    I love Haiti and my Haitian Godmother, Godfather and Godsister. I miss the food, griot, rice and beans, dumbway, Haitian vanilla, coffee and rum. I miss the party’s, the music, the food and desserts. Thank you Mama Ariece, Thank you Papa and Thank you Jorie. 😘😘😘😘

    After the mom saw him at the beginning put the spoon in his mouth, the second time she made sure that he tasted it in his hand.. 😆😂🤣

      That’s bc Haitians taste test in the palms of their hands but chefs taste on a spoon but use a new spoon everytime

      We’re losing a lot of the manners that once were taught to us by our elders. It makes me sad... some aspects of our history are worth keeping.

    • @kingjokerful

      What does a hat have to do with anything? It’s a hat...

    • @jgehman
      @jgehman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not sure I agree. In the US, we've been a hatless culture since the 1960's....that's half a century. (They say that JFK killed the men's hat because he didn't like wearing one.) There is no real connection between wearing hats then and wearing hats now, and I'm not sure that manners for a new revival of an old practice should necessarily be the same. If nobody has been taught that it is polite to remove a hat when entering someone's house, then it is perfectly value-neutral. I know where I am (Texas), it's quite common to see men's hats worn in restaurants. I take off my motorcycle helmet and put on my hat and don't remove it until I'm ready to put the helmet back on.

      Oh yeah that when Dessalines was smashing the French’s heads an enjoyable smile 😊

    • @curtisthomas2670
      @curtisthomas2670 ปีที่แล้ว

      The French gave emancipation to slaves in Haiti then pulled it back, plus slavery in Haiti was probably the most brutal of all plantation colonies in the Americas as the French believed it to be more profitable to work slaves to death and replace them with fresh slaves from Africa, resulting in an average life expectancy of 5 years for a new arrival. Add to that the mutilations, burning alive, being set upon by dogs and drownings etc. Can't blame Dessalines for what he did

    • @lozry
      @lozry 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, he was adopted by a Swedish family at the age of 3. So he was brought up as a Swede, that is why i get confused when he called himself Ethiopian in this episode.

    • @Sakja
      @Sakja 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    • @lozry
      @lozry 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All i'm saying is that he used to call himself Swedish and talk allot about his upbringing and that his passion for cooking came from his Swedish adoptive grandmother. Long time ago i heard him mention anything about Sweden. Not sure what happened but its kinda strange to do a 180 like that.

    I know he seems like a nice guy but this dude has the biggest identity complex/contrived identity of any celebrity chef. We get it Marcus, you were born in Africa, raised by the slave master race and have an expensive (and contrived) soul food restaurant in Harlem...yet you will never respond to admit to failure or bad reviews....Please stop with the hats and clothes at least.

      Agatha z Sounds like you approve of gentrification and people from outside your neighborhood coming in and trying to improve things by being condescending and out of touch. That is, if you want to go the route of ad hominem attacks.
