WOW!!! Me and my parents really enjoyed watching every second of this drive! Russ...You should win an award for this one! AMAZING area. AMAZING video to say the least!🏆👍👍🏞️
Drove this in ‘78. Still remember that view of Silverton from above.
You should always have your gold pan with you my friend. I think mine is in my rv. Never know when your gonna strike it rich! ❤
Thank you so much for the gorgeous views. If you continue on 50 highway east through Kansas you will pass right by my house in Hutchinson Kansas when you cross 61 highway N and 50 highway E.
September 15 following is when the aspen groves turn golden. Awesome place. Road out of Cortez over Lizard Pass to Tellurid and down across to Ouray is some ride too. You would love. Ought to see Black Canyon near Montrose toward the east at Gunnison is something to see, also. 😊
Highway 550 is my all time fav. I go to silverton from Texas once a year. I Love driving the alpine loop backroads. Awesome!
We drove from Durango to Ouray, right before winter, a few years ago. There were a few rock slides. We were towing our Airstream. It was white knuckle. When we got down to the gas station in Ouray, my husband got out, patted the ground & said “never again”. 🙂
That rear facing camera was a great addition to the channel 🎉
Glad you think so!
The church and drive into Silverton is my favorite. Thanks for sharing
The San Juan mountain range is spiritual
It TRULY IS ONE IN A MILLION....GLAD U VENTURED IT, RUSS!☺️
I Take the Million Dollar Highway once a Year... actually just did it today!! 7/30/2023
Thank you for newest video on Silverton drive.... I know it must have been a hard but gorgeous drive.....so do appreciate what you do for viewers.... I'm 75 and 90 % homebound....your videos make my days..... Thank you so very much.... May God keep you safe on the roads ahead....Denise
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you so much Russ for your excellent videoes! Not only front, but now back views, as well as, drone! The added bonus is feeling like we are physically riding shotgun with you on all these adventures! Congrats on creating the best videoes on TH-cam in my opinion. Keep on rolling…. 🎉
I'd luv some 55 degree weather right now!
My wife and I made that trip last summer. Couldn’t of imagined having to pull the trailer as well because that Hwy is sketchy with drop offs and lack of guardrails.
Wow! Beautiful, but terrifying! With my fear of heights and the drop offs right at the roadway, my heart was in my throat. No way would I want to take that highway!
You outdid yourself with this one, spectacular! A lot of people are afraid to drive the 550, but it's one of our favorites. Nothing more beautiful!
Thanks! 👍
@27:39 did you notice the Elk on top of the red trimmed building? Cool!
One of your best yet Russ
Great video Russ! Ouray is one of my favorites. And the San Juan’s, oh my!!!
Thank you for all that you do for your viewers.... You must love what you do!
thank you russ for all the work you do i can not travel no more so you fill a void in my life
Such beautiful aera thanks Russ
Did this very same trip a couple years ago. I missed the guard rails so my daughter enjoyed the scenery as I was watching the road. We pulled off at the same spot.
Very cool!
I travel this road every summer love it.
The mountains are so beautiful. Love your traveling adventures.
Glad you like them!
Russ you really got some Kodac moment shots! ❤ beautiful drive
Awesome. I fell in love with this area so much that I built my vacation home outside Durango. Never run out of things to do. Best kept secret in the USA.
So well done, love it! Seven years ago I visited Silverton, Telluride, and Ouray. It was the first time seeing mountains in real life (50 years old). The Storyteller Indian store specializes in Navajo and Zuni sterling silver jewelry. Absolutely beautiful store and owners! Lots of wonderful stores. Surprised you did not go through the original jail museum site in Silverton. In Ouray (you - ray), there is a wonderful little hole in the wall cafe, Maggie's Kitchen, that makes awesome burgers and salads. So many wonderful jeep trails going up through the mountains. Engineer pass was breathtaking. If you have time, stop and see Animas Fork a preserved mining ghost town. Definitely one of the most beautiful places in the U.S.! Thank you for a wonderful video, it was good seeing it again!
Man oh man! That stuff @ about 1:03 had me pouring with sweat just watching from home. You and all the other drivers who can make that stretch are legends in my book. Wow!
