    My fiancé loves her ring
    I was thinking of dropping 4-5k on her engagement ring, but then decided on getting her a $2000 ring and i took her on her dream vacation to japan
    I proposed to her at the team lab borderless art museum in Tokyo
    Fellas don’t feel obligated to drop Big money on a ring. Instead buy a nice ring in a comfortable price range, and take a bomb ass vacation with the money you’ll be saving

    I was cringing a little when I saw this episode but watched anyway. I'm a goldsmith and most people who do videos about jewelry just like to bash jewelers, the cost and the "diamond industry" This video was actually neutral and positive. I loved your choice in jewelers.
    As a jeweler I love creating pieces that remind people of celebrations and love. I'm currently carving a custom ring remaking a departed sisters ring into a new piece that my guest can wear everyday to remember her sister. I love being able to help people heal, and to restore grandma's ring so grandson can propose. Well made jewelry can last generations with basic care. Diamonds, rubies and sapphires can hold up to daily wear (and repair!) Unlike most colored stones-which is why you see it so often in antique jewelry that's still around. Other softer stones wear down and break.
    This ring I'm working on has already taken hours to design, and now hours to carve the wax, cast, clean up and set the stones. I expect to spend 10-15 hours making this one ring. How is it that jewelry is too expensive when skilled Craftsman take days to create a piece to last generations? 🤷
    It was nice to watch a video where fine jewelers if several different kinds are celebrated. Thank you!

      My engagement ring and our wedding rings are from a small independent jeweller, where they put an incredible amount of care into them and made them from recycled gold. They also didn't look at us funny when we said we didn't want a diamond centre stone, or any new diamonds, in fact. Instead, we had an amazing experience working with them and happily paid for their craftsmanship. IIRC, we paid no more for ours, than if we'd bought equivalent rings from a retailer, but the personal touch added a lot of value for us.

      The average American does NOT spend that much. Rather, that's the average spent on engagement rings in America. It factors in the price of engagement rings purchased by celebrities and other assorted very rich people. Their engagement rings can easily cost six and seven figures. The actual average American making an average salary really spends less than $2,000 on something like this.

      My engagement ring was 1000$ 1/4 ct. and bought with summer job money. Husband was also in University so money was scarce. That was 25 years ago. We got our wedding bands from Sears for 60$. We got married in a campsite with my parents and two witnesses and the justice of the peace. (And our dog,Jake!) I know our anniversary is in June but I can never remember if it’s 10 or 12! 😂 I wore leggings and a sweatshirt husband had jeans and fleece on. Oh! Our wedding cake was a O’henry cake from the grocery store. I think in total not including rings my wedding cost 200$ max 😂 Still together🤷‍♀️ Marriage is hard. Just being honest.

The thing is very rarely do antique jewelers have a full set so I feel like you still need to have a good custom jeweler on deck to get a band that will compliment a vintage ring (if you're a person who wears a band with your ring). Nguyen Hong Anh especially made from recycled materials and the metal generally looked thin, which is not ideal for a ring that you’ll be wearing everyday for the rest of your life

      They're targeting the generation of people who are "woke." You're much better off just spending your money at the antique place... has way more character and the value wont plummet like the tiny ring.

      I'm sorry, but you're not going to get any quality gold ring for $100 - even without stones. Gold is hovering right now at $1300 an ounce. Unless you get gold plated (not advised) or sterling, $100 is not a reasonable expectation.

    That cheap ring is not worth the money. I treated myself to a diamond baguette eternity band from Noemie for my birthday. $840 for a lot more diamond. Much more stylish, too.

    • @ktkt916
      @ktkt916 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was obviously not just about the diamond size. It was about the work the designer put into sawing, soldering, and polishing etc every little detail and the time and money that goes into the way she ethically sources every single element of the piece. You’re paying for her work and expertise, not the diamond size.

    I would've been interesting to make the inexpensive option a CZ or moissanite ring instead! Both are alternatives to diamonds that look pretty similar and can save you a ton. Also because ring under $1,000 would've been better for the "cheap ring" since there are a lot of people who would really struggle to budget for a four-figure ring. Still a very interesting video!
