That moment when they start accepting the intrusive affetcion, like tummy rubs and shnoot kisses, you know they've bonded with you! Also the shedding is no joke.
I have a shiba/lab mix. She's all haughty shiba when she thinks she is being observed. The instant she thinks she's in the clear she goes full throttle dopey lab.
And I thought our Shiba is "broken" as she barely wants to go outside and plays hide and seek when we want to go out. Only able to go out, when me and my partner we both get ready, shoes on - I guess she does not prefer to be left at home. On the other hand, once outside, she loves to be there. I guess some dogs are just weird, or she does not have a clear mind when we are going out and what does it mean for her.
I so totally recognized Taiko, my shiba inu, when you said aiko was chasing a squerel. It just happened to us yesterday. I take him in small nature area, where there is a lake, trees, bushes, and lots to smell. I slowly trained him the command ‘free’ in 3 specific places of the parc where he allways came back to me when i was starting to walk away. Yesterday he saw 2 rabbits running where i let him free. It was too late! He ran after the rabbits in the forest, and ran back to us but passed us like a jet and went running after another dog behind us that we had not seen. Took at least 30 minutes before getting him back on the leash, actually when he came to us, super tired of running. So you are 100% right not to thrust a shiba 100% but i want to keep on trying to train taiko to pay attention to me when he is free. I want to feel relaxed when he is free and it was never 100% the case before but almost as close as it could get. I want to make him Feel that we have a thrusting relationship while i am the leader. He messes up? Back on the leash for a week or two. Story to follow!
hahaha I know that feeling and totally relate. It is tough to know when is a good time and there is always a risk, even small. Did you notice that even if they escape...they kind of stay around? It happened to Aoki. He'd go crazy and run everywhere but he'd stay at eye's sight, i could almost hear him scream ''I am free'' lol
Thank you for your videos. It has helped me understand our shiba a lot. We have an 8 month old Shiba named Enzo. He’s adorable, intelligent but he bites us. We don’t know why he does that. Do you have any suggestions for us?
introduce chews to him but always supervise. In terms of play time, i found squeeky toys helped sooth his tendency to bite. that said, it is normal that they bite to explore their world!
Wonder if a Shiba would be good for hunting with a prey drive like that? I frequently hunt boar and deer and hunting with a dog is common here. They look like a finnish spitz but fluffier.
The Prey Drive is very real and I was shocked when my shiba pup chased down and killed a red squirrel in seconds. It never had a chance to outrun him 😮. Rabbits, squirrels and more, beware 😅.
I used to use the furminator but transitioned to a rubbery one similar to this one: www.amazon.ca/Kong-Groom-Rubber-Puppy-Brush/dp/B007B6VU50/ref=asc_df_B007B6VU50/?tag=googleshopc0c-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=292986868079&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13719325574500022709&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9061022&hvtargid=pla-319160434722&psc=1
My housemate has a Shiba. She is a beautiful dog with such a friendly disposition. She is also stubborn and argumentative.
haha the argumentative part :P yup i see that!

yes agreed! and shedding is out of hand haha!

Great video!!! (I just subbed)My hubby and I want to adopt a Shiba Inu…how did you find your breeder? Thank you so much.
Thanks for subbing! I literally called every breeder lol. Maybe I should do a video about it?
@@aokiandanais Yesssss!! Please do that!! It’s so hard to know and find which Breeder to trust. 🥰

shiba inus were bred for hunting in Japan ;)
Do they make good guard dogs?

SAME! Aoki tried to get a rabbit and went under the fence in the parc near our home...thankfully I was close enough to step on the long leash
May I ask how much your Shiba weighs?
aoki is now about 27lbs :)
I just got one the first time shiba
so exciting! Enjoy every minute :) I hope our videos help you!
I like how you say Shiba

Hi, what brush do you use for shedding?
