as a Dutch person i recommend go to the vondelpark in the middle of the city it's A huge park with allot of free festivals and street musicians and theres just always something to do there
I have a funny story about that park 😂😇😶
My favourite place to go, we stay not far from vondelpark whenever we go to Amsterdam!
toeristenpark is het geworden
zoals de hele stad
i am going to go in amsterdam mate , could you tell me any website to see if there is any events these days ?
In the middle of the city? 🤣 not quite bro
Vondelpark -- visit without charge -- near the Van Gogh museum is such an awesome outdoor park with lots of green and space to hang-out.
It's a public parc not Yellowstone parc
William Alston Westerpark is even nicer...
Love Amsterdam! People just chill! We went to coffee shops and had lollipops, loved the canal cruise, pancakes, and the nice people.
hope we have a good time going next mth and worried alone with a child and only have limted time as on coach holiday tour too mini amsterdam 2nites on ferry and then amsterdam only have 5hrs.
I'm an American living in Germany and take the train to Amsterdam several times a year just to walk around and take pictures. I also didn't know about the free ferry. I'll be re-watching this video again before my next visit. Thanks!
Go to Albert Heijn AH supermarket for free coffee. You can also taste cheeses for free. Don't be in a hurry. Enjoy more.
Allard Freichmann that is nit impkrtant thing hahaha
fun fact about the Ferry you can go stay there how long you love XD as explain i asked my mother (when i was little) i wanted make 3 ride x3 i keep on that ferry for one hour XD it was pretty fun and you get great view about the water little bit.
Please remeber there 3 diffrent ferry's one go right one go left and the other going straith
Do you also travel to other parts of the Netherlands? There is so much more than Amsterdam.
Also you can keep walking around in the city, there is so much art everywhere! Even inside some shops.
Free access to rooftop terrace of Nemo museum as well. Great views, plenty of space. Bring lunch, spend an hour easily.
were is that pls? help taken 11yr old daughter as asd & adhd need too make our trip fun.
I love Amsterdam! I found it fascinating how there are several churches and a Buddhist temple all within the vicinity of the red light district. Such a wonderful place to visit.
Instead of the Skylounge go to the OBA (Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam; public library of amsterdam). It's almost next to the skylounge, it's got a not too expensive restaurant and almost the same view. The top of Nemo is great too.
Nice to see that people enjoy the capital of my country
Soviet Union same maar eindhoven is beter
It's a hooker country. I may consider going there someday to bang a couple of hookers.
My only regret is not spending long enough there to properly get into the culture beneath the surface. It is easy to be distracted by the "culture" that is on the surface (red light district etc).
InAUGral amsterdam is a country by itself. if you go into the nethetlands it is so different.
InAUGral
LMAO!!!! Good one!
One must also visit the many outdoor markets in Amsterdam.
*Bloemenmarkt* - cool flower market just a few minutes walk from Dam Square
*Albert Cuypmarkt* - lively street market just south of Heineken for food, crafts, clothes, you name it
+Tosh T the street markets will be in our third collaboration video :)
Wolters World are you in Amsterdam now?
+Wolters World 👍
@@woltersworld Are the markets all the same? Is there one near NH Collection Amsterdam Barbizon Palace on Prinz Henrikkade?
Oh no, I visited Amsterdam 5 days ago and missed out on most of these things, but I will remember them for next time. Thanks Wolter!
Amsterdam is amazing!
Hi guys! This video reminded when I was there in Amsterdam strolling around the city and I can hear many people speaking my language so made me smiles.......of course they don't know I understood what they are talking about hahaha..........
The Netherlands and my country are bonded because of the history long ago in the 1,500-1,600 you figure..........
That's interesting, which country are you from?
You should visit the public library near the Central Station, the restaurant at the top has a great view over the city
Awesome video 😉 It's always good to share tips of free things to do in a city.
Thanks for this guys. going in 2 weeks. Just a question, are you South African?
In Amsterdam right now..Wolter you r correct!. We did not take public transit once !! We walked for 6 days...every step was like in a museum....red light windows all over the city in the most unlikely places!!! Free ferry across the harbour , central train station excellent!!!
where do you get free ferry from please
just booked my ticket for the end of March! cannot wait! thanks for the tips :) xo
Loved the whole country!
