    The ravens in ASIOAF (GoT) work exactly the same way as pigeons do irl. Any raven cannot be sent to any location.
    There is some extra lore regarding ravens carrying messages but I would go into potential spoiler territory but you can probbly read about it in common asoiaf wikis

    Tbh I always wondered how these birds were supposed to know where everyone and everything was located.
    This does explain why in The Legend of Korra we hear nothing of Sokka's messenger hawk though. When it was ordered to fly to his grandma it probably just went in any random direction and died of starvation because it never learned to hunt due to its life in captivity.

      Message tied around their leg, this knowledge is so basic. It's a tiny note as well. That's why you can't write a whole analysis of a deceased king. You just wrote "The king is facking dead" and that would be the end of it. xD

    I think when a raven is used as a messenger on a show or in a book its a literary call back to Norse mythology. Odin had two ravens who reported to him on what was going on is the realms. Their names are hugin and muinin which translates to thought and memory.

    AsapSCIENCE Does fire/flames have shadow? Answer this, please!
    Consider this system: a candle with a flame, and use a lamp or sunlight for an external source of light. I think it depends on the intensity and the wavelength domain of the external source of light. Maybe also depends on the composition of the gas burning or the chemicals involved.

  • @Crosshill

    Imagine if game of thrones did use pigeons. It'd feel pretty silly, so I think George just made them canon work like pigeons do in real life, so it's a pretty good compromise i'd say

    They get lost, stolen and injured too, I've had to look after 3 that got exhausted and lost and had to be picked up. Sending a drone is probably more realistic.

    I saw a dead pigeon on the street once. It was dead because a falcon pierced it's insides while it was carrying it over a street and then accidentally dropped it. Ar car soon ran over it. That was one hell of a day.

  • @philophos
    @philophos 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wait, so am I right in thinking you can only use the pigeon once then? How would you get it back to the other side? It's a one way message? (I didn't really get the 'food' thing. How can a pigeon only have its food that far away in distance?)

    You said they "potetially" use the magnetic field, and right after that, that they have an internal compass. But isnt the internal compass only working with the magnetic field of the earth? So in consequence the pigeons use the magnetic field not just potentially right?

    When I see movies with people travelling all over the place and using a bird to send messages back and forth between two groups, both on the go, it makes me want to scream. (Ardeth Bay with his falcon in The Mummy Returns is a prime example). It just doesn't work that way!

    • @undercoverduck

      Ravens can memorise human faces so they either liked you, thought you were easy prey, or saw you as a threat
