- This time I want to talk about not using references for drawing a face while I show you my process and share my thoughts with you. Drawing without reference can be refreshing from time to time, it really emphazises what you learned so far and can show you where your skills need improvement.
I did my best with this pencil portrait, let me know what you think about this topic!

Beautiful!
Thank you, glad you like it! ❤️
I find it scary to draw without a reference so it's really impressive to see you draw such a nice portrait all from imagination and I feel inspired to try myself! 😊
By the way, your art style is so pretty 💌 and I love the relaxed vibe of your videos. Keep up the good work Selina! 👏
Thank you so much!! 😊 nice to hear some feedback! It is indeed very scary to draw without reference and I often fail because the "trash" in my head needs to be squeezed out first before anything useful comes out of it haha! I do prefer to use a reference but I hope one day I can find a middle way.
It’s so satisfying when you smooth out the shades with that fancy brush of yours. 😌💕
I do both - draw from imagination as well as reference or even mix it. It really depends 🤔 Anyway, I agree with the things you’ve said! 🫶
Glad you like the shading 😁 I use some make up brush 😆 it's my favorite shading tool actually. Mixing references with imagination is probably the best combo! I'm not confident enough yet.
@@SelinaJelovic Oooh, I thought your mermaid was from imagination!! Doesn’t really matter in the end though, as long as you’re satisfied with your art piece. 🥰
@@anavien_draws hell no 😅 I can't come up with realistic light scenarios and hands like this from imagination haha! Drawing without reference is very rare for me. Like in this video here.
@@SelinaJelovic Perhaps it’s for the best, because what I do to the world without reference could be considered criminal. 😂😂😂😂