Awesome stuff Im heading there in a couple weeks😊
My last trip to Amsterdam, I stayed on a houseboat north of the IJ; so my first thing every morning was a free ferry trip :-)
Thanks! The midday concert idea is GREAT as I wanted to do a day bus tour there from Germany!!
For great views, cafe blue at the kalvertoren has 360 views of the city. The elevator there is also something special, since it is completely made of glass and does not go straight up, but at an angle. Had great lemon cake there!
Dit a really great view you have to visit Rotterdam
You start to think like a Dutchman: as long as it's free! ;-)
Great tips! Getting high and people watching is on my to do list now haha
Those things are really fun! Love the bikes
Many thanks for your wonderful tips.
Great ideas. Thank you for the video and definitely going to check out Dutchified 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I like the idea about the free Dutch art!
Thanks for sharing the tips. I am going to Amsterdam next April.
+Richard Lund have fun! There are more free things in the comment section here so check some of these comments for tips too. And have a great time!!
Richard Lund April is the best time to visit the area. I was there April of this year to bike through the tulip fields. It was incredible! If you're interested, go to the Kuekenhof early one morning and wander then rent a bike nearby and ride in the afternoon. There are food trucks on the route for a quick lunch and plenty of places to stop and explore.
I love people watching!! And my husband thinks I'm so weird for it 😂
thanks for an very imformative video.
We love Amsterdam and we are lucky that it's only a 60-min flight from us. We have to check out the roof terraces next time.
I've just uploaded a video of a piano session I recorded in June in centraal Station Amsterdam! It was the song Titanium! I also like to walk around Vondelpark
Bernie in sydney
Very well produced video. Nice one Wolter!
+The New Travel thanks TNT :)
Another free suggestion (pay what you want) is a small museum in the Amsterdam medical centre and it is called museum Vrolik. It is a rather small area filled with medical dissections, growth and development stages, congenital defects, diseases, ... It is close to Amsterdam Arena.
Going there next month, could not time this video better
Other roof terraces with free admission, and a great view over Amsterdam:
- Volkshotel | Canvas - in Amsterdam East, you can go there easily and fast by metro/subway
- NEMO (you can go up from outside) - close to Central Station
- Public Library - topfloor - close to Central Station
And if you're willing/able to pay a small amount, get tickets to 'climb' the Wester Tower (Westertoren), closeby Anne Frank House/Museum.
Other free stuff: the public parks!
To mention two: Vondel Park (also great for people watching, it's close to Leidseplein and Museumplein), or visit the Albert Cuypmarkt and go for a picknick at Sarphati Park.
This video came at the perfect timing thank you!!!!
+Rana Shaalan you are very welcome
TIP! If you would like to discover the culture through delisious food there is also a free food tour in Amsterdam that is tip based every morning from 10:30 am from Dam Square.👍
You should visit Utrecht once. Close to Amsterdam, beautiful city centre and a lot less tourists than in Amsterdam. I would gladly show you around.
Mario Hendriks : Hi, I will be there around 23th June, would you please show me around there? :)
Do you know any other cities to visit? Plan to visit in December :)
Free things to do, Watch people.. really girl
I liked I’m subscribed and don’t skip commercials :)
hey there Walter. Amazing that you visit amsterdam again! I love your video's and if you need some tips or/and info it would be my plasure to help you. I am born and raised in amsterdam and studied cultural heritage. So let me know if you are interested ;)
cheers
I really enjoyed your video! Thanks
great wolter i watch you on regular basis
Thanks Ayman! I really appreciate you watching!
very good information. Thanks.
For a nice View of Amsterdam I Personally recommend the W. Manily the Restaurant Mr. Porter, weich is inside of the W. Yes this Restaurant but its a once in a livetime!
visit some places like Kampen in Overijssel. Between the 14th and 16th century it was the biggest and most important city in the Netherlands. Im tourguide there my company is called Het Kampen van... leave the west and visit some other parts we even have hills in the east and the south of the country. Overijssel is the most diverse of the country, the Northwest part of the province is very different from the Eastside
Which pass do you recommend? I am Amsterdam, Holland pass, Amsterdam pass?
You’ve also get a great view from the public library
There are also a lot of festivals that are free ^^
GREAT tips!
Free Wednesday concerts are free at times other than the summer.
Missed out free offers in Amsterdam.
