  • Kevin and I grab the Dagger Katana 10.4's and head off for a day of kayaking adventure and exploration. Wanting to paddle something new, we opt to attempt a run on the Lower Rocky River in Chatham County. Being only a short drive from my house, I have long wanted to catch this run. The Dagger Katana 10.4 is a fantastic option in the crossover kayak market - my choice for a whitewater leaning crossover kayak. Come along as we explore a new river!

    Nice seeing it with the grass showing. For those wondering, wait about 12-18 hours after you see the siler city gage spike at the minimum 200 cfs. You’ll have that flow but the 15/501 pier is best to check to be sure. Anything over minus 12 inches or so is scrapable and it gets better higher. Higher, the slot disappears and it gets wavy after 15/501 and at the very last significant rapid. Super stoked you got a video of the whole section.

    Wow, loved the video Pete. Minimal music, actually got to listen to the river! Loved to see how you scouted unfamiliar rapids from the river and then descended them. Great video!

    Looks like a fun river to paddle. You can tell Kevin's skills are definitely improving and he has more confidence with boat control. Any time paddling with friends is well spent, and time to forget about the work week is a plus.

    Love learning more about the Dagger Katana. I have been researching crossovers and the Katana stands out. I am looking for a kayak that I can take camping on a river with class II /III sections. Something that can store camp gear and navigate whitewater, but track well on class I. Thank you for the review!

    • @The66Leadfoot
      @The66Leadfoot ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed! From the few videos showing us the whitewater crossovers, the Katana seems to be the better of the crossovers in the rapids. The Liquid Logic Remix XP10 seems to spoon up every little wave in its path. There's almost no footage of the Pyranha Fusion 2, and only a couple of videos of the Jackson Karma Traverse.

  • @wolfriveroutdoors
    @wolfriveroutdoors ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Have you paddled a Jackson Traverse, too? Curious on your opinion between the two boats. Awesome video!
    I can definitely see the utility of a crossover in the 🛶 quiver (lake paddles, exploratory runs, camping gear/storage, runs with flat water stretches, etc.).

    Another great video! I have a Kat in 9.7 and love it. Easy to throw in the bed of the truck and get out on the water and with the skeg, covering a few miles on flat is not too bad. My only gripe is the hatch cover. I was wondering how you all liked the hard cover mod I noticed at 47:11. Are they both JK or is Kevin’s a different brand?

    • @RiverKingsKayak

    So what do you mean cross over kayak? From a rec kayak to white water type? Would really like to see a review on the kayak. I have paddled a dagger and I like them. The place where I go kayaking you can't roll a kayak it's too shallow in most areas. Please do a video on this kayak Pete cheers!

    Is that a recreational kayak plus white water? Is it good for both??

    • @moeadeeb2862
      @moeadeeb2862 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have one if these in the 9.7 version. Great little all around boat. With the drop-down skeg up, it can handle current up to class III, or maybe more if you’re a really proficient whitewater paddler. It is a fine boat for beginners as it has great primary and secondary stability. With the skeg down it’s decent on flat water and it has rear dry storage for a shorter camping trip. With dry bags you could also load up the bow in front of the removable bulkhead, but it’s not that convenient to be pulling the bulkhead in and out to access your gear imo. Dagger’s contour ergo seating/outfitting is excellent, and I’ve covered 10+ miles on flat while seated for extended periods of time without real discomfort. If I’m going to be on flat covering longer distances, I’ll usually take my Stratos, but if I’m on current, or going to be on a mixture of types of water, I’ll take the Katana. The boat really is a jack of all trades but master of none.

      @@RiverKingsKayak thank you…I love your videos. I’m a novice but I do okay on flat water. I took a couple of kayaking classes. Again, I probably will stay with flat water since I am terrible at keeping kayak straight…I have two Hobie above seat kayaks. Maybe one day I’ll adventure to a level one or two. Thanks again