It’s a great drive, I have been on 550 a couple of times going to Montrose on a hunting trip.
I did this drive back in the fall of 2020. Very nice drive. Glad you got to experience it.
This is an amazing, beautiful video. I am one of those people with a debilitating fear of heights. I could never drive that road without suffering a panic attack, and having to call a tow truck to get me back. Thanks to your video, I finally get to experience the ride. Thank you so much for posting this.
Love your rear camera view Beautiful colors blues, greens, etc.
I’m right there with ya. I’m pouring with sweat in my living room now watching those straight drops. I’d have passed out riding shotgun with him. I’ve been where he’s headed next to Gunnison. It’s very nice, but thankfully I was never on a road like this one. Definitely something your brain has to get used to. Oh boy!
Russ really enjoyed watching you enjoy this drive. If you ever get a chance go to Black canyon. Its the grand canyon of colorado
What a beautiful ride! Thank you for sharing this drive with us!! ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
That guy in the truck was probably saying “There goes that same RVer Tv guy again”

Pretty area of Colorado as you were driving you showed some views looking towards the passenger side would have loved to see more of the left and right side looking at the mountains thanks for taking us on the tour
Excellent quality video. Thanks for that!!!
I ride a motorcycle and took it up there a couple years ago and it is the most beautiful road I've ever been on

I remember driving US550 from Durango to Silverton in a 1980 Mazda B2000 pickup. 5 speed manual and I was barely able to grind up those passes in 2nd gear doing about 20 mph. Thank you very much for bringing up some fond memories.
Good road to crank up that song GTO from the 1960’s. 🎉
Looking at the charging situation along your route I will have no issues making the same trip. l can't wait!! Thanks for the great videos.
Have you been through Central Oregon and on the way to John Day it is very similar but this is bigger mountains and a lot more of it.. Awe inspiring from a Generous Creator.
Not yet!
Thank you thank you thank you!
Boy, you earned a nice dinner this time !!
Great drive, great descriptions. Just a word from a local, though - Ouray is pronounced youRay, and Telluride is Tell You Tide.
Love the video. Ouray is true grit and ridgeway was also. Loved Silverton. Sone of those mountains you can see ski slopes. You are the best.
This really is a million dollar road with spectacular views. Your footage is really great esp the drone footage, and the back camera it was a nice edition. Thank you for sharing the journey. Safe travels.
I’ve been up that road a few times and it never gets old. Love it!
Great ride, just glad you were driving, otherwise I'd have never seen such a wonderful place, love to fly, but can't handle high places :0)
Love the rear camera view, the driving view is great, what a road trip

Rver TV the music you played comes on at the perfect time
A little bit of a white knuckle drive, but well worth it. Love the views from the rear view camera. Thanks Russ!
Awesome video Russ my son and I did this trip a few years ago on Harley’s. This was a great revisit
I really like the rear camera views. I bet it smelled like a Christmas tree farm up there. The section after silverton was incredible even on camera. Around every other corner, another kodak moment. They all looked like one of those old ads for beer, lol. You've added yet another bucket list destination for many folks I'm sure. Cheers again and thanks! 👍
Russ, absolutely amazing drive and video. This country is so blessed with spectacular beauty.
It really is!
Hi russ thanks for the tour amazing part of the country loved all of it . Cheers mate🇦🇺

Good job on this one!⛰
Great 👍 mountain view with big trees 😊
Thank you. Russ. Awesome video. Gorgeous scenery. Never. Been up here!!¡. Safe travels 🥾🥾
Thanks 👍
Was through their several years ago, truly one of GODS creation. B safe n thanks!
Hey Russ, hope you're doing well on your way to Sturgis. I've driven the Million Dollar Highway several times, thanks for bringing back the memories. Ouray Brewery makes a fine IPA and the short hike at Box Canyon Falls is really cool. Safe travels and happy trails!
Did that drive last October. My most watched video!! It’s was quite a bit colder, and more snow on the mountains. The road wasn’t too bad.
Ouray is one of my favorite Colorado towns.