1. Gassan diamond factory visit.
2. Street performance in the square close to the central Station, we watched couple of shows there.
Hey Wolter! I'm so glad to see you are in my country again! You should also visit the south of the Netherlands (North-Brabant and Limburg). The vibe is truly diffrent there! S' Hertogenbosch, Breda, Eindhoven are all great cities. Don't be afraid to contact!
All the love to the family,
Geert, a great fan.
+geert562 thanks Geert! Great name. One of my favorite students ever was a Dutch guy named Geert. So I assume you are just as awesome as him :)
Wolters World Thank you for the kind words! Keep up the great work!
hallo woltersword fellow mark travelers here!
hey chris. all the best to you!
Just wondering about the swing over the building, where do you put your bag while on it!??
Also visit the flea-markets
You are filming at Da Costakade!! It's the street where I live :D
What about in winter? Are all these things still as enjoyable?
Hello, can you tell me how to book a house boat in Amsterdam.
Visiting Amsterdam for first time .
were can i take my daughter? 11 were going on ferry 2nites and 5hrs in amstetdam
When you’re in the central station, take the train to Den Bosch. We have a lot of old buildings and canals too! And lots of great restaurants. It’s not that crowded as Amsterdam.
The local sounds South African lol, anywayy i looove Amsterdam, going back next year! 🙈🇿🇦
I am from Amsterdam, and this guy indeed sounds South-African. Way more than most Dutchies do.
@1 9 bruh why are you angry
That is because the Dutch and Afrikaan is a very similar language. Settlers went 1600 all the way from Europe to South Afrika, Afrikaans is 80% dutch.
When you want to see Amsterdam from above, you can go to hudsons bay. Great vieuw, i was there yesterday. Greets from a proud Amsterdam girl 🇳🇱❤
The hotel across the central station direction Dam is in Art Deco/Amsterdamse School style, also worth a look.
If you have some change you can get a specia beer from In de Wildeman or De Beiaard.
Cheap food is fries with a snack or in a pub some pubfood.
If you want a dish of food the Indonesian and Chinese restaurants are also very nice.
Cheers from The Netherlands.
I have to wonder what's so darned interesting about 1ft to the left (as you guys see it) of the camera?
Super
Good video again!
Too bad that I haven't seen you in Amsterdam. I could have shown you around (for free of course! hahaha), also places that most tourist never see. Well, maybe next time.. Just let me know when you're there!
I am travelling in August with my brother, do you have some places to recommend for us to see?
I heard that you can go to the cannabis college (near the oude church) and they have a library and a garden that you can visit for free.
I've been through the redlight so many times at night and I've literally never seen someone get arrested
my nephew got mugged
Hello Mark I have been loving your videos! You're very entertaining, fun to watch and very informative! I have now started to watch some of your wife's videos too. 😁 I do have a question for you, I'm traveling to Italy and I bought a power strip, with a search protector, and an adapter plug that goes with it. I've read a lot of blog posts and Q&A's that have multiple responses to whether or not I could use a serge protector. I will of course make sure all of my devices are dual voltage but my reasoning for buying the power bar was because I do have 2 appliances to plug-in and a tablet and 2 phones. Most of them just come with the surge protector and I forgot to look for one specifically that didn't have it. I greatly appreciate any response and keep up the great work!
+Roxanne Frannea that is a tough one. I have used a mini travel power strip without problems. Two plugs and four USB hubs without issue. May want to find one specific for international travel
hahaha these guys are so funny. Thanksssss
Where does the local come from?
Wait, you said you'll put links below but I only see links to camera equipment...
YEEEESSSSS The ferry. ....
Cheaper than London. Quite a bit cheaper actually. A good sized pizza for 6 Euros, kickboxing training for 12 euros at one of the top gyms in Europe, 2 euros for a coffee, 2 euros for a pepsi, 5.50 euros from Airport to Central Amsterdam. Some things are expensive I must admit but not everything
In the summer there are also free concerts in Vondelpark at the Openluchttheater. Check out their agenda at www.openluchttheater.nl/
Top 10
Is the ferry free in September?
You should Go to Rotterdam there’s much more to do, less coffeeshops and Its modern
More skyscrapers too; makes Amsterdam look overrated!
But we like coffee shops
Is the free ferry available during the winter?
love your channel, Mark! you are really helping me plan my vacation with your content =)
all year around for free.
