be for protecting your machinists, mechanics, and labor to make sure their work is going into something product. But I think everyone is crook these days it's playing games with monkeys trying to get a pellet. That's why you should major in real mechanical engineering.

I didn’t try in highschool math until senior year. If you are having doubts then take calculus 1, either in highschool or at a community college. That was the one class that settled for me that I can force myself to study and even enjoy math. If you are interested in the class, can do pretty well in it, and can make yourself study, then you can likely handle the math that follows in engineering. You don’t get into a physics degree level of math, though it will still be difficult.
