  • Historical Roads: Phantom Canyon From Canon City to Victor
Drive with us on our trip up the old Florence & Cripple Creek Narrow Gauge Railroad Route from Canon City to Cripple Creek. This beautiful and historic route is home to old bridges, tunnels and tons of changing scenery. Climb the 3000' rise in altitude with us and see where former gold mining camps, farms and even a school used to exist. Listen to the wonderful narration and interviews provided by the Phantom Canyon Driving Tour cd we purchased at the Victor Mining Museum on one of our first trips up there a few years ago. We love this drive. It looks different at any given time of day on any given day of the year. Although we didn't see much for wildlife on this trip, Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep are often observed along with fox, coyote, all sorts of birds and lizards. This is also prime Mountain Lion and Bear territory... so be on the lookout if you ever get the opportunity to drive this for yourself.

I have driven this a few times and you have brought it to life. It's wonderful to hear of the actual lives and goings-on of days past. Thank you for this retelling along the drive!

My Dad took this road in the early 1960s on our vacation. One lane. White knuckle.

Thanks for this, I love the historical information. Since Phantom Canyon is a multiuse road (foot traffic is permissible), I've run on it before. But this time I was relegated to the treadmill, so watching your video made my run much more fun, as I could picture the scenery and imagine I was there instead! Keep up the fun travels and nice videos.

The phantom canyon ride is great , drive slowly around the blind curves though, it's narrow and the surface is loose so braking and control can be sketchy ! Its best done going downhill from Victor down to Florence. Enjoy the ride ! 😊

They need to film a movie in Victor. Been there and it’s a cool old mostly empty town.

That's fantastic, Thank you for taking us on your treadmill run! We love this area, the history around each corner is so fascinating, we couldn't help but put this video together. We will keep recording our adventures. If you have any suggestions for other places to visit, feel free to share!

Good road! Traveled over it in the mid 80s with my Mom and Dad in Dad‘s pick up. Got some good pictures of old mining structures. Had lunch in Cripple Creek. Want to go through there again on our motorcycles. This is on my motorcycle bucket list.

Yeah, no problem, except in the winter season , it gets icey . I had to go retrieve some friends who got stuck on an iced over stretch of the road a few miles outta Cripple Creek last year . 😊
