The story continues through Fly High, You and I, What, Piri and Breaking Out. Fly High is the prequel to Chase Me and shows how the girls ended up as the spirits of nightmare you see beginning with Chase Me.
Each girl is a nightmare, so makes sense living or going between Dreams. Thank you, the nightmare series ARE AMAZING, they were so young 😭😭 omg baby Dami
Nice. Yep, the girls are nightmare demons. Watch Fly High to see why. It's a prequel to these two. The next three Korean MVs, You and I, What, and Piri, are a continuation although the story gets more and more abstract so you fill in the details for yourself. The Japanese release, Breaking Out, also fits into the end of the story line.
You're right about them being witches! Or rather, they're witches who were turned into nightmare spirits. The next song in the storyline is Fly High which is a prequel, where you'll find out exactly how they ended up becoming nightmares!
Watching their old MVs is always so interesting. They're so young and still incorporate a bit more of that cute factor even if it's, you know, cute with horror references and heavy guitars. I think You and I is when they really found their identity-they start going for a more mature look with their costumes instead of the "creepy schoolgirl" thing, their choreo gets a lot more powerful, and they start really figuring out how to highlight each member's vocals distinctively.
Yes! The Shining and Evil Dead vibes are strong with these mvs! I really hope you check out the dance practices for these as well because having their debut song be that fast and still killing that choreo is pure insanity!

So my understanding (and really the Nightmare series is up to interpretation) is that in Chase Me, the girls' are spirits who are haunting this building. An unassuming ghost hunter comes to investigate but becomes obsessed with them after they haunt him. They use that obsession to lure him into a secret room where he discovers a book (the Necronomicon lol). In Good Night, while messing with the book, he accidentally lets out JiU and she begins to release the others one by one. However, the book requires a prisoner and unfortunately, he is the only one available. So they switch places with him and they run off leaving the book lost in the forest forever.
Now, this changes once you watch Part 3 'Fly High', which is a prequel and you see how the girls end up stuck there. Part 4 'You and I' extends this story as a sequel to the whole Nightmare series. As for 'What' and 'Piri', these are supposed to be the end of the series (the mini-album is called 'The End of Nightmare' after all) however, in my opinion, they don't have as strong storyline connections to the earlier MVs. Lastly, the Dystopia series is its own story as they are combating the evils of the internet.
Again, all of this is up to interpretation and everyone sees the stories somewhat differently. I encourage you to do the same =) Keep the DC content coming!!
It was such a great debut for a group from a small company.
Happyface Entertainment changed their name to Dreamcatcher Company which is why you won't see that logo any more. Plus they just stopped putting it at the start.
It's mind blowing how this was their debut and for the first couple of years, they slipped under the radar from all the other big groups that debuted around the same time. Btw, the message of the lyrics behind the nightmare era, some say it points to the kpop industry and the stereotypes that comes with it. It also describes their journey as a group transitioning from Minx and branching out into who they are right now.
8:22 I don’t know, but the girls has never talked about this during Good Night’s promotions, so I assume it’s not. Maybe this is what the director was thinking of or taking inspiration but they didn’t talk about it. Who knows.

Please check out ASTRO! They have wonderful songs and choreography! Their song "ONE" just came out, but do check out "After Midnight", "All Night", "Baby", "Crazy Sexy Cool", "Knock" and "Blue Flame". Their concept is typically cute, fun, and happy. However, songs like "Blue Flame" and "Knock" are very different and are more bold, sensual, and slightly agressive. "After Midnight" and "All Night"are more like their usual concept except I'd say it's a more mature take on that. Anywho, hope you get to check them out!

Yes, it is a series...called 'The Nightmare Series'...
sadly the book doesn't play a part in later videos. You have to really concentrate on the lyrics in the first three videos. They tell the story of what they are and what they can do and how they got that way. don't skip the special clips and covers. The talent in this group can make you cry.

to best understand the nightmare series and dreamcatcher, you need to separate the lyrics from the video. the video tells a fictional story and the lyrics tells dreamcatcher's story. as you watch more of the nightmare series, you should be able to piece together the general plot the mvs are depicting.
many of dreamcatcher's lyrics are about never giving up on your dreams while not losing yourself in its pursuit, hence the second meaning in their name - to 'catch' your dreams. for dreamcatcher, it's simply to be successful singers since the group was reborn from a failed group that followed the typical kpop stereotypes for girl groups. chase me can thus be interpreted as dreamcatcher telling the industry they will mark their own path and force everyone else to take notice. following the same theme, good night can be interpreted as being trapped in the industry control and forcing everyone to fit in the same mold. so the real nightmare was being trapped within the industry's vice and not being able to succeed unless certain stereotypical criteria are met. there's a lot more to it, but if you read the lyrics with this in mind, it will make a lot of sense. it's really abstract and hard to catch from individual songs but you will notice a pattern when you go through their entire discography.