So enjoyable....thanks
Beautiful, stupendous trip. Colors and textures. Gorgeous sky and water features. Thank you. Take care.👍👍
Many thanks!
Oh I love the back camera!! Thanks for sharing!!
Russ, love the rear camera...
In Silverton you parked right next to one of the best museums I have ever been in. Highly recommended next time you are in that area.
Next time!
It is a great museum
One thing I don't like about driving in the hills abd mountains of Colorado - way too many stretches of highway sans guard rails
There must be awards for videos like this. Notify TH-cam.
AWESOME RIDE, MADE MY DAY GREAT. BE SAFE😇
Thanks, you too!
Spectacular! Isn't it refreshing to need a jacket?!
Wow Russ, one of the best drives you have taken us on. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍👍
Russ, drop by Telluride, since you’re the area. You’ll love it!
What a beautiful episode Russ Tnx for that, greeting from the Netherlands.
Thank you Russ. 550 is one of the few roads I have not been on in Colorado. I appreciate all you do. God Bless!!
Most guests are surprised that there are no guardrails on much of this highway to Ouray. Having no guardrails allows the road to be plowed in the winter because the snow can be pushed off the edge. The Million Dollar Highway was an old toll road built in the 1880's by Otto Mears. Those tunnels are snow sheds for vehicles to be protected from avalanches and heavy snows.
I'm so glad you finally got to take this drive. I've done it a few times myself. It's really interesting to drive it on a rainy day. Ouray is a fun little town. My friends and I would stop for lunch at the Ouray Brewery. We'd get a table up on the upper deck and enjoy a bird's eye view of Main Street while we enjoyed their delicious burgers. I've taken many photos of the town, and have shot some nice video footage there as well, until the day my camera battery died on me for good. Oh well. I suppose it gives me a good excuse to to back there again someday.
HOLY COW Russ!
The most beautiful scenery I have ever seen on your channel! And that's saying a lot!
Just spectacular! Thank You so much for letting us ride shotgun with you!
Safe travels Man!
Best RVr TV production I have ever seen. This little jaunt up over the Million Dollar Hwy. was full of amazing views. That rearview camera paid for itself with just this one video Russ!! Thank you!! Yeah, I'll bet you were a bit tuckered out after driving that road!
What a scenic drive. Brings back so many memories of visiting Ouray in the 80's and 90's when I would visit a friend in Dolores, CO. We would drive up and stay in the Wiesbaden Hot Springs Hotel which had a vapor cave and a secluded soaking pool! They built the Hotel at the Mountain and enclosed the room to capture the hot water coming out of the spring with steam. A haunting experience. If you visit during the fall, the ride to the Dallas Divide is gorgeous. The camera on the back of the Van is a wonderful addition especially coming out of the tunnel! The locals of Ouray pronounce it: Yuray.
Best travel videos on TH-cam!! So clear and fun!
Beautiful clouds.
Great trip keep it coming beautiful places.
Great trip!!!
What a beautiful ride Russ. Breathtaking Mtn scenery, just fantastic. Thanks for sharing another cool drive.
Thanks for the ride.
Thank you for sharing,Russ ! Awesome country we have. Great job on video 👍👍🙏♥️
Thanks Russ for the ride. Glad you got to see the Million Dollar Highway. I stopped driving down there a while back. It got to be scary. I'm from AZ and it was a bit much for me. Anyway, you had beautiful weather all the way. I stopped at the Red Mountain pass area where the mine is a few times and got great pictures of it. I'm in awe every time I drive through the San Juans. My favorite drive to AZ. I take 145 to Cortez now. Still very beautiful but not quite as high. I'm in the Montrose area and I hope you can stop at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. It's sort of like the Grand Canyon but narrower and north and south rims are closer together. You will be impressed with it for sure. The Gunnison River runs way below the rims. There are a lot of view points too. My favorite is Sunset View and High Point. I can see it from my balcony. Thanks again.
Thank you so much, enjoyed the video, beautiful place😊
Glad you enjoyed it
THANKS!
You're welcome!
I love, love, love this video !!! Such beautiful scenery !!! Thank you for sharing.