Yes, the free ferry is available during the winter
Glad we could help :) yes that north ferry behind the train station is free all year long
Ligia Braga are you planning to go to The Netherlands in winter? It s gonna be coold (you should visit Rotterdam too! )
Top Geographic Netherlands and denmark :)
You forgot the cheese museum and the library where you also get great views
The cheese museum in Amsterdam is a tourist trap. Way to overprized products. There are many Dutch farmers that allow visitors or hold visitor days where they show off cheese making, etc and sell their own made cheese. Go there instead.
Iris van Laar but you're under no obligation to buy cheese, you can try for free.
Amsterdam is the most beautiful city in the world. So colourful, the red bricks works so well with the trees. I dont like how brown Paris looks. It makes it dull and ugly.
I AM AMSTERDAM’has removed’please inform the pople in you’r new videos.
Thank
Ah man you should visit Limburg, it is a beautiful place with so much to experience!
Lol apart from drinking there's absolutely nothing to do here.
Boris Valkenburg is great and beautiful, Drielandenpunt is a fun place to go, Maastricht is awesome, Snowworld Landgraaf is worth a visit and just over the border in Belgium in Maas-Mechelen you can find Maas-Mechelen Village for nice bargains (just like Roermond Outlet).
Marco That's what Karel said, there is nothing to do.
You also visit quarries there to find fossils from a time the Netherlands had tropical coral reefs.
I lived there in echt and loved every second..
Mark - my husband and i are gonna be there with our 10 month old baby.. is it ok to check out the red light district with her? I'm concerned if it's appropriate and if we'll get dirty looks! Also do tourists bring there kids there?
+Ammani Arulmurugesan Go early evening as soon as it gets dark. I saw a woman walking with her 3-4yo daughter and she did not seem concerned/rushed and I've seen many couples who either accidentally passed through or were there like everyone else just for the experience. It's quite touristy. Keep in mind, I never went late at night when I'm sure more actual business is being conducted. You'll be fine.
I don't know if you ever been to Texas or not but it's a place you need to see before you die. It's one of the greatest places on this planet. Need to come see it for yourself. There's a reason we say God blessed Texas
and we say: As a finishing touch, God created the Dutch ;)
As someone who never been to the states, I would probably visit the national parks in the west, NYC, LA, Washington DC and probably San Francisco. What does Texas have beside NASA and rodeo's that would be worth a detour? (honestly wondering, because I seriously want to visit the USA some day).
Nothings in texas except for guns hurricanes and trouble
I'm sorry but "Darth Vadar Stamp"? I don't get the reference, the captioning says the same thing and a quick google doesn't pull anything up. Someone care to explain? I must just be missing something here as I don't see anyone else asking about this. Thanks.
There are people who put on a costume and you can take a picture with them. Darth Vader, the grimm are staples in Amsterdam
The biggest and best free thing to do in Amsterdam is Kingsday!
Amsterdam is so hip my grandma broke it.
Your friend sounds like he has a South African English accent.
Erik Van Wyk if you notice, Afrikaans and Dutch sound similar
Please make The Don'ts of Visiting Syria...
'Don't visit Syria' - done
The city archive has free exhibitions and films all year round.
give me the link of his channel
+ayman ala TH-cam dutchifiedblog also subscribe link at end of video
what are those red vehicles @ 3:22?
zagonde they are called canta
thanks. googled that. interesting. I did think it looked small enough to go on the bike paths, and yep it is; but at first, I was thinking, that's a really tiny car and I wouldn't want to take it on the motorway haha.
Wait- you said THREE great rooftop views. I heard two. Did I miss something?
Now that I’m 50, a trip to Amsterdam has a different meaning than 25 years ago….😬
When I first went to Amsterdam the first time in July 2004, I couldn't find the red light district, I dunno how the F I didn't stumble upon 1 window.... I was there for 4 days getting wasted! .... When I went back on the ferry, I got talking to this Dutch guy and his girlfriend at the ship's disco, they asked if I went to the red light district and I told them 'i couldn't find it', wasn't looking for it, just never came across it, LOL
living doesn't have to be expensive, hostel beds can be as cheap as 10 euros per night if you're lucky. last time i was over i just walked up and down the entire city all week without spending any money except for food and weed
