40:38 Matt's Elish Norn still has -5/-5 from Drews earlier Phyresis Outbreak, so it would have died to the sentinel, not blocked it and killed it. It was a long turn so its pretty common for people to forget lingering turn effects like that.
Hell yeah on the Myst Teleport Soundfx. I was distracted and that sound came on and woke me out of what felt like a 20 year nap lol. I know whoever decided to put that in is going to be looking to see if anyone got that reference...well I appreciated it
I think all will be one was magics like magnum opus. The set they genuinely put the most effort into. Also the story they put the most into. Phyrexians are truly on top I must say.
38:50 the basillica shephard wouldnt have created the mites because of matt’s elesh norn. And if matt’s elelsh wasn’t there, there would be 4 mites because elesh norn comes in at the same time as basillica shephard
When I see this set picked I had 2 thoughts: 1. Whoa awesome this is going to be awesome! 🥳🎉 2. With the amount of poison and toxic this will be one of the quickest box brawls ever 😂
Drew could have ended the game earlier by using Kaito's ability to target the venrated rotpriest, causing it's ability to trigger and adding more poison counters to the other players.
ngl i love that they have someone in the back that probably doesnt play magic because the oil-raised foils could only be pulled from the compleat edition bundles lol. just a small thing that i noticed. loved the video overall
I remember doing a card opening few months back with a different box. 1 pack gave me Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines #1] and the following pack gave Elesh Norn, mother of machines #415. Spent $40 and got $83-$85 between 2 cards
I kinda like the idea that the last box battle they all will sub in actual professionals and that is how they determine the "best magic player of all time"
I also started playing MtG recently because i fell in love w the Phyrexians lol I bought a precon and 2 regular packs to get free shipping and got an Atraxa, Grand Unifier Showcase :D
absolutely love this set. great rare lands, dope arts, and an all around great cast of cards. this was the first pre release i went to and i was the only person there who didnt make a poison deck and it was the most aids ive ever experienced in magic
Super inconsequential but Drew overlooked Kaito's +1, it is SO good. Can't block or attack until your next turn. There was almost zero way, on board, he could lose when he board wiped.
Razorverge Thicket enters the battlefield tapped unless you control two or fewer other lands. 1 (As it enters) is 2 or fewer. Charlie played the same land, right after him.
Matt, after performing game actions in a completely linear fashion with no complicated "actually, before that happens, I'll do this" stack interactions: "I hate the stack"
like, basically, as a rule of thumb, if you want to just do everything in an entirely linear order, you can. It only gets complicated when you want it to, or when your opponents want to do something in response.
So I was curious and looked up poison counter rules, I just kept seeing that poison counters stay even if the player that inflicted them dies. Did they misplay or are the rules I found incorrect?
Oh Magic, this game I love and hate at the same time. Many things get missed but sometimes dont matter in the end. Matt's Elesh Norn should have been dead on the Phyresis Outbreack turn and Drew should have one more creature alive.
Am I the only one who thinks it makes no sense for toxic counters to have the kill numer set at 10 in commander?? It makes perfect sense for it to be 20. So many cards/decks are unplayable just because of this stupid rule... (unplayable because it's to toxic to play against) (pun intended)
It's just not balanced for commander. It's super powerful here where everyone has toxic, but imagine being the only toxic player and trying to stack up 60 poison counters for a win. The argument I hear is that you can easily take out one person but you're the archvillain right off the bat. Sucks to be the guy who gets poisoned and sucks to be the villain just for playing a certain playstyle.
@@Leto_0 It rly isn't hard to get everyone. There are literally cards that are just wincons cuz they turn all ur creature dmg to infect until end of turn. And most infect decks need to be agro so it doesn't matter if u are the arch enemy cuz if you manage to take 2 people out fast the 1v1 is ez. Let's not forget that the decks they made here are brewed on the spot with the cards that find. They are way below average in power level. A good toxic deck takes someone out in the first 3-4 turns cuz of the stupid 10 dmg rule. After that is a 1v2 and if there is no board wipe is gg. And that is if the deck is blatantly obvious. Like I said before, most effective thing to do is to pretend ur just attacking for 10 dmg and then give infect with a spell u delete them.
another more afforable way to do this is split a play booster between 2 people. 4 people for 50-70 dollars each could make a deck for the night and add 18 boosters from the set to their collection. Collector boxes obviously will have a ton more powerlevel because of the 4-5 rare/mythics a pack, but you are talking almost 1k split between 4 ppl vs $200-300.
When two elesh norn are on the field, they have what are called multiple replacement effects and multiple layer effects. Replacement effects usually start with "if" and have "instead" somewhere in the effect. A layer effect is a static change that isn't a replacement effects or triggered ability. When Charlie plays his elesh norn, his elesh norn has the newest timestamp so that is the layer currently affecting his opponents. BUT Charlie is still affected by Matt's elesh norn because Charlie's elesh norn's doubling effect is a replacement effect, not a layer effect. Furthermore, if two replacement effects would conflict outside this example, the affected player decides which one they want to use.
I'm assuming you meant elesh norn. If Charlie has an etb, Matt's elesh norn will cancel it, if Matt has an etb, Charlie's elesh norn will cancel. Since these are layer effects, there is no triggered ability going on the stack for elesh norn to replace with two of the same effect. Hypothetically, if her ability instead read "if a permeant entering the battlefield causes the ability of a permanent of an opponent to trigger, instead it does not trigger" then in that hypothetical Matt and Charlie would get to chose which replacement effects they want to use since they would then have two conflicting replacement effects affecting permanents they control.
Is anybody else bothered by the fact that Drew played an illegal commander?
